“Best Movement I Have Ever Seen At Safety”

Ronde Barber says a Bucs safety eclipses John Lynch when it comes to movement.

Ronde Barber says a Bucs safety eclipses John Lynch when it comes to movement.

Joe believes Ronde Barber often is selling on the airwaves what lurks in Lovie Smith’s brain.

So Barber’s insight is telling when it comes to the eventual makeup of the Tampa Bay roster.

Take this gem from Barber during the Bucs-Browns telecast on Saturday night.

Safety Chris Conte, for former Chicago/Lovie player signed this offseason, made his Tampa Bay debut early in the second quarter and Barber offered the following.

“I’m excited to see Chris Conte. I watched his practice film the other day and he’s got the best movement I have ever seen at safety,” Barber said.

“Ever seen,” Ronde? Really?

That’s pretty amazing Barber could deduce all that from practice film on a guy coming back from a hamstring injury.

But hey, how could Joe not share such a bold statement from a Bucs icon about a new Buccaneers.

Drafted in the third round in 2011, Conte jumped in from the lockout shortened offseason and started more than half the season for Lovie Smith in Chicago. He was a starter through last season, but missed lots of time with various injuries, including multiple concussions.

The Bucs are paying him more than $1 million guaranteed this season. So look for Conte to be playing a major role. It wouldn’t surprise Joe to see him as the opening day starter with D.J. Swearinger.

This is evidence that the NFL needs to seriously adjust it’s rules to limit head injuries/trauma as Ronde is clearly suffering from dementia!! JUST LIKE A LOT OF THE POSTERS ON THIS SITE!!!!

“It’s as simple as that” – Lovie Smith aka “I’ll clean up this mess just like Obama did!!!”

  6. Bucco Brice Says:

Conte and Swearinger??? McDougald’s the best safety we have!

  7. Cover deuce Says:

Uh, no way Conte starts over McDougald. The coaches have been smitten with McD all offseason.

If only we were so lucky. Helped us recover from the WORST financial disaster since the Great Depression and made it possible for millions to have health care.

And we’re only looking to stop a 30-70 run here…not another Great Depression.

You guys should really leave the gratuitous political shots aside for two reasons.
First it’s a sports blog we come here to get away from that. 2nd you show your complete ignorance of the FACTS!

  9. LUVMYBUCS Says:

When Ronde said this during the game – I couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

Seriously Ronde, Brian Dawkins played during your tenure. And Conte is no where close to being – as fluid as BDAWK.

Lol, Remember when RB Fred Jackson face palmed Conte?

  14. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

Please keep the politics out of here.

They all suck, and it’s bad enough that we are going to be inundated everywhere also for the next year plus. This is one of the few places that I don’t have to listen to either jacknut side argue.

  15. Rrsrq Says:

Conte benefitted from Jennings, Tillman, Urlacher and probably a few others w e do not have here in Tampa yet, he’s a Buc, so I hope he balls out

  16. tdtb2015 Says:

I think Rhonde has been watching to much Monday Night Football. Gruden talk has infiltrated his brain cells. lol

I do like our safeties. Actually, I like the whole Defense! Now that Lovie will be calling plays watch out!

In Lovie and Licht I TRUST!!!

  17. Buc1987 Says:

I think Ronde was just was just making that comment to fill time in the booth. Sometimes commenters just say the most nonsensical things just to fill in time.

    Re-posted from the last thread:

Being the stats nerd that I am, I just looked up the stats on one Rex Grossman.
Since he only had ONE season that he played 16 games, I will assume that 2006 was the year that Lovie and the Bears were in the SuperBowl. For that season, it seems that Grossman was either “feast or famine”.

For instance, he had 10 games that year where his QB rating was > 80.
In fact 7 of those games were greater than 98 QBR!!!, such as the 4 TDs and no INTs vs DET (148 QBR), and 3 TDs and no INTs vs the 49er’s (QBR 137.4).

But then there were the 0 TD and 4 INTs games against ARI (QBR 10.2), as well as 0 TDs and 3 INTs vs. NE (QBR 23.7), and MINN (QBR 1.3!) and also vs GB where he was 2 0f 12 for 33 yds, and a QBR of 0.0!!! I didn’t even know that was possible. Talk about inconsistent. Nevertheless, he did play well enough in TEN games to help a stellar defense to make the playoffs.

Does anyone else think that Ronde has no business in the broadcast booth?

Love the guy, but he has not gotten any better…

    Go Sucs!

  20. Pickgrin Says:

Conte and Swearinger as the starters???? Um – Joe – did you start drinking too early today? McDougald is our best safety and the only safety that is all but guaranteed to be out there vs the Titans. Major Wright, Swearinger and Conte are battling to be the other starter. I hope it’s Swearinger because I think he has the most talent and upside – + that football dislodging, TD saving pop he put on the Bengals receiver was exactly what I want to see a safety doing in our secondary.

Damn I promise I’ll get my eyes checked and get glasses real soon. I have some of the dumbest typos ever!

Your eyesight must not be too bad if you can still “see the need”. :^)
I started wearing a contact a couple years ago, and it was one of the best decisions I have made.

McDougall is a player on the rise. Conte not only is injury prone but also can’t cover a speedy receiver after a ten yard downhill route run. Please Lovie stop picking up all those bears castaways, it just makes you look bad. Anyways Lovie, either you sail your ship to some wins, or you will be getting some coordinator job pretty soon. No more excuses.
