How high would Bucs WR Kenny Bell had been drafted if he played with a decent quarterback in college?
Joe must lasso himself at times while typing about Bucs rookie wide receiver Kenny Bell.
Of all the draft picks, aside from “America’s Quarterback,” Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston, none gets Joe jacked up more than Bell.
Yes, it’s kind of silly to get worked up that much over a fifth-round pick. But Joe saw enough of Bell in college to know the guy has skills and a very high ceiling.
To hear Woody Cummings of The Tampa Tribune talk about Bell, we may have yet to see the best of Bell.
Speaking yesterday to host Mike Clay on SiriusXM Fantasy — remember: Joe’s idea of fantasy has nothing to do with football — Cummings had an interesting factoid about Bell that Joe thought was a home run.
“Kenny Bell is someone they really believe in,” Cummings said about the Bucs and Bell. “And I think if he played at a different college and in a different system, he probably wouldn’t be available to the Buccaneers when they drafted him because he would have been drafted a whole lot higher. He has a lot of ability.”
The past two seasons, Bell basically played with hot garbage at quarterback with the Cornhuskers. In Bell’s first two years he had Taylor Martinez at quarterback, sort of a Midwest version of Chris Rix. The two things Martinez was OK at was running and sometimes throwing deep, and he took advantage of Bell’s wheels often.
In Bell’s junior year, Martinez got hurt early and Nebraska used a rotating set of slop at quarterback, with the immortal Ron Kellogg III being perhaps the best, to abuse the word “best.”
Last year, Bell had the coveted Tommy Armstrong, Jr., attempting to throw him passes. Christian Hackenberg, he was not.
And people wonder why crackpot Bo Pelini was run off?
There is no question that playing for Jameis, Bell will have the best quarterback throwing to him he ever had and it’s not remotely close. If Bell can stay healthy, there is no telling how much he could blow up.

His name has a nice ring to it, I think he can match that on the field. Only the Bell will sound like a cannon when he hauls in the TD’s.

High hopes for this young man. A 5th round pick who becomes a starter at WR would be a real coup for Licht and his scouting staff (referring to Jason Licht’s dad of course – LOL).
Can’t wait to see how Bell looks in pre-season games.

This draft class could really go down as one of the better Bucs drafts in history. If we can claim a franchise QB, solid OL additions and a steal on a mid round WR, those alone would make this a good class. If K. Alexander and Clay can make the roster and contribute positively on special teams, that would be an added bonus.

I have said this many times that Kenny Bell reminds me of Kevin House, a pure deep threat on every play. Maybe Jameis Winston and Kenny Bell would be our version of Doug Williams and Kevin House, instead of Jameis making a House call. I guess he would just ring the Bell lol.

Bell has another huge advantage. DC’s around the league are already figuring out ways to stop ME without giving too much to VJAX.
Now what happens if ASJ blossoms and Sims can catch the ball out of the backfield?
Kenny Bell will have at least one year as a phantom on the field. Given the Bucs proven weapons…and potentially solid weapons in ASJ and Sims…what DC is going to give Bell a second thought?

Rayjay this draft class is going to be graded on one player alone. I’m skeptical of the o-lineman we got but if they work out along with Bell that would be a nice bonus! Time will tell.
