Crutches And A Boot For Leonard Johnson

August 26th, 2015

leonard johnson 0624Tough times for the pride of Largo High, Bucs’ fourth-year cornerback Leonard Johnson.

Veteran Tampa Tribune beat writer Roy Cummings reported, via Twitter, that Johnson watched practice today using crutches and a boot on his left foot.

This is one of those moves that really affects the Bucs’ roster “bubble,” as it’s affectionately known.

Would the Bucs flat-out cut Johnson, who is a good special teams player and spent a lot of time as the first nickel cornerback this summer? Perhaps they would, given that the Bucs have experienced Sterling Moore and Isiah Frye. But Johnson is making decent cash as a restricted free agent signing.

Also, defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier referenced recently that there are depth concerns at cornerback.

So it’s likely the Bucs would hang on to Johnson and keep an extra — and healthy — cornerback, which could affect roster numbers at other positions.

Welcome to the always floating and re-shaping bubble.

Don’t wish anyone injury…..but in this case it may be the only way to see how others will likely outperform LJ…..

hmmm this was bad for Johnson but good for the team. wonder why we didn’t see receivers running wide open on the underneath routes in the middle of the field? turtle like LJ wasn’t in the game that much

Tough for him…good for the Buc’s. The pic makes me realize how badly I miss the old uniforms and dislike the current ringling brothers version.

Here’s to another person stepping up in that nickel role before Johnson kicks the boot

This might be exactly what we need. I hope he recovers quickly, gets cut and then signed to one of our division rivals and starts.

Fsuking, if E.J. Biggers can get picked up than I guess LJ could too! Lol

I just hope th CB position doesn’t affect how many WR we keep.

Is it not possible to hide him on the IR for awhile. I get lost in all the IR and PUP designations and how much protection that gives the 53 man roster for how long.
