What’s Next For Jameis Winston?

May 1st, 2015

Jameis Winston

Joe’s gotten the question in the headline several times in the past 24 hours.

So here’s the answer:

Jameis Winston is in Tampa and will have his official introductory news conference at 4 p.m. today. Joe presumes Team Glazer or Lovie Smith will introduce him in the fancy One Buc Palace auditorium.

Then look for Jameis to get cracking on the playbook with Bucs coaches tonight, as the support staff helps him and other rookies get settled. Perhaps the Bucs already have a home set up for Jameis — he’s surely been in town enough over the past two months — otherwise he’ll be in the team hotel with the rest of the rookies.

Friday is Jameis’ first practice, the start of Buccaneers rookie minicamp. Remember, that’s where Mike Evans shocked the world with his sick one-hand, in-stride leaping catch last year.

Of course, Joe will be at that first practice chronicling Jameis’ every touch of the football.

  3. miken Says:

why did he go with #3?

  4. Patrick in VA Says:

It was his high school number

  5. Erik the WiseMMan Says:

Joe will also probably offer Jameis a ‘happy ending’ after the practice is over…. I’ll be over at Musiccitymiracle.com trying to get acquainted with my new peeps.

  6. Charlie V Says:

His high school football jersey number was 8.

  7. Patrick in VA Says:

So go. No one cares. There’s no chance that anyone is going to try to convince you to stay here. Addition by subtraction.

Erik the WiseMMan leaving = Michael Johnson leaving

  8. Patrick in VA Says:

@Charlie V – Turns out you’re right. I read an article (somewhere, don’t remember where now) that said it was because he had 3 in high school and couldn’t at FSU because Manuel had 3. Didn’t care enough to look in to it further than that until now.

  9. LargoBuc Says:

Nice. Keeping everything i’ve read in mind, im sure Jameis will start preparing for the season. His work ethic should set the tone for the whole team and any lazy, complacent veteran can go hard or go home!

  10. Erik the WiseMMan Says:

Clarification: I’m still a Bucs fan and I always will be. However, I’m also now a Titans fan and I personally think our front office/owners are morons. I sincerely hope we can win with Jameis; but if we lose consistently, I will feel like it’s well-deserved.

Bout to be a musiccitytradjedy. Poor defence, not a single offensive weapon and folks are being told they run a highly complex offensive scheme. Good luck over there homeboy. And you refer to yourself as the wise man. (Facial expression perplexed)

  12. MadMax Says:

Whats next? He’s going to be lobbying for some O line protection! The draft is still going….

  13. Bryce Says:

To make a contract with all season ticket holders that if he messes up he will reimburse them in full.

  14. kaput Says:

When does training camp open? First preseason game?

We need a clock counting it down.

  15. cmurda Says:

I’m very happy he chose #3. If I had seen #5 on his back, it would look too much like Josh Freeman. I have to stop typing. As soon as I brought up Freeman’s name, I started feeling nauseous

  16. Dan Stone Says:

What kind of a flaming idiot have they drafted? I saw that latest crab legs picture and almost threw up. I’ve tried to support him, understand him, give him the benefit of the doubt, and all that crap. Now my opinion is : What the hell was he thinking? I want to hear nothing about the 4.0 average is high school, admitted to Stanford, football genius. He makes the decisions of a true fool!

I could easily see the Glazers calling Licht to ask, “How the hell do we rescind that pick?”

  17. Dreambig Says:

I am just happy that with Jameis on the Roster, Mike Glennon will get a few more years to develop. LOL!

  18. Keepitreal Says:

Eric… What the he!! You doing on this site if your following music city! Go follow you boy

  19. rayjay1122 Says:

For the few bone heads that get their panties in wads over pictures of crab legs….Sean King explained in greater detail as to what that was and it is legit. A captain donated the King crab legs to Winston’s family for the draft party and the pic has a caption saying thank you captain. Now some of you need to get a life, I swear!!!

  20. rayjay1122 Says:

    @ Everyone

Some of us wanted Winston, some accepted whatever the Bucs chose and some hate Winston and did not want him. Now that we have him, I realize that the haters are going to grasp hold of any ounce of negativity to continue their smear campaigns. I am fine with people who hate Winston but, just do me a favor and continue to hate him and root against him even when he leads the Bucs to championships. Please do not change your screen names and pretend that you liked him all along. In fact maybe just become Titans fans a root for Mariota. I am sure they have room on their Titan fan sites.

  21. StPeteBucsFan Says:

I’m glad he chose 3 as well. 5 is an unlucky number here in Florida. I think he’s ready to turn the corner to a new career and a new chance and put FSU and his hijinks behind him completely. Good for him!

In addition 3 is my lucky number so I’m glad to see the star QB wearing it for the Bucs!

  22. Erik the WiseMMan Says:

It’s pretty funny how some of the same entities that mocked us to draft Winston are now giving us 1st round draft grades of C & C-

  23. Pat Says:

Deckerhoff: Touchdown Tampa Bay!!! Fire them Cannons!!! Jameis Winston threw another touchdown pass!!!

    Deja vu?

  24. Hawk Says:

    @ Erik the WiseMMan

Because a mock draft is telling you who they think the team ‘will’ take, not who they think the team ‘should’ take.
