Jameis: Praise The O-Line

Jameis believes the offensive line has been unfairly mocked.

Jameis believes the offensive line has been unfairly mocked.

Yes, Bucs fans and Joe have had harsh words for the offensive line.

While fans have raged over the line dating back to the halcyon days of former Bucs commander Greg Schiano, Joe has tempered his thoughts this year because the Bucs are breaking in rookies up front.

The screams about the line have been so vocal even America’s Quarterback, Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston, has raced to its defense, specifically after the impressive game at Houston. The line kept Jameis’ jersey clean, not allowing a sack from the likes of J.J. Watt, Jadeveon Clowney and/or Vince Wilfork.

“Man, you know the way they get criticized, it is all the time,” Jameis told fluorescent Casey Phillips of Buccaneers.com. “They are always getting blamed for something. And for the to bounce back against one of the best defensive lines in the league is amazing.”

It was an amazing performance and may lead to changes down the road. Joe is not a big believer in fixing what is not broken. If you keep Jameis upright against that defensive line without Evan Smith and with Joe Hawley, then well, Joe is wondering if that is a coincidence or not.

“Protection was outstanding,” Bucs offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter said in his weekly presser.

While the Bucs are pining for the return of Demar Dotson, can you envision Dotson pancaking Watt like Godser Cherilus did?

At worst, it seems the offensive line is beginning to turn the corner. Or perhaps has turned the corner.

Yes, offensive line was awesome, just look at all the running yards the Bucs piled up against Texans!!

    Amazing??????

    ….that’s kinda stretching it

  3. Bucsfaninchina Says:

The Goz! Big props for the line that held up to protect the Bucs most important asset. If only we had a coaching staff that didn’t run the ball right at Vince Wilfork every chance it got.

  4. DallasBuc Says:

Pass protection was unexpectedly solid with the help of Koetter gameplan/playcalling and Winston doing a tremendous job of avoiding sacks by his mobility and getting the ball out of his hands. I really think this is an example of some good coaching by Koetter.
Now, I don’t hear anyone talking about the OL poor run blocking. I guess if half of their job is working good we aren’t allowed to acknowledge the other half that was getting knocked off the ball in run blocking.

  5. John McKillop Says:

The Oline played well and should improve weekly. Vince Wilfork is tough to run against, so I’m going look past this last game and see how well they can run against the panthers. The arrow is pointing up for the Oline.

    Baby steps DallasBuc. Baby steps.

  7. JJ Says:

A lot of you guys hooted (especially Joe) when I said we should go out and sign Incognito. Well that “cancer” does not seem to hurt the Bills. Wish we had him.

  8. Seminole Bill Says:

The O-line did okay last week. Not spectacular, but better than the week before. The Patriots have 3, count ’em, 3 rookies on the starting O-line, and they have been doing fine. Could it be coaching?

  9. Buc1987 Says:

JJ…well how do you know what he’s doing for the Bills? Let me guess? He’s the reason why the Bills are doing so good now right? Is that it? Did I guess it right?

    What do I win?

  10. JJ Says:

Actually I was reminded of him when I read about his success in MMQB by Peter King. And Peter does think he is a critical part of their QB performance.

@Buc1987 – I was also a fan of signing Richie Incognito, who by the way is rated the second best LG in the NFL by Pro Football Focus. He has only given up one QB hit in 196 snaps and has also been very strong in the run game and has no penalties. It really sucks that after having his best game as a pro Donovan Smith has a knee injury. The OL is just beginning to show the chemistry they need to play together and be successful. Joe Hawley, Ali Marpet and Logan Mankins are showing the heart and hustle an OL has to have. Gosden Cherilus is playing better each game and looking like he was back in 2013, when he was the 8th rated RT by PFF, protecting Andrew Luck. If Donovan Smith can’t play it is time for Kevin Pamphile to step up until Demar Dotson returns.

  12. Mike Johnso Says:

The O line can protect all it wants. If we do not contain Cam Newton, get a pass rush or play decent Defense? The Panthers are gonna have feast on our Bucs come Sunday. I ask all of you…Where is the fire on Defense? I see..none. The Texans passed and ran…at will. It mean absolutely nothing if your offense scores 30 and the opposing offense scores 31.

Finally heard it in Jameis press conference, paraphrased edition, yes the other team is talented on defense, but we have to establish what we do. Derrick Brooks always said its on us, to do what we do. I don’t think Dirk adjusted to defenses in Atlanta, he made them adjust to their offense, that is the direction we go with Jameis.
Obviously not talking about this defense, because we don’t have the horses we once did, but there should be enough. I hope we eventually develop our young players instead continuing to bring in retreads from the Love Boat. I would rather se them lose and learn than lose with these inconsistent vets.
