The Bucs have wasted no time promoting their No. 1 overall pick, “America’s Quarterback,” Jameis Winston.

And why not? The nation is captivated by young Jameis.

Below, courtesy of Darren Rovell, is one of the promotional videos the Bucs have produced to market their quarterback. Joe hopes you enjoy it and share your thoughts.

Dr. Evil laugh – oooh I love it!!!!!!

And I love the reference of Americas Quarterback – we should call him Capt America.

Oops can’t do that – the cheater already has that title with asterisks.

  2. R.O. Says:

Who cares. Right now hoping he learns quickly what throws he can make in the NFL and which ones he can’t. Year 2-3 will tell the tale. Would be nice to be one of the teams for once that has a 12yr with a 1 Qb/coach/GM.

  3. Ray Rice Says:

Just don’t throw it to Dudley! I mean ASJ.

  4. Martinii Says:

Turned in my season tickets few years back, not because I lost interest in the Bucs but had some health problems that put me on IR. Just purchased the new Alstott commemorative package. I am looking forward to watching Winston (Koetter and the new Bucs) and hope he lives up to all our expectations, however for some reason I’m not comfortable with “America’s Quarterback.” I think you have to earn a title like that and while I’m optimistic, I need to see him play on an NFL level first before his anointment.

  5. Evo Says:

Joe!!! JOE!!! Come on man!!! Please please please stop with the America’s quarterback stuff. I’m a FSU and Bucs fan so I’m very excited right now. This is a good time to be a Buc fan if young jameis can help us get back on the right track. But you are going to run him to a lot of fans with such a name.

Let him get us to the playoff before we give him that name. You are forcing it down our throats like that bull $hit “rock star” name for the other guy.

Take a poll joe. You say you are a Joe of the people. TAKE A POLL. SEE IF US FANS SAY IF HE NEEDS TO EARN THAT NAME BEFORE YOU KEEP USING IT. if the poll say hold off on the name then listen. You are running it in with that name joe and it’s just inviting bad karma on the young man.

  6. LutzBuczFan Says:

Whatever ‘it’ is, he has it!

  7. Wally Says:

Did Aaron Rogers or Joe Montana have promotional videos? A reputation is earned on the field. James is a rookie that we assume has good things ahead of him but this Captain America stuff is either genius or buffoonery, depending.

  8. Clodhopper Says:

Well, that was good enough to be in the WWE. I can see it now. He’s coming down to the ring with Hulk Hogan’s “I am a real American” song playing and waving a flag, screaming “I’m America’s Quarterback” pointing into his chest. He gets booed because he’s the heel. His finishing move is called Spider Y 2 Banana. While the ref is hurt, he rolls up his Championship belt into the shape of a football and throws it across the ring into the head of Alberto Del Rio and knocks him out just in time for the ref to wake up and get the three count.

  9. Joe Says:

    Evo:

Sorry man. Ain’t happening. Embrace it.

  10. OneBuc55 Says:

Nice promo…Personally, I love when Joe calls Jameis “America’s QB”….He seems to be all most media outlets in America wants to talk about these days; hence the term “Americas QB”…People who’ve never watched a snap of football know who Jameis Winston is; even when there’s no new news on Winston media outlets just recycle old negative stories with a new spin…I’m just happy L&L saw through the BS character assassination attempts by the media and did their own research…We finally got ourselves a QB Bucs fans enjoy, I know I will…

  11. Buccfan37 Says:

Instant Karma’s gonna get you. It’s gonna knock you right in the head. Sheesh!

  12. Dreambig Says:

Joe – Americas QB – Genius!

Everyone who doesn’t like the Americas QB line needs to get a sense of humor! Its a hilarious, over the top, in your face response to all the main stream media who has engaged in extreme character assasination on Winston and to OneBuc55’s point, he is all the buzz in the sports world, so it is quite fitting!

  13. ToesOnTheLine! Says:

The promo seems like a desperate attempt to prop up a guy who from what I’ve seen and heard from folks is perceived very different than in the State of Florida. You may want to change his name to “Florida’s Quarterback” because most other parts of America have a less than stellar perception of him based on his past negative press (deserved or not). Win games, play up to his draft status, and show quality of character (at least when the cameras are on) and then we can revisit the “America’sQB” with some actual seriousness.

  14. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I guess when you have one of the top QBs in the draft, you have to promote him in a big way, so I understand.

However, I have a huge problem with hyping any player…ANY PLAYER…when he has not earned it yet.

First, it builds such high expectations that it will deflate the fans excitement the moment they see that he has to be developed. And make no mistake, he does have to develop. He has to make a transition to the NFL, adjust to the speed (which will be his greatest challenge), and correct his multiple weaknesses.

Second, it adds to the pressure he is under…which will lead to a delay in development. Don’t misunderstand, he’s used to pressure and there will be pressure no matter what, but this ADDS to it. It creates a hero complex and he will take risks he shouldn’t on the field in an effort to be the hero.

Third, he is already a diva, but giving him so much hype is going to multiply that times a hundred. Think back to the game against Oregon. What we saw was a diva who refused to be accountable, blamed his teammates and worse. It was never his fault. He acted like a spoiled kid. If he pulls that in the Pros, his teammates will quit on him.

I have no problem with giving him huge props when he earns them. WHEN HE EARNS THEM.

Michael Johnson got props before he earned them here. Brian Price got them. Mike Glennon got them.

I could go down the list. There have been hundreds of hyped players for the Bucs who failed.

You know who didn’t get hyped? Barber. He took 5 years to develop, no fans believed in him at the time. But he kept working and as a result, he became one of the best. He EARNED props.

Gerald McCoy. He was injured his first two years. By then, many, many Tampa fans were labeling him a bust. He proved otherwise. He EARNED props.

John Lynch earned it too. Heck, he thought he would be cut in each of his first two years. He EARNED props.

So calling him “America’s Quarterback” because he is talked about…it’s dumb. “America’s Most Hated Rookie Quarterback” would be more accurate, because outside of Tampa and FSU, the majority of fans hate the guy. Perhaps unfairly, but it’s true.

Just read the comments on any website about him.

Jameis Winston had earned nothing. He’ll have to prove himself on and off the field, and giving him a free pass is just stupid.

  15. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Oh, and the promo kind of sucked.

  16. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

“He seems to be all most media outlets in America wants to talk about these days”

    Not true.

    Tom Brady is.

    Nonstop. It is downright sickening.

  17. BlogTalkFootball Says:

Gee whiz, people! The promo video is for selling tickets! That is all. When we didn’t have America’s QB, they had GMC in their promos. When Revised was a Buc, he was the featured video subject.
Let the organization fill the seats with Buccaneers fans so that we can be louder than the visiting team’s fans…

    Autocorrect really sucks!

  20. OneBuc55 Says:

With all do respect Bonzi Buc…

Winston is not a Diva…He’s been portrayed that way by the media…He’s a smart guy with a unreal work ethic…I’m still trying to figure out how he managed to play 2 sports in college and keep his GPA over 3.5…that’s some serious time management skills…Lovie said it himself, “nobody’s gonna out-work this guy”…

  21. Rrsrq Says:

Not feeling the promo, that was FSU, I would rather a promo of the Buccaneers, ya know, like, “it’s a Bucs life” with multiple players. We should be paying and hyping LVD and Evans, that way we might get a mention on the top 100 other than McCoy

  22. ToesOnTheLine! Says:

I get what you’re saying BlogTalkFootball, and after a 2-14 season I’m sure ownership is desperate to generate some enthusiasm. However both GMC and Revis had actually accomplished something at the pro level and neither had the off field baggage that Winston is carrying his college days.

  23. Clodhopper Says:

“America’s Quarterback”= Thee most non controversial controversy in the history of human kind.

Get a freaking grip people. If this were a movie, you guys would be the hyperventilating drama queen that gets slapped and comes back to her senses.

NFL is for entertainment purposes. Get that cob out of your butt and be entertained.

  24. Tiny Tim Says:

    @ Toesontheline

You are still on off field baggage as it relates to Jameis? You can’t tell by the stories coming out of OBP that a lot of the so called baggage was overblown and this kid has something special? Who cares about what the uneducated people who is clueless and tricked by the media to believe a narrative that does not exist. You like them let the media trick you into thinking Winston is 666 himself. Here is a little portion from an article I thought was interesting on America’s quarterback………..

Moawad, a renowned mental conditioning coach who worked extensively with the star quarterback at Florida State, was back on campus for the school’s pro day, but long after Winston had wrapped up performing for the scouts and meeting with several of the teams present, he was still nowhere to be found.

Eventually, Moawad figured out that Winston was back in the football offices, in the quarterback room, to be exact, watching film of a recent spring practice that the former Heisman Trophy winner was not even a part of, with his college career long ago over after a Rose Bowl defeat. For a good 90 minutes Moawad waited as Winston dissected the film with junior quarterback Sean Maguire, not wanting to interrupt, before Winston finally emerged at the end of what was a long a pressure-filled day. It wasn’t out of the ordinary — Winston was generally the first kid in and the last to leave and he never had to be goaded to watch more film — but, under the circumstances, even Moawad was surprised.

“Not enough people understand that side of Jameis,” said Moawad, who has worked extensively with Florida State and Alabama and several pro teams for the past 15 years and is now president of Moawad Consulting Group. “Clearly, the NFL teams did, but nobody outside of that did.

Yea this seems like a guy the whole nation should despise. A player helping an old teammate breakdown spring practice film for 90 minutes in which he was not even a part of. Such a cancer to the locker room and 666 himself.

    Tiny Tim – Great post!

  26. ToesOnTheLine! Says:

Yes Tim off field baggage that has been hashed to death here already…some of it allegation and some of it that led to suspension at FSU for a game, hence my earlier comment of “deserved or not” negative press. Sorry if you’re offended that some fans believe this kid has to earn his accolades first by actually playing at a high level in the NFL as well as proving he’s grown up off the field

  27. Buc1987 Says:

He was nicknamed “Famous Jameis” long before he stepped onto the campus of FSU…and he lived up to that nickname…on the field.

I can’t see how calling him “America’s QB” is adding any pressure to the kid..

Did I mention his nickname has been “Famous Jameis” for a long time?

Well if you want to dwell on a past that may or may not exist as oppose to seeing what is right in front of your eyes then so be it. No need trying to explain it to you any more. Stay in the dark and uneducated with the rest of the folks who let the media influence their way of thinking. I will continue to do what I did in school and what the bucs have done for the past year and a half and that is do my own research to in order to know exactly what I have in Jameis. It will not be a surprise to me when this guy balls out. The uneducated will be surprised and try to come up with an elaborate story as to why he is playing well when there is no elaborate story at all. Its just Jameis being Jameis. Its as simple as that.

I concur man. Although I’m expecting an up and down season because he’s a rookie. It won’t surprise me at all of he plays lights out though.

@BuccaneerBonzai Chip Kelly hated Winston so much he tried to trade up to get him. Would he still be hated if the offer was good enough and he was Philly?
