Bucs Banged Up At Defensive End

Bucs DE Larry English was carted off the field tonight, one of two injuries to top defensive ends.

The Bucs largely have been unfazed by the injury bug through three positively worthless preseason games. That luck ran out tonight in the final worthless preseason game.

First, right guard Garrett Gilkey got the dreaded cart treatment, a very, very bad sign for NFL players. Then, the defensive ends started dropping like empty beer bottles at Joe’s favorite watering hole.

Starting defensive end T.J. Fatinikun was lost for the game with a shoulder injury, and in the second half, backup defensive end Larry English, who was starting in place of injured Jacquies Smith (shoulder) suffered a knee injury. English, too, was carted off.

Also, safety Keith Tandy, a key special teams player, was pretty well beat up through the game, but he was able to finish with a pick in the final moments.

An already thin defensive edge for the Bucs just got thinner and maybe transparent. Joe is going to guess Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht will be surfing the waiver wire the next few days for big time for an edge rusher, if not maybe pulling off another trade.

The single most thing Jason pointed out was our need for defensive end. You know exactly where our number one pick is going next draft…

  2. JameisBucsfan Says:

I bet we keep Bowers now……

  3. Buccfan37 Says:

Too many injuries all the way around. Bowers limps off. Medic!

  4. Buc Neckid Says:

Is it a bad thing that a player that is going to be cut this weekend is “injured” in the last pre-season game?
Seems like a good way to get paid and stay on the team on IR and get entrenched into the team for another year hobbling around the facility and try again next year.
If the injury is real, That sucks.
But if it is an “injury” that can be exploited for gain…

  5. JAB83 Says:

I foresee a 50 sack season… Not gonna need the DE play till playoff when lack of pressure on QB really gets exposed… We are gonna be fine till than…. BET!!!

  9. Jason McLaurin Says:

There are a lot of roster spots available now I can tell you that. We won’t have English for the year, Gilkey is over with for damn sure and FAT won’t be there for a while either. I dont think JAC is healthy yet either. Bowers is hurt I mean man they should cut just about everyone who is injured

The #Bucs should make a play for Willie Young from Chicago! With their switch in def styles he is an outsider. I think he had 9 1/2 sacks last season in a 4-3!
