Schefter/Herm: Winston To Bucs

April 13th, 2015
Both Herm Edwards (above) and Adam Schefter, stated emphatically this evening that barring something unforeseen, Jameis Winston will be drafted by the Bucs with the No. 1 overall pick.

Both Herm Edwards (above) and Adam Schefter stated emphatically this evening that barring something unforeseen, Jameis Winston will be drafted by the Bucs with the No. 1 overall pick.

Joe is telling you, the claim dropped by Yahoo! Sports’ Charles Robinson, that Darcie Glazer Kassewitz, member of Team Glazer and co-president of the Glazer Family Foundation, may put a halt to the Bucs drafting Jameis Winston has left those in the know with their heads spinning.

As one of Joe’s contacts told him tonight, “That may be an all-timer,” as far as wild rumors and the Bucs go.

But it is the silly season, and all of a sudden, it seems as if Marcus Mariota will be drafted No. 1 by the Bucs.

But hold up! Just tonight, ESPN uber NFL insider Adam Schefter and Lovie Smith friend Herm Edwards appeared on ESPN and steadfastly put to rest rumors rumors of Mariota hunting for real estate in the Tampa Bay area.

Barring Jameis Winston holding up a Dairy Queen, he will be your new Bucs quarterback come April 30, Schefter and Herm said, in the video below courtesy of ESPN.com.

(Wasn’t Herm hanging out with Lovie and the Bucs recently? Hhhmm?)

    Bring on the swagger…

    The Chosen One.

The One We’ve Been Waiting For.

    Famous Jameis Winston.

Mitch Sherman – senior writer for ESPN.com
    7/21/2011

“But back to that game-changing first night. Winston sat on his bed, exhausted, and studied the playbook. When Trent Dilfer, the former Super Bowl-winning quarterback who serves as head coach to Elite 11 participants, made a second round of bed checks, he found Winston engulfed in the pages.”

“Dilfer made a note of the time: 1:12 a.m.”

“He manned up,” Dilfer said. “The next day, his eyes were bleeding he was so tired. But he was killing it. He didn’t have to say anything, but his actions told me, ‘Let me show you I’m not just a gifted athlete. I’m a surgeon.’

“I think the kid’s the real deal. I didn’t know ratings going into this. I could care less about the perception. To me, they were all high school quarterbacks. I don’t care how famous they are. He’s earned my respect. If I’m a college coach, I want that guy.”

“Winston gets it at age 17.”

“He’s got this infectious personality,” Dilfer said. “A lot of people use the term leadership, but I like guys who are comfortable in their own skin. That’s Jameis. He came in a little unprepared, and he admitted it. But he’s got a real presence to him. I’ve been real proud of him.”

  3. Dreambig Says:

Smokescreen. Jaws has people more wired in than Herm does. Jaws is closer to the coaching staff as well. Mariota it is. NOT!

  4. Buc1987 Says:

Who wants to make me a bet Winston will be a Buc and what should we wager?

Erik the Clean Genuis is already buying me a Winston jersey…

    Anyone else out there?

    If not…then sthu asap.

  5. cmurda Says:

Winston was the pick a month ago and then we learned …. absolutely nothing. The pick hasn’t and won’t change. It’s Winston and I’m real happy it is.

  6. Charlie7 Says:

I offered to all the Jameis haters at work a $100 bet that the Bucs take him. Lotta mouth , no takers. But they are the same idiots that say Winston will be a bust and out of the NFL in one year. I don’t even have to tell you their football IQ.

  7. Keepitreal Says:

Winston to Bucs… Finley some swagger and confidence. Gotta love it!!

  8. Buc1987 Says:

Perhaps my autographed Derrick Brooks jersey?

    My SB Champs hat?

An autographed picture of me wearing a genuine Bucs SB ring?

    My throwback Bucs flag?

What’ll be boys and many girls?

  9. Florida Hillbilly Says:

  14. snook Says:

The Mariota/flag football crew is panicked. Love it.

    Winston = Luck
    Mariota = RG3

  15. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Buc1987 they talk good but don’t have the heart to bet. They call it trivial to wanna bet,but I say put up or shut the you know what up. People out here acting like they mad them Bucc boys bout to soon reek havoc on this wide open league. All hail the future King of the Bay. Damn a call sign my real name Michael Stevenson I live in Orlando, put ya Got damn money up you me and others are wrong in our belief Famous coming to the Bay. I’m waiting david holla at me.

  16. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Wait one marshalU I assure you them championships will quickly follow WINSton homie.

  17. Buc1987 Says:

I don’t care what Herm Edwards said. I said it and that’s all that matters.

I said it 3 months ago. I’m still saying it. It’s nice that Schefter and Herm have joined my club though. Ha ha!

    Ego anyone?

  18. pick6 Says:

Buc 1987 – i will make you a bet that the bucs don’t draft winston. if i lose i will give you a josh freeman autographed football.

i’m certain the bucs will draft JW, just looking for a way to unload that football. it was a gift, feels better to lose it in a bet than throw it away

  19. Stanglassman Says:

Herm NEVER said that the Bucs would ‘make it to the super Bowl’ last year. I know Joe keeps repeating that he said that but it never happened. What he said was before the Bucs lost their OC actually true because the division was so awful. .

Herm Edwards quote “I’m not sure the Bucs are Super Bowl ready, but I do think they will be one of the league’s most improved teams and will have a shot at the playoffs.”

  20. Waterboy Says:

All of that Mariota to the Bucs talk is silliness. If the Bucs thought that Mariota was even close to Winston on a talent level they wouldn’t have wasted the time or money investigating Winston over the past couple months.

  21. I'm a great person Says:

@I would blow Winston 87 if he let me… You are proving every single second that you really would blow Winston 87 times if he let you.. Keepitreal just knows everything and Tony Dungy knows nothing according to him, but you my friend are in love! Thank God for Winston has smallish hands if you know what I’m saying..

  22. Buc1987 Says:

I’m a great idiot….what is this obsession you have with man-love?

You talk about it like you have such great experience with it all.

Are you always this stupid or are you making a special effort today?

  23. Pawel Says:

I think it’s Winston or a best offer you can’t decline to trade out.

  24. Tampabaybucfan Says:

@87….make sure that jersey is a 3XL…..you will need it to cover your gloat!!!

    I’m happy for you….

  25. Keepitreal Says:

@87..I’m a great idiot is just a little miffed that his boy MM is not a consideration. Do you have school tomorrow little fella. Short bus will be there in the morning. No joke, how old are you 13?

  26. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

A all y’all coming at Buc1987 can eat a fat d@$!. Seeing how some of y’all seem to infatuated with that type of thing.

  27. The Real Malloy Says:

while I remain a MM backer, I will admit I saw the special with Chucky….i do like this kids swagger..

  28. I'm a great person Says:

@I would blow Winston 87 times if he let me. You really hate getting the tables flipped on you don’t you? Listen, I’m stupid yes! According to you everyone who is keeping their mind open two both players being good players must be stupid right? So yes, I’m stupid. According to you and keepitreal everyone who thinks differently is an idiot.

  29. Keepitreal Says:

    @ I’m a great idiot. No just you…

  30. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Lets just get this over with….if you’re going to draft him….lets sign him…take away all the anxiety…..get an agreement from him to go to Chicago….fly his family up there and do it right….
We want this to be as normal of an occurence as possible….

  31. port richey george Says:

I saw Ron Jaworski( jaws) this afternoon on espn tv sportscenter. he explained in detail why he liked mariota. he said the bucs have not done anything to the o-line in the offseason and that would favor a mobile mariota. mariota has a lightening fast release. Winston long slow release. DB’s will be able to pick Winston off easier than the college DB’s did quite successfully. he also said the 0-Coordinator of the bucs has a lot of experience with spread offense QB’s. he also showed video of both guys explaining those flaws and others that apply to Winston.

  32. port richey george Says:

espn tv sportscenter this afternoon showed a comparison video from their sports science lab of mariota and Winston. mariota’s release was lightening fast and powerful compared to Winston’s. accuracy about the equal. same with distance. Winston’s mechanics needed improvement. mariota needed to work on his footwork when he left the pocket.

  33. tval Says:

@ the real malloy, even i, one of the biggest fans of jameis, remain a huge supporter of marcus. I just give his so called fans, who just want any opportunity to bash jameis, a hard time. Thats their only remaining ‘out’, comparing his image to st marcus.. 🙂 i think in the shadow of marcus’s sterling off field image jameis’s on field excellence and off the field reputation have suffered far more than he ever deserved.

  34. Keepitreal Says:

    Sorry, it’s Winston

  35. Keepitreal Says:

Mm is a great person to be sure and he might end up being a good player, but I’m tired of all this politically correct Sh!t and unproven allegations. Don’t get me started on BB gun, soda in ketchup cup crap. We need a football player with swag and leadership. Even if their is a risk… Theirs risk in every pick. Lift up your dresses and grow some balls. Better to take a swing and hit a homer rather than a bunt for possable single.

  36. Snook Says:

This franchise hasn’t had any attitude since Sapp left… another “questionable” character.

No one seemed to care about Sapp being who he is when he was leading our top defense back in the 90s/early 2000s….

  37. BFFL Says:

How about this 1987…I’ll bet you that Mariota wins a Super Bowl and Winston wins a crab leg eating contest.

  38. Keepitreal Says:

    BFFL… Keep your day job.

  39. BFFL Says:

@tval…the Eagles scouts were talking about Bryan Bennett not Mariota…nice try

  40. I'm a great person Says:

@keepitreal. My bad, I forget, according to you, you know more about football than Tony Dungy. I would be happy to go back and forth calling each other idiots, but the proof is in the pudding. You know more than Dungy. LMAO!!!!!!!!! What’s next? You’re a better baseball manager than Joe Madden? Stupid is what stupid does and you stupid as hell kid…

    That’s what ek said

  42. Keepitreal Says:

@ I’m a great idiot. I can’t talk to you..if I keep responding to your dumb a$$ it reflects badly on me. Your whats known as the Village Idiot of JBF. So get you scrawny a$$ in bed before your mom yells at you and let the grown ups talk.

  43. Keepitreal Says:

@im an idiot… One last thing. I think your the only one on this site hell in Tampa that thinks Dungy is a good evaluator of the QB position. Oh well, theirs always one.

  44. I'm a great person Says:

@keepitreal. He’s a better evaluater than you! And that’s been the point from the beginning. You’re too stupid to realize what you initially said. You’re a joke! You sit on here and preach all this football knowledge you think you have and try to call out a Hall of fame finalist as having less knowledge than you. You may not understand how stupid ypu actually sound and feel untouchable because you have 87 around to wipe your snot from your nose for you. You my friend in the circles of real sports fans are considered a moron! I’m actually tired of destroying you on this subject. I now drop the mic! You and 87 have fun wiping each others chins from Winston’s remains up until the draft.

  45. Keepitreal Says:

Go to bed now little fella… Everything will be ok in the morning. You’ll still be a dumb a$$, but nothing we can do about that. Tell your mom I said hello

  46. Dreambig Says:

Port Richie – are you deliberately making up your own version of ESPN sports science or is your comprehension that challenged? Sports science opened with Winstons accuracy setting him apart from high school. They then highlight his accuracy for 40-50 yards away indicating how later accurate his throws are. They then talk about his weakness is his mechanics, particularly his throwing motion, but they point out he was 10% improved at the combine. They then switch to Mariota and talk about how he already has a fast release but his accuracy goes down dramatically when he is not throwing to his first read. In fact his accuracy drops by 25%. They speculate that is because when he moves around the pocket he does not set his feet before throwing. How in the world do you translate that into their accuracy is basically the same.

  47. Dreambig Says:

Sports science then goes on to compare Mariota with Manziel and Winston to Rothlesberger. They then predict they will both struggle based on the 5 current Hiesman winning QBs in the NFL, none of which have career winning records.

“Port Richie – are you deliberately making up your own version of ESPN sports science or is your comprehension that challenged?”

    I can answer that.

    Challenged.

  49. JMan Says:

    @Keep it real

Did you really just useven a joke about nailing so eons mother? (The implication is there)

Pathetic. Please don’t call others idiots anymore. It doesn’t carry much wEight. Hope that false alpha male bravado lefthe over from high school keeps you company onot all those lonely nights.

    Now I’m done.

  50. Dreambig Says:

In his favor, selective listening can be an advantage, particularly when married.

  51. jman Says:

Use* someone’s* left (not left the)* on*

  52. Keepitreal Says:

Jmann… That was not my intention. You have to use small blunt word to get through to I’m a good person. I look forword to your church social.

  53. SAMCRO Says:

I wonder what kind of impact it could have on the Glazer decision if all who are against Winston being rewarded with the #1 pick were to get together and picket OBP? That would worry a bunch of people, I’m sure. Make sure that Darcie Glazer Kassewitz is there to take it all in. I also wonder how much that billboard cost for 2 weeks?

Like the late great Bob Marley said, Stir it up!

  54. Buc1987 Says:

TBBF….lol I won’t gloat when his name is called. I’m just having fun with this last remaining MM to the Bucs fans. Like toying with them ya know?

They see the need to talk about the future QB of the Jets…Mariota. So I’ll continue to toy with them. Some of them are really ignorantly slow people. I don’t know what it’s going to take for them to accept the game is over when it comes to Mariota. I guess April 30th will do it for them.

With some of the more intelligent, adamant MM supporters the light bulb came on about a week ago or maybe more. NOT these buffoons though. Joe calls them knuckledraggers. I just call them slow. We have a lot slow people in Florida. I’ve lived in quite a few states so I can compare.

Oh well see ya tomorrow… slow ones. I can’t wait to hear more about Mariota’s skills some more tomorrow and the next day. Go and tell the Jets fans, I’m sure they’ll be thrilled!

  55. BUC IT Says:

Its just such a tough call to me. I could see Winston being great but I could also see him be a perennial starter that never becomes a top tier guy. In that case I wouldn’t want him. The off field issues are still a bit of a concern but he is just so intelligent. So I just have to think he can stay out of trouble….I think. I like that he is confident but I don’t like how brash he is.
On the other side..I really like how humble Mariota is. Although being humble its very obvious he has plenty of confidence in himself as well. I just think he is probably going to work harder and study more than Winston. He is a good size and extremely fast and very accurate qb. The only knock on him is playing in such a weird offense. As a GM and coach…you really need your blinders on because everything is a smoke screen in the league. They need to just pick the best overall player whoever it is but I’m not sure its as lopsided as the media has acted like.

  56. Stanglassman Says:

Dreambig- I thought the same thing regarding PRGeorge sports science depiction. I couldn’t believe that’s what he got out of that show. JW .41 release Vs MM .38 release, and accuracy about the same? Too funny. They acually said Jameis was extremely accurate and MM not so much. They ended with the QB comparison, Winston was like Big Ben and Mariota was like Johny football.

  57. Buc1987 Says:

And another thing….don’t hate me because I’m beautiful!

    Good night gents.

  58. grafikdetail Says:

yep! herm has no idea what he’s talkin about LOL

  59. Stanglassman Says:

Buc it- I don’t think it’s as close as the media has acted like. What makes you think Marcus M. is accurate?(read Dreambig comments #46) Make makes you think you think Mariota will work harder the Jameis? Jameis is known to be a extremely dedicated to film study in Baseball and Football. It’s more than a weird offense, it’s one that doesn’t ask the QB to do all the things that are necessary to be successful QB in the NFL. In other words drafting him would be extremely risky. They would be drafting a great athlete that has a few skills as QB and hoping he could learn to do the rest.

  60. grafikdetail Says:

Winston = Big Ben; Mariota = Johny Manziel

  61. Josh P. Says:

If anyone at ESPN had any kind of inside info of what Lovie is thinking i would probably go with the guy that is one of his closest friends…

  62. bucs 84 Says:

Why does winston refer himself in the third person?

  63. bucs 84 Says:

    Yall just birds chirpen…

  64. Roland Says:

What will the Glazer’s really have to say?
Say you got accused of rape… And your 2 of your friends had a video of you during the act… And then after the investigation started your lawyer had your friends delete the video that could exonerate you… You don’t think people of a logically mindset might assume you were guilty of something?
And keep in mind the smarmy duplicitous lawyer, or even your friends may have retained a copy… And keep in mind the the 40,000 or so guys who had Edward Snowden’s job also probably have access to that video… Who thinks there isn’ a small chance TMZ doesn’t slip someone 100,00K for a copy?
If I’m Brain or Joel there is no chance I’m handing you a check for 15 Million. Zero.
But hey, these are the same brothers who hired/promoted Dom and let him hire Rah and Schiano…

  65. Just draft a QB already Says:

If the Bucs were going to draft Mariota they would of signed him already!

  66. Jimmy Sunday Says:

The best part of the page is the lawyer add under the header. Great place for the promo. Especially like the ‘Defending Your Family’. It is amusing that Mariota is covered in warts and Jameis has none. Don’t confuse me with the facts. Fact: Zero interest in other teams for Jameis until Bucs made it known they may take Mariota. One must ask why would we take someone number one overall that 31 other teams would not. And what is truly comical is when comments speak of Mariota like he barely made the JV team and never had a winning season. If Winston is YOUR choice…fine. But, don’t pretend Mariota is not, nor will be a great player.

  67. BlackjesusWin-Nasty Says:

16 days and i black Jesus will rise once again #5 win-nasty

    CRAB LEGS FOR ALL!

  68. BB Christina Says:

Dont get it twisted!!!! The reason “all those teams” supposedly want Mariota is because they know like any other rational person Winston will be a Buccaneer!! #gimmethatbet #teamwinston #nomorelames #sickofboring

  69. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

I’ll say it again, they don’t have the heart to bet. They and extreme amount of energy to run they’re mouths. That’s about all.

  70. Brandon Says:

Barring Jameis Winston holding up a Dairy Queen, he will be your new Bucs quarterback come April 30
