Did Jameis Black Out?

Strange words from the very mouth of “America’s Quarterback,” Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston.

Strange indeed.

Jameis claimed during his postgame news conference that he couldn’t remember the play in which he injured his right ankle, a sandwich sack performed by Wallace Gilberry (non-Schiano man) and Geno Atkins, a play that led to him being pulled from last night’s game for good.

How could you not remember getting drilled by one of the top defensive tackles in the NFL and blowing a wheel on the same play unless you blacked out in pain?

Either Jameis simply didn’t want to talk about it, or he was in severe pain.

If Jameis is hurt, then he is doing a helluva acting job. After being pulled from the game, he was walking up and down the sidelines fully engaged with teammates. He wasn’t limping and he wasn’t wearing a boot, and there wasn’t a priest hovering over him administering the Last Rites.

In fact, after the game, Jameis ran off the field without a noticeable limp, with his arms raised in victory.

In this BSPN video below, Jameis again dodges the ankle question and scoffs when asked about his critics calling him “immature.”

@Joe … “Either Jameis simply didn’t want to talk about it, or he was in severe pain.”

I vote for the “Jameis simply didn’t want to talk about it” option. Looking at the replay, his ankle was bent over pretty good, and then he took a knee right on the ankle. Ouch!

Since we’re voting, after reading the comments to an earlier article about starting Jeremiah Warren at center, and seeing so many fans voting to rid ourselves of EDS … our only experienced center … I came to the conclusion that our coaches obviously just don’t understand football. So in the interest of preserving a successful season, fans should get to vote on who makes the team and who doesn’t, and who starts and who doesn’t.

Oh wait, we already do that. It’s called ‘Fantasy Football’. Never mind, bad suggestion.

  2. P'cola Buc Says:

Jameis focuses on the positive. He talks often about building on the positives. Something we can all grow on.

  3. BROCKTACULAR Says:

Nice performance kid. Always keep ’em wantin’ more!

  4. The original "Kevin" Says:

Joe why were yhe messages on the open thread turned off on here? Are you moving things gull time to the new message boards. I find the new boards more difficult to navigate and less appealing overall. Will there be no more open threads on this version on JBF???

  5. The original "Kevin" Says:

If Jameis is or does ever become hurt…iy became clear we have an very accurate and poised passer in Mike Glennon. Something nobody would admit despite no OL AND OC. Glad to see hes shutting his critics up one game at a time with real coaching for the first time in his career.

  6. thunderchunkyPA Says:

The MOB is alive with “Kevin”. Mike did make some nice throws, and make some good decisions.

“Obviously, people are going to look at this as a preseason game, but in that locker room, our team morale, we are going to look at it as we get a win,” said Winston, the first overall pick in this year’s draft. “That’s definitely important. We get a win. It does matter. It doesn’t matter if it’s a football game in a Wal-Mart parking lot. We want to win.” That’s all I have to say about that. Damn folks get excitied! Supersam STFU!

  8. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Just nerves and excitement over the game. Don’t read too far between the lines on this one..

  9. Dreambig Says:

Whats up with Winston always stumbling now? We have seen it three times in two games, when he starts to run he is tripping over his feet. Are they messing with his foot work too much? Does he need different cleats? This time it lead to him getting hurt.

  10. DallasBuc Says:

When Winston goes down the back of his head bounces really hard off the turf. If he doesn’t remember that play it is likely due to a slight concussion. This will not be lost on the trainers internally or the NFL concussion police.

  11. Tom Edrington Says:

After listening to Gruden gush over Glennon, he may be the new leader of the MOB.

  12. Tampa Tony Says:

It should be a criminal offense against Licht for putting such a poor o line around Jameis

  13. Stanglassman Says:

One or both of the G(s) kept stepping on his foot right after the snap last night, it happened 3-4 times that I noticed. He did seem to trip or get caught up on the turf a bit too. It could be as simple as changing too a shorter cleat in the front of his shoe. I’m sure they’ll address it and get it figured out.

  14. Stanglassman Says:

BTW that was the 1st time I’ve seen him disgusted by the media. That question about his past after his first 1st win as a Buccaneers was completely inappropriate.

  15. Bucnjim Says:

I am glad we now have Winston! He has really grown on me and is starting to show his worth as a number 1 pick in the draft. That being said I wish Glennon only the best as his value continues to rise. I really think this guy will have future success in the NFL. He has become more accurate and does have the arm strength to make all the throws. I think that not only Glennon, but several other players have had the unfortunate task of playing on a very sh!tty team. It is sad that so many decent players careers are ended before their time because of poor coaching and management.

  16. mike Says:

glennon looked good, but i wouldn’t trade him. Our line may get Jameis killed so we need a back up

  17. jimmy53 Says:

    Kevin:

I’m of the opposite mind–I saw exactly why Glennon will never be a consistent starter during last night’s game.

Watching him roll out to the left on a pass play was painful. He made Peyton Manning look like Russel Wilson. He has to be able to move and shift in the pocket if he wants to start. And, simply put, he can’t…at all…not even a little bit.

  18. Jeagan1999 Says:

I severely sprained an ankle when playing high school football, and while it hurt when it happened, it hurt like hell the next day! I’m sure Jameis is quite sore today. He will be spending a good portion of his day today in the ice bath and getting rubbed down, but I think he will be fine.

  19. Hawk Says:

    @ The original “Kevin”

I’m with you on the message board issue… for the same reasons.

  20. Buccfan37 Says:

I saw Winston slightly limping from the time he got up from the sack, walking off the field and on the sidelines. How could anyone miss that?

  21. Stanglassman Says:

    I don’t think anyone did Bucfan37.

  22. NashvilleBuc Says:

We were on the 50, 211 row A. Jameis was clearly limping, sometimes exaggeratedly so, the entire remainder of the game. Hope it isn’t serious.

  23. pick6 Says:

jameis seems incapable of negativity. no interest in talking about an ankle tweak when he can talk about his teammates dominating a football game.

Quit being a hater. In case you missed it, it was the coaches who decided to start Jeremiah Warren at center last night. That means they came to the conclusion before anyone here did.

But that doesn’t really fit your “HATE LOVIE” agenda, does it?

  25. BucFan20 Says:

chunky changed names? The MOB is still alive but glad Winston is here too. I also see no more points put up as advertised like he could. Against a non scheme defense he hits a few passes. just did get lucky to make it to the end zone. So far I am not impressed. 7 and 14 points will lose us every game. 17 lost them last year. Don’t count on this defense to shut down teams to under 21 points.

  26. drdneast Says:

Wow Buc Bonzai, point taken. Many of the hayseeds out here o ly know what they have heard or been told third hand.

  27. MGL Says:

Didn’t he bang the back of his head on the ground on that play? Might’ve been a little dizzy.

  28. Buc1987 Says:

BuccaneerBonzai…jeesh I took his post for what it was…sarcasm.
