Shakeup Coming At Returner?

August 30th, 2015
Bucs rookie receiver/returner Rannell Hall.

Bucs rookie receiver/returner Rannell Hall.

Rookie returner/receiver Kaelin Clay was in significant pain the Bucs’ locker room last night with a rib injury.

He was in great spirits, but definitely hurting and taking in the good wishes of teammates.

Clay had a solid kickoff return and a decent punt return against the Browns, but the injury got him removed from the game.

Enter rookies Rannell Hall and Adam Humphries. They were more than capable in punt and kick return duty, not even a juggled ball that Joe saw. Hall had three kickoff returns for 93 yards, which Joe guarantees will get attention from the Bucs’ hierarchy.

Both made impacts as receivers in garbage time. During the pregame radio broadcast, former Bucs tight end Dave Moore was raving about Humphries’ work against the Bengals and how he appears to be a true slot receiver.

At this rate, Joe wouldn’t wager a nickel that 2015 fifth- and sixth-round picks, Kenny Bell and Clay, make the final roster.

Joe also would not be shocked, if Clay is significantly banged up, to see Bobby Rainey as your No. 1 returner on opening day.

Meh. Gunna be tough justifying both picks if they don’t make it. I think bell at least might get a seriously bad hang nail and need to go on IR

  2. StPeteBucsFan Says:

At the beginning of training camp Bell was supposed to the real undiscovered gem. I have not written him off totally but he’s clearly PS unless claimed.

Is it just me or is Rannell Hall developing into the “feel good” story this year?
All you Knights must be feeling pretty proud.

  3. Newbucsfan Says:

Bell & Clay should be on the practice squad. The receivers are: Evans,Jackson,Murphy,Humphries,ASJ,Stocker,Brate and Hall. RB’s are:Martin,Sims,Rainey but Brooks is cut. Starting line should be:Smith,Mankins,Warren,Marpet, and Gosder w/ Pamphile,EDS, and another lineman not on roster. D-line should be: Melton,McCoy, the two Seattle FA,Johnson,David,Greene,Kwon,Lansannah,Carter,McDougald,Moore,Swearinger,Banks,Verner,Wright,Sidbury,That dude from Buffalo that’s been hurt. Gholsten and Fantinukin barely make it w/ another D-end not on roster. Iso gets on practice squad with the other fullback being cut. This team still lacks depth in a lot of areas but if all stay relatively healthy there is still enough talent to have a successful season if everything falls right.

I guess Kenny Bell should spend more time on his game and less time on his hair.

  5. John McKillop Says:

@Greg, I was looking at his hair last night, it doesn’t look like he spends any time on it. Anyhow I like Hall and Humphries better than clay and bell. I can see Bell on practice squad.

  6. Buc1987 Says:

LOL Clay had like 5 guys land on him in that PR. Right before he caught the punt, I looked at him and thought to myself, damn that guy looks pretty skinny. Next thing you know he has 5 guys land on top of him. He gets up hurt and I said no wonder. This guy is too little to return punts. Kickoffs no problem, but punts will get a little guy like that killed. Hence what happened last night.

  7. NewTampaChris Says:

Man, don’t we read this story every year?

  8. Bucs2016 Says:

Ironically, Rannell Hall/Adam Humpries sounds much better than Kenny Bell and Kalien Clay.

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

You could look at these situations a couple of different ways……like..

Hall & Humphres being better than Bell and Clay….perhaps we didn’t draft poorly and Bell & Clay are good and we simply got fortunate with Hall & Humphreys…

Same can be said with Kwon & Carter……nothing really that wrong with Carter….Kwon is just that good.

Here is one Buc fan not complaining about this.

Our problem lies on the lines……

I like NewBuc’sFan’s picks to make our roster. I doubted Clay would be durable enough to return kicks and yesterday proved it. Let Hall be our kick returner and compete with Humphries for backup slot receiver. Put Bell and our Wyoming second year receiver on the Practice Squad along with Lyons and a DE and the losing FB and our third string QB. The rest should be good cut players we get too. Can’t fault Licht. He brought us Anderson, Winston, and two good Rookie OL we needed!

  11. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Kenny Bell will make the team. Just watch.

  12. Nuc if u Buc Says:

Hall is a great reciever, been saying this for months now…

  13. Jason McLaurin Says:

I think Clay goes on IR for the time being so Rannell Hall gets a roster spot he deserves it to. He and Shepherd would be great on this active roster. Bell is gonna make it as well because I think they are going to cut down on the Defensive line shorter than expected too. They are going to use practice squad for the offensive line im guessing.
