Phillip Dorsett In Round 3?

The pride of St. Petersburg, former Bucs quarterback and current Yahoo! Sports NFL analyst Shaun King, sees Tampa Bay looking to get more explosive on Day 2 of the draft.
This might trouble another one of St. Pete’s finest, Bucs wide receiver Louis Murphy. But Joe’s not worried about their potential spat.
Twittering yesterday, King spit out a seven-round Buccaneers mock draft. He’s got the Bucs drafting Miami wide receiver Phillip Dorsett with the first overall pick of the third round.
Dorsett is a speed merchant and second-team, All-ACC selection, with 36 catches and 10 touchdowns last year. Per the Miami Herald, NFL Network draft guru Mike Mayock raved about Dorsett after his Pro Day earlier this month.
“For me, the star of the day was Phillip Dorsett, a kid who didn’t have to do anything because he performed so well at the combine. What did he do today? Comes out, runs a 4.25… jumps 38 inches, 10-9 broad jump, and then looked fantastic catching the football and getting in and out of breaks. Phillip Dorsett had an outstanding day.”
Joe might vomit if the Bucs make this pick. Nothing against Dorsett, but this would be a luxury selection for a team with all kinds of hardcore needs.
Keep in mind many draft analysts believed running back Charles Sims, last year’s third-round pick, could play slot receiver at the NFL level. His hands and route running were that good.
There’s only one football, and with Vincent Jackson and Mike Evans, plus a tight end expected to be a massive contributor, 2014 second-round pick Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Joe just can’t see how the Bucs go here. Drafting Dorsett also would equate to giving up on clone Robert Herron, last year’s sixth-round pick. The regime is unlikely to do that.
Load up on offensive linemen and defensive talent after drafting a quarterback. This should not be a complicated draft for Tampa Bay.

I personally would love this pick, an additional offensive weapon, he would be the only player that could go the distance anytime, he was underutilized at the U. Ask Jameis Winston, he benefitted by Miami not throwing the ball to him in the second half against FSU. I know there are others needs, but imagine the possibility of scoring 30 in any game, ijs

Hey, Joe, how come we didn’t see an article on how NIKE signed a deal with Mariota as well?
According to ESPN’s Darren Rovell, Nike has signed Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston, Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota, Georgia running back Todd Gurley, Alabama wide receiver Amari Cooper and Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon to endorsement contracts.
Great question: Considering the headline of the post was “Jameis Watch,” think you have your answer. Joe has been writing about Winston daily since November, when the Bucs were still in the playoff hunt. Mariota’s marketability has never been questioned. Pick Jamison Crowder in the 5th round, and focus on O lineman in at least 2 of the 3 preceding rounds. Crowder has slot and kick return abilities.

Something is seriously wrong if King really thinks Dorsett will be available in the 3rd… I’d be running to the podium to hand in the card if that was the case for the Bucs. For those saying WR isn’t a position of need I ask this simple question.. If Vjax or Evans were to miss time who the hell are we are gonna start? If you respond with any of our remaining WR you lose instant credibility as someone who knows absolutely anything about football. Is it as big of need as our piss poor O-line? No. But it’s damn close.
I guess because it’s called Jameis Watch you can’t include all the facts or its too hard to add one line saying the other players who also signed deals at the same time.. Makes complete sense..
Are you trying to imply a difference of 5 spots makes or break whether you are marketable or not? I really hope not.

Dorsett would bbe too good to pass up with that pick. Gotta pick best player available Joe. And Jackson’s days are numbered so we need to start thinking about who is going to replace him. We need a lineman in the 2nd…but I would love to see us take Dorsett, Rashad Greene, or Tyler Lockett in the 3rd.

I agree that OLine has to be the focus of this draft after Winston. Have to get at least 2 good OLine players in rounds 2>4. That does leave 1 of those higher picks to go elsewhere with. Whether DE, MLB, WR, RB or Safety
Sometimes you just HAVE to go BPA regardless of position if you believe you are getting a great player for that spot’s value. Getting excellent football players on your team regardless of what position they play is the overall goal and will lead to winning. There are very few spots on the Bucs roster that could not use a potential star upgrade.
If Bucs go WR with pick #3 – I would much prefer to see Rashad Greene whose production of just under 4000 yards at FSU more than doubled that of Phillip Dorsett. + there’s that QB/WR receiver familiarity thing to consider.
Winston to Evans and Greene could be one of the best QB/WR set ups in the NFL for many years to come. Pretty well duplicates what the Noles had in 2013 with Winston, Benjamin and Greene. That worked out pretty well. 🙂

If you are going to spend a 3rd on a wr, make sure he can return kicks. Tyler Locket can. Besides only a 2nd team ACC. If Jameis threw against ACC talent and gets mocked, than he should of been 1st team.

I also don’t believe Dorsett will be there in the 3rd. If so, I would be happy if we grabbed him. We still should go QB, LT,DE, then RG…then Safety,WR/KR, CB, and RB.

We all know the Bucs have much more pressing needs but if Dorsett is available in the 3rd then you have to take him. He could be the next TY Hilton and VJax isnt going to be around for much longer.
But with that said, Dorsett being available in the 3rd is a pipe dream.
