Fire In The Belly

July 18th, 2015

One reason Bucs fans are all jacked up by what Jacquies Smith accomplished (6 1/2 sacks) in half a season last year is because it had been so long since Tampa Bay had a defensive end who played with relentless fire.

Michael Bennett was that guy in 2012, but the Bucs showed him the door.

There’s another Bucs defensive end with a fiery passion these days. That’s former Bucs DE John Cannon (1982-1990).

Cannon made 73 starts in nine years for miserable Bucs teams.

Buccaneers.com interviewed him for a where-are-they-now kind of feature, and Cannon tells his unique, post-football story below. He’s celebrating his 10th anniversary as a Tampa fireman.

Enjoy.

Good morning Fellas! I am going hiking to a peak today that is 12,500 feet and loaded with Grizzly. If I’m not back on the threads by tomorrow, someone call 911.
Keep the good fight going guys. Go BUCS!

Hopefully, Jacquies builds on the personal success he had last season and doesn’t end up being another Stylez G. White.

And before I go I just want to say put me in the same club with SPBF. 6 wins should be our Floor. Ive said it too many times, I fully believe that we would have won 6 games last yr if MG had started every game. We should improve with an OC, and hopefully an OL upgrade with a better QB. I think 6 wins is BARELY improving given the new tools. That is all. Have a great day Bucs’ fans

Have a safe hike. Wife and I are headed out in an hour or so for the same adventure. Except our climb is not a mountain and our bears are relatively docile black bears not grizzlies.

Stay safe and enjoy the day.

StPeteBucsFan and Buc-A-New….and I’m sorting through my kids toy box for a garage sale. I’m sure to encounter lots of teddy bears.

I remember John Cannon. He was a decent player for those dismal Buc years. I liked the guy.

I remember John Cannon as a high motor kinda guy, not great, but definitely the best we had at the time. I’ll never forget Howie Long once said that he’ll (Cannon) soon be one of the best DE’s in football. With all do great respect Mr. Cannon, I think Howie meant the USFL……..maybe?
