Gameday Tampa Bay

August 29th, 2015

Preseason Game Three

Browns at Bucs

Kickoff: 7 p.m.

TV: WFLA-TV Channel 8. Game will be rebroadcast on NFL Network at 6 a.m. tomorrow; Monday at 4 p.m.; Thursday at 10 a.m.

Radio: Buccaneers Radio Network (WDAE-AM 620 and WFUS-FM 103.5 in Tampa-St.Petersburg region); SiriusXM Channel 109.

Weather: Per Joe’s friends at WTSP-TV Channel 10, it might be a good idea to bring your raincoats. There is a 40 percent chance of rain at kickoff with temperatures at 84 degrees. Rain chances will decrease slightly as the game transpires, with a minimal drop in temperature to 82 at game’s end.

Odds: Per FootballLocks.com, Bucs -2.5.

Outlook: As Lovie Smith likes to say this time of the year, it’s all about getting noticed. So with wide receiver Kenny Bell out, along with Mike Evans, it’s time for Robert Herron and Rannell Hall to get noticed. A good game by either receiver would go a long way toward them making the roster. Same goes for tight ends Cameron Brate and Tim Wright. On the defensive side of the ball, could this be the last home game for Da’Quan Bowers? Now a defensive tackle, Bowers seems caught in a numbers game with so many tackles on the roster.

Of course, it is all about America’s Quarterback, Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston. Would be nice to see if he can continue his solid play that dates back to his late-first-half touchdown drive in the first preseason game at Minnesota.

Joe sure as hell hopes Doug Martin doesn’t touch the ball. The Bucs need him and he’s going to get enough wear and tear in the regular season. No need for needless punishment on what has been a brittle body in recent years.

The Connor Barth/Patrick Murray kicking war might actually make this game worth watching until the final whistle. It’s do or die in that battle.

Joe’s looking for the pass rush to continue. If the Bucs really gameplan to stop Josh McCown, then Joe expects plenty of blitzes. We all know what McCown does when he’s pressured. Jacquies Smith and T.J. Fatinikun are expected back, two defensive ends Lovie Smith is counting on.

Good article Joe. That is probably as positive as any of us can expect these days.

  2. Rob Says:

Well, that’s suitably bleak… Go bucs, or something like that

  3. Buccfan37 Says:

A sack is as rare as a dollar scratch off lottery ticket winner. There I fixed that.

  4. The don Says:

    It’s a Bucs life.

No one cares about your false optimism lovie. We see how horrible you are

    Loser

  5. Buc813 Says:

Fire lovie after this year and only players I would keep are evans,Rainey,McCoy,David, verner,Dotson, asj, glennon as backup, cut the rest and start over

  6. ToesOnTheLine! Says:

Man I just realized the Bucs will have to go 5-4 the rest of the way if they’re gonna make my preseason 6-10 prediction. YIKES, even that is looking out of reach for this team. We might have to wait until after next season wraps up to see 6 wins with Lovie the Defensive Mastermind Smith as this team’s HC…players respect him and he treats them like men though…uh huh

  7. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Great analysis Joe but I’m not tossing in the towel.

    GO BUCS! SCREW THE DRAFT!

  8. gatrbuc17 Says:

The Bucs pull one out today. I have Faith.
Maybe they should look at some game tape of Florida’s OLine yesterday.

  9. OB Says:

    Joe

Regardless of the outcome, you picked a winner for today’s looker.

  10. Buccfan37 Says:

Did they already move the clocks back 1 hour? Is the game almost 2 hours away?

  11. MGM4Life Says:

    Browns 35 bucs 14

  12. BucForce Says:

Keep posting Game Day pics like her and you website hits will go through the roof.

I have no confidence in a Bucs victory today, or the rest of the season. Just shut up and prove it to us fans. We’ve heard enough BS from the GM on down. We are not sheep, we care about this team, have followed it for decades, even though we are not collecting a paycheck like you.

Have some pride for a change.

  13. BucTrooper Says:

it’s refreshing to see a BLUNT article that isn’t hopeful for decent protection, adequate pass rush, or some semblance of a running game

  14. bosscantworkmytoehurts Says:

Well she was a nice surprise!

  15. Drew Says:

McDonald started at center last week, so not the third in as many weeks.

  16. "TheKevin" Says:

    @the villageidiots

Lots of you want lovie fired this year lmao.

So then tell me experts since your all knowing what would YOU do after firing lovie?

Please explain what you would do other than just screaming “fire lovie”

I would love to hear you experts explain your direction for this team.

No one says. They just say “fire lovie” and that’s it lol. Losers of the idiot mob.

Please keep making yourselves look stupid it’s awesome I must say.

  17. Can the season just end today? Says:

The Browns should start Manziel today and get him some more real experience. After all, it’s not like he can screw up and lose the game because the Bucs are already gonna hand it to them anyway.

  18. Pete 422 Says:

Bucs are going to get killed. I can’t watch

  19. Buccfan37 Says:

Oh well, Hey Hey Hey we’re the Buccaneers, Ho Ho Ho we’re the Buccaneers, Offense Defense, now we’re here to say, make the Brownies walk the plank, throw em in Lake Erie to stay, Hey! Go Bucs!!! Let’s get a win!

  20. blind melon Says:

The comments are clocked in from November 2014… deja vu?

  21. Firethecannons Says:

Manziel hurt his elbow. I’m sure Joe was really looking forward to watching last years crush and this years crush battle it out in our stadium. Off topic – why is that every “Game Day Tampa Bay” picture is an opponents cheerleader? Not that I’m complaining cause you always find very quality photos, just curious…

  22. Tampa Tony Says:

This is the only pre season game I’ll watch in its entirety.

  23. RCH Says:

Wishing Rannell Hall the Best. Built By UCF!

  24. "TheKevin" Says:

Some idiot is impersonating me. I am and always have been “Thekevin”

This other idiot needs to find another name. Any of you that remeber me know exactly who I am. You’re all stupid idiots. And “Thekevin” you need to find another name and stop taking mine you **ck

  25. "TheKevin" Says:

Oh sorry that was my post from last year.

  26. Sick of the Wait Says:

    Joe
Does Longo know you are posting pics of Jamie? Lol.

  27. Buccfan37 Says:

Cleveland Browns act 2, at least this one doesn’t count. I so wanted to see Johnny football play. Josh McCown, not so much.

  28. Buccfan37 Says:

There were way more comments from last years Browns game, OK I’ll bite since you stopped the old comments after mine. Hey Hey Hey we’re the Buccaneers, Ho Ho Ho we’re the Buccaneers, Offense Defense, now we’re here to say, Make the Brownies walk the plank, Throw em in Tampa Bay. Hey!

  29. @Broy3434 Says:

Buc813 —-!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????good idea cut marpet Donovan smith Jonathan banks Kwon Alexander and Henry Melton. Good thinking (all under thirty) that’s perhaps the single dumbest statement I’ve read on here in yearsssss

  30. JameisBucsfan Says:

Love the ironic comment glitch. Go Bucs.

  31. Jena W Says:

Buc813 wants Jameis gone as well! Didn’t put JW on the ‘only players I would keep’ list. Trolls continue to show that the soft porn photos Joe puts up shorts out what little brains they have. Or maybe it’s because they’re trying to type with one hand. lol

  32. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

The Don ya mama a loser it’s clear she had you. Get off my HC n@$ S@$ homie.

  33. Buc1987 Says:

    Bucs 17 Browns 13

Check the radar…a huge mass of red is on it’s way to Tampa in about an hour.
    Could be a long night.

  34. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

  37. Buc1987 Says:

    form*

  38. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I hope Martin runs…my son loves him and seeing him doing well again might just get him to stop ignoring the team again…like he did last year.

  39. The original "Kevin" Says:

Wow….guess the bengals were just that bad on Monday! This sucks. We look like week one vs the vikings. Which team will we get against Tennessee???

  40. Tampa Tony Says:

McClown is making a clown of Lovie’s d. This sucks

  41. Tampa Tony Says:

Gonna be a long year with this offensive line.

  42. The original "Kevin" Says:

Offense is playing so slow and conservative. They dont look like they really care tonight.

  43. The original "Kevin" Says:

I personally cant see why some fans dislike charles simms. He looks pretty decent to me. His feet are very quick..

  44. The original "Kevin" Says:

Funny Josh Mccown is looking really good tonight.

  45. Tampa Tony Says:

If this is the tune up for the regular season we are in big trouble. Everyone still saying how great a play caller Lovie is now?

  46. RustyRhinos Says:

Just looked at the score and watched the browns drive the field on fist possession of 2nd half, we did have our 1st team out there?

  47. RustyRhinos Says:

No way!, can we say 3 and out? Yes and a loss of 11 It is a Bucs “fans” life… Tune up for the season opener?

  48. The original "Kevin" Says:

This is so pathetic…..josh mccown just looked like drew brees. That zone defense got picked apart like pulled pork. We are in deep sheit if that is how we play regular season

  49. BucFan20 Says:

I told you last week. Do not expect this Defense to hold teams under 21 points. And so far Winston can score no more than 6 or put the team in position for 10. At least last year we were 17 most of the time by half time.

  50. The original "Kevin" Says:

We are screwed. Again….thank god for fantasy football. At least the lightning keep the tampa bay area excited about local sports…
