Mike Evans Says Randy Moss Is Quicker Than Him

September 19th, 2015

mike evans 1229Mike Evans shared more insight into his offseason training sessions with Randy Moss, and the Bucs’ young star admitted that Moss often has more juice off the line of scrimmage than he does.

On Thursday, Evans kicked off his new radio show on the Buccaneers Radio Network chatting about training with Moss in Charlotte with Terrelle Pryor, Leon Washington and Josh Gordon.

Evans said Moss ran them through multiple series of “metabolics.” Moss demanded the guys run five routes in a row at full speed. Moss calls out the route to the receiver and he throws the pass. Upon catching the ball, the receiver then hears another route barked by Moss and runs it from the spot of the initial catch.

Co-host Ronnie Lane asked Evans if he thought Moss could still play at the NFL level.

“If he really wanted to [return to the NFL], I don’t know if he does or not, if he really gave it a crack, I think it would be pretty good,” Evans said of Moss. “He still has that explosion. He was beating me in 10 yard starts, you know. Yeah, and Terrelle Pryor, and Josh Gordon, Leon Washington, he’s beatin’ us. We’ll win some, too. But he’s winning.”

Joe found all of this pretty darn cool. Moss, 38, leads fitness boot camps in Charlotte regularly. Joe’s not suggesting the Bucs bring in Moss, who has hinted at a comeback, but it’s fun to think about.

The way this team is playing in mind as well invite Randy Moss and Herschel Walker in for tryouts heck while you’re at it call John Randle too!

  2. WyomingBucsFan Says:

I said we should have signed Moss 2 weeks ago, problem is Randy and a lot of players Joe said the Bucs should sign wouldn’t even consider signing with this garbage team! We really suck, Go Bucs!

    OMG😮just wait on it.

Let me lay the facts on you Guys! The fans ran Gruden off because they are stupid. The Glazers know they made a mistake. The Glazers have probably tried to rehire Grude twice by now. He still lives here because he is a Tampa guy. Gruden will be the coach agin next year when the Glazers make him the highest paid coach in the NFL. Fans need to realize your getting what you deserve for the Gruden debacle! Go Bucs!

  5. Pete Mitchell Says:

On the real… Image this team running a four wide set with V-jax, ME, Moss, and Murphy! Dang! Can’t be any worse than losing 42-14 at home to a rookie quarterback.

  6. Buccfan37 Says:

Moss being able to outrun Evans is no biggie. Mini moss on the commercial could do that.

  7. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Sorry to hack people off but I do not get all the Gruden worship. Let’s get real and stop with the revisionist history.

Yes he won the SB and so we’ll forever be justifiably grateful to him for that.
But he had worn out his welcome here for actual reasons.

    Start with his record…
    12-4 and the SB…awesome
7-9 after a SB not so awesome
    5-11 Just pathetic
11-5 a record to validate the SB win! A loss to Lovie Smith coached Bears!
4-12 This is a great coach?
    9-7
9-7 after a 9-3 start losing the final four games! That was his undoing. We seemed to be treading water because Chucky was NOT a great talent evaluator and brought in far too many over the hill worn out retreads. People simply grew impatient and a poor record after the SB.

If you take away that first season where he inherited the talent…whether you wish to give credit to Dungy, McKay or Sam Wyche who brought in Sapp, Brooks and Lynch, Chucky was an abysmal 45-51 a LOSING record even with that 11-5 year sandwiched in.

I like Chucky. I’m grateful for the SB. But his players had tuned him out and he simply had worn out his welcome. A fresh start somewhere probably would have been good for him. But now he has a cake job and so why would he leave it? For damn sure not to return to the Bucs!!!!!!

  8. Espo Says:

Can Moss play safety? Mike? Guard?

  9. White Tiger Says:

Mike Evans thinks Randy Moss is quicker than he is?

If by “quicker” he means FASTASFREAKINGLIGHTENING…then, yeah. I guess?

Mike Evans dominates smurfs – Randy Moss could dominate men. Mike’s wearing thin on me right now. He should probably go soak his hammy and do his talking with his play…on the field.

    @StPeteBucsFan

I’m right there with you on Gruden and to add on to what you already said he faced Aaron Brooks and Jake Delhomme most of his years in Tampa not Drew Brees, Cam Newton or Matt Ryan. Vick was good but the defense seemed to have his number.

  11. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

I would bring him in n a heartbeat. Mainly to teach all these kids he have at WR. Also, Moss in the slot on maybe 15 plays a game would be a scary combo w VJax n Evans w ASJ at TE. That would be uncoverable. I realize this will never happen but one can dream. #3 would still have to be able to get them the ball tho…

  12. Buc_Down_Under Says:

    StPeteBucsFan nailed it.

Outside of 2002 we had 1 3/4 good seasons, terrible drafting, an even worse roster of re-treads and mostly unworthy QBs, players who tuned out the coach, schemes that were more concerned with pre-snap ‘dynamics’ than yards gained, and someone who drive out and bombed at replacing Sapp, Lynch and Rice. Hashtag legend.

If you think about it, since 2008 we’ve kind of had exactly the same thing, except less popular named coaches and (mostly) better drafting. 2010 and 2012 being the 1 3/4 allusion.

  13. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

It was nice to see Sam Wyche get some credit, since it was he who drafted nearly all our past stars, of recent glory years.

  14. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Gruden was the best damn coach we had period.

Let me say it again to be very clear…

Gruden was the best damn coach we had period

As for as the mutiny of a few hand full of players. I can bet you Joel, or whoever read those emails, and interviewed those players. Wish to this very day, that he would’ve just released them.

The reality is that when you have a hard nosed coach, you always have to churn the roster. That’s not just limited to the players, but the personnel guys too. Because of course – your spill becomes old, tired, and redundant.

At this point if the Glazers handed Gruden a blank check. Many of us would be all for it.

  15. WyomingBucsFan Says:

Well said Lovmybucs! Most of these fans just don’t understand how good Gruden is as a tactician and motivator. Oh well, hopefully the Glazers fix it next year by making Gruden the highest paid coach in the league.

  16. Roland Says:

Gruden showed how smart he was by trying to take a guy that couldn’t teach DBs and trying to let him replace Monte.
Gruden’s biggest mistake was thinking Raheem was worthy of those shoes. Period. Never forget that’s who Gruden wanted.
Keep him on Monday Night Football where he is great.

  17. Roland Says:

As for Mike Evans, we as Bucs fans know form the last pathetic GM, that 6′ 4″ WRs can’t get open in short routes and therefore stink on third downs. We got better on third downs last year when VJax went down.
Look at the size of the Pats WRs. Teams that move the chains most often do not have big WRs.
The Bucs have not drafted/signed players that make us better on third down for a long time… We have stunk for a long time.
    Go Figure.
