Cutler Horror Scenario Peddled At NFL.com

April 27th, 2015

CutlerMcCown

Despite all Joe’s excitement about Jameis Winston, unpredictable Lovie Smith is still the Bucs’ overlord of football operations.

That means nothing from Lovie would surprise Joe. Heck, Lovie thought Josh McCown could lead the Bucs to the promised land, and he thought his two-win team was “on the verge.”

Those stunning facts still give Joe chills.

Another thing giving Joe chills is the speculation at NFL.com that Lovie might look to the quarterback who led his Bears to the NFC Championship game in 2010: bratty Jay Cutler.

Marc Sessler says it’s a deal he’d like to see.

Bears swing megadeal for Tampa’s No. 1

“This trade allows the Bucs to build deep into the future while giving us a veteran quarterback we believe in. Jay Cutler can take us where we need to go.” – Lovie Smith, Thursday night

Chicago wants to start over at quarterback. So do the Bucs. That leads Bears general manager Ryan Pace to pick up the phone and offer Tampa a slew of picks — this year’s seventh overall selection and next year’s first and second — to move up six spots into No. 1. Chicago also throws in Matt Forte (with one year left on his deal) and Jay Cutler.

The upshot: John Fox and Adam Gase land their young quarterback of the future in Jameis Winston while Lovie strolls down a familiar path: fawning over veterans from his time with the Bears. For a team with so many needs, though, the trade gives Tampa plenty of ammunition to build with.

The crazy thing is Joe is confident about 15 percent of Bucs fans reading this trade proposal would be giddy if the Bucs made such a deal.

These fans would be all jacked up at the thought of Cutler’s arrival along with three premium draft picks.

And people wonder why Joe drinks.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUK! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! No BIATCH boy zone!

  3. Buc1987 Says:

    lol Joe

  4. ATrain Says:

    Deal

But we need 1st and 2 and pick this year and next

Cutler , Forte, and Montgomery or Allen

    Do it Bucs…!!!

  5. WS99 Says:

Joe stop it before you make me cry. All kidding aside this is not completely out of the realm of possibilities. Remember last year the bengals and the pats were our trade buddies and this year we already made one transaction with Chicago. Plus, John Fox ain’t stupid he knows he can’t win with cutler.

  6. tmaxcon Says:

    Joe,

If I maybe so bold as to ask a small favor, Would you please stop using overlord of football operations when speaking of Lovie Smith. Bonzi says it’s not so and that Lovie does not have final say on all moves. Therefore, you are misleading your loyal readers. It has to be true if Bonzi says it’s all Licht’s fault and not Loives.

  7. The original "Kevin" Says:

Id rather throw up in a giant bowl the morning after drinking a handle of wild turkey and then mix it into an omlet and eat it for breakfast than have that sorry ass little brat come to tampa. Dont even joke about this he would have to have a police escort into the stadium and practice facility everyday. Whoever thinks this is a good idea should be hung with barb wire wrapped in a wench

  8. WalkdaPlank Says:

The scary part is I can see Lovie taking that deal. But I doubt the Glazers would approve, especially with Cutler’s gigantic contract that he clearly doesn’t deserve.

  9. WS99 Says:

    Kevin

    What you said. Ditto

  10. tmaxcon Says:

    ATraim

So you are ok with a quarterback that is a proven AHOLE and has been run out of Denver and is about to be run out of Chicago yet Winston is an issue. Wow talking about no credibility. You are obviously about the hate agenda and not the team.

  11. WS99 Says:

Do we have enough so room to have forte and Peterson in the same backfield? How fckn awesome would that be?

  12. Bucs fan in Chicago Says:

No. No way. Please no! I would possibly become a Bears fan, and I do not want to do that.

  13. Howard Cosell Says:

Cue the theme music to Jaws

  14. WS99 Says:

Hahaha this is possibly. The first article in months that will have the entire bucsplanet in agreement. “Hell to da nah”

  15. port richey george Says:

jay cutler’s contract is guaranteed 18 million a year the first 3 years since 2014. jameis would be extremely cheap compared to cutler. there is a slot amount for the top draft pick.
besides I think pete and shorty’s have already planned on adding the jameis Winston burger to their menu. they would have to reprint all their new menus.

  16. Howard Cosell Says:

Well if McCown didn’t work out then that means that Cutler WILL!
Right? Right? I mean its simple f**kin logic here man.

  17. WS99 Says:

Cutler isn’t worth 8mil much less 18mil per year. #ludacris

  18. The Don Says:

    wtf did i just read

  19. WS99 Says:

    Howard

Rotf. In the mind of lovie smith, yes that is absolutely correct. Ay vey

  20. ATrain Says:

    Tmaxx..

Right back to ya.. Why do you care about him being an ahole if he plays well.

Also I’m looking at all the picks and players.
This team Will Not Change on one player.
You like Winston and are sold on him good for you, I’m not.
Cutler can win with these receivers if given a line.
3 top picks added to our draft and Forte with a veteran center or DE.(if you read the whole post).
We would be crazy to pass up what I wrote as a trade.

As for Winston I have said many times drop the off field stuff

What worries me about Winston is the Giant Ego, He is very Young, and a millions in his pocket. A concern not a fact..

You tell me Cutler, Forte, with Allen and 1st,2nd picks this and next year wouldn’t be worth it..Please

  21. WS99 Says:

    ATrain

    I’d rather have mclown back.

  22. tmaxcon Says:

    Atrian,

Right back to ya.. Why do you care about him being an ahole if he plays well.

Because Cutler has already proven on the field HE CAN NOT PLAY WELL nor consistent… that’s why teams run him out of town… his own teammates hate him. You guys are so concerned with character yet he passes the test wow. raise your standards and stop settling for other teams garbage, injured players and prove it deal players you sound too much like Lovie the idiot smith.

  23. tmaxcon Says:

    Atrain

and winstons GIANT EGO is exactly why he wll be successful and make the players around him better which is something the bucs have never had at qb…. his ego is an asset not detriment. The IT factor matters and those who disagree never played team sports.

  24. ATrain Says:

    Tmaxx

To add I would not trade 1st for current trade offer I would take the risk on Winston..

Not a hater but not a Blind follower questions surround him

  25. Brian D. Says:

NOBODY will trade ANYTHING for Jay Cutler right now…NOBODY. He is a cancer. Lovie and Licht just ran a few cancerous heartless bums out of here, you think they’re dumb enough to bring it the king of the cancerous heartless bums?

  26. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Damn, Philly is rumored to be giving up

    (Player Compensation)
    • 91 Fletcher Cox DE 24 6-4 300 4 Mississippi State
    • 95 Mychal Kendricks LB 24 6-0 240 4 California

    +

    (Draft Pick Compensation)
    • 19 Cleveland (From a potential Sam Bradford Trade)
    • 20 Philadelphia

…..For the #2. Can only imagine, what they would have to give up for #1.

  27. tmaxcon Says:

    Atrian

I am not a blind follower either that being said I feel Jamies’s energy and fire is exactly what the bucs need besides a real head coach that is. I have said all along people have every right to be skeptical of winson he brought it on himself that being said these idiots who continue with the rape bs and russell comments are just getting so tiresome.

  28. ATrain Says:

What Greats today in the NFL have a Giant Ego.

    Manning No..

    Rodgers No

Bree’s No..Leaders make people better Giant Egos worry about themselves.

It won’t matter what I say You See one thing Winston

You did miss the other parts of the trade but Blind Love that I keep talking about

  29. jfat Says:

This deal seems better without Cutler being involved.

  30. you can't fix it Says:

You Winston lovers crack me up !!First you say how bad Mccown is and Glenn too, Then you say we need o-line and more players to help Wintson , Come on,,, What are you saying Winston needs help or is Winston the bad !!! I think Mccown and Glenn needed help too don’t you agree.. If they had the kind of help your talking about they would of been better quarter backs and we wouldn’t need Winston at all……. HELL, WE COULD BE GETTING A D/E RIGHT !!

  31. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    (Defensive Line)
    • LDE George Johnson William Gholston
    • LDT Gerald McCoy Henry Melton Akeem Spence
    • RDT Fletcher Cox Clinton McDonald
    • RDE Jacquies Smith Larry English

    (Linebackers)
    • WLB Lavonte David Orie Lemon
    • MLB Mychal Kendricks Danny Lansanah
    • SLB Bruce Carter Jason Williams

    Not a bad look

  32. ATrain Says:

Tmaxx I haven’t said anything about Russell because there is no comparing those two unless I missed something.
The Rape thing I said its 50-50 and I wasn’t there so I don’t speak of it..

I agree with you Haters just throw out junk..

I go back to I questions on him Which I believe are valid.

Also I will lump the I will leave crew and be a Deadfins fan.
Go then. Buc Fans Only need debate.

  33. Underdog Says:

Thanks Joe. You just made me throw up in my mouth a little. I would LOVE to see the Bucs trade that #1 pick, but not for Cutler

  34. Buc1987 Says:

you can’t fix it ….Winston IS the pick.

    Deal with it.

  35. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

I’d take Winston huge ego over Cutler’s no heart. Dude does not care about winning or losing. At all. Does nothing to elevate those around him.

Denver had zero QBs and let him go, neither does Chicago, what does that tell you?

  36. Bucs#1 Says:

ABW – Anybody But Winston – Trade The Pick

  37. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Shane Ray = DUMA$$. However if he drops to 34, do we draft him? Busted for Maryjane this morning.

  38. Gator that loves the Bucs Says:

There is not a universe that I would like to see Cutler in a Buc’s uni unless it included the next three first round picks along with a couple twos.

  39. Buc1987 Says:

They didn’t lose the last game of the season on purpose, to just tarde the pick away…how this escapes some of you is beyond me, but hey this is JBF.

  40. tmaxcon Says:

    ATrain

I was not directing rape or russell comments at you at you . I know you are moderate we have different philosophies and views on winston but that aint nothing…

as far as the other guys forte is hitting that 30 or has hit thirty he has had a very heavy workload so he does not excite me long term. maybe if bucs were a playoff team but they are far from that.

  41. LUVMYBUCS Says:

No matter what they do on draft day.

We’re still gonna cheer our Bucs

  42. BucFanForever Says:

    Not enough, but close.

  43. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @Buc1987

Its all about Leverage buddy-Simple as that

  44. Gator that loves the Bucs Says:

No Way!!! Shane Ray was busted for weed?

  45. Gator that loves the Bucs Says:

I see nothing on google Scotty .

  46. ATrain Says:

    Go Bucs!!!!

    Fans Be Fans

Because Truely if we really knew what to do an were absolutely right We would be picking for the Bucs

  47. ATrain Says:

And to be Truthful don’t really want Cutler.

I want Allen and Forte with four draft picks..but that wouldn’t happen..

Really want some Line Bad Azz Players

  48. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Google or Yahoo Shane Ray…top of the page.

  49. R.O. Says:

Randy Gregory… Shane Ray… You all would be having hissy fits if it was JW. JW will be fine off the field. I’m hoping he becomes a good to great QB. I’m tired of $hity QB play.

  50. Gator that loves the Bucs Says:

Wow this is interesting. A ESPN Insider article surveyed all 32 GMs as to who they would take at no. 1
    The results

    Leonard Williams: 17 teams

    Jameis Winston: Five teams

    Marcus Mariota: Five teams

    Dante Fowler Jr.: Five teams

  51. JMN Says:

No thanks. Don’t want a QB that gives up when things don’t go his way. And that is in his track history.

  52. Islandbucsfan Says:

Dumbest trade EVER!!! Trade our 2nd for rivers, and let the 1st pick simmer with a clip board like A-A-Ron did behind farce.

  53. Islandbucsfan Says:

    Farve

  54. Gator that loves the Bucs Says:

Yeah Scotty. Now I see a bunch. The earliest was 36 minutes ago

  55. Yungry Says:

Winston or Cutler is interception mania! I’d rather take my chance with Winston than this cry baby… Draft Mariota and hold him for ransom, until we get an offer we can’t refuse between the Chargers, Browns, Jets and the rest of the pack…

  56. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @Islandbucsfan

Thanks for sharing your opinion buddy. We appreciate your feed back

  57. ATrain Says:

OK I have to change my mind..No Cutler y’all are right poison in the locker room. Nothing is worth poison in locker room..

  58. Gator that loves the Bucs Says:

Im not sure if I am happy or not with the Shane Ray thing. Now he will probably be available at no. 34 but I wanted OL at 34………….Scheise!!!

“This trade allows the Bucs to build deep into the future while giving us a veteran quarterback we believe in. Jay Cutler can take us where we need to go.” – Lovie Smith, Thursday night

Joe…where did this quote from Lovie Smith come from?….I can’t find it anywhere….you are saying he actually said this…Thursday Night…..what Thursday night?

    This is very decieving…..

  61. Erik the WiseMMan Says:

Either way, Winston has been compared (very fairly and somewhat destroy, IMO) to Cutler… Mariota is the superior prospect.

  62. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    So…I get it….you are pre-quoting Lovie Smith……what a slick piece of work…..

  66. tortured orlando bucs fan Says:

Ive put up with a lot as a bucs fan over the years (as has everyone else here)….but jay cutler to the bucs would be the last straw….if this happens im buying some dolphins gear and passionately cheering against the bucs til the qb gm and hc are fired

  67. Howard Cosell Says:

Licht & Lovie: “So what kind of a deal did you guys have in mind?”

Pace & Trestman: “Please Lovie. Please Jason. For the love all that’s
holy please take Cutler. We’re begging you man. Please, we’ll give
you anything you want as long as the deal includes the Bucs taking
Jay Culter somewhere far far away from Chicago.”

    Licht & Lovie: “Hmmm…sounds interesting”

  68. Yungry Says:

I want Forte but not if Cutler comes with him… Everyone knows this is the worst contract in the NFL…

  69. Tampabaybucfan Says:

What is scary is that we have the cap space for Cutler’s 18M……

I would think that this deal would be more suited for Tenn….with Cutler from Vandeerbilt…..but Tenn would have to work out some space for him or he would have to restructure…

Just don’t see this happening….throw in a #2 pick this year also and it would be tempting….that would give us 3 #!s and 4# 2s in 2015-16

  70. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    @tmaxcon

Hey, stupid. It’s not hard to figure out. You seem to be under the impression that Lovie Smith works out trade deals, makes offers and negotiates contracts.

He does none of those, so when you blame things like that on Lovie, you expose yourself as ignorant.

And when an ignorant person lashes out at random like you do, you further advance the notion.

Here’s how it is, just so you can be educated.

Last year, Lovie Smith was hired first. He was a premium head coach and the Glazers gave him plenty of say…probably more than normal. Jason Licht was hired, and Lovie says, “I want to turn this team around fast. We need to fill holes quick.”

Jason Licht says, “Well, Lovie, in order to spend a bunch of money, we’ll have to get rid of our biggest contracts.”

Love responds by saying, “Do what you have to, but McCoy and Favid stay, and I want Josh McCown.”

Jason Licht gets rid of Revis and one of the highest paid, under performing offensive line, brings in McCown as requested, and then sets out to fill the holes he has created to make cap room.

Get real, tmaxcon, do you really think Lovie Smith sought out Mankins? Or EDS? He’s a defensive coach. With McCown he had familiarity, so he wanted him. But be smart here.

And Jason Lost himself said a couple months ago that he was to blame for the bad signings last year. He ADMITTED IT!

Grow up, go to school, and become a real man. Cause you ain’t big enough to play with this man.

  71. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

    Latest odds from Bovada

2015 NFL DRAFT – Who will be the #1 Selection
    10:58p

    Jameis Winston

    -1500

    Marcus Mariota

    +600

    Any Other Player

    +1500

If you understand odds, you realize what a MASSIVE longshot Mariota or anyone besides Winston is.

  72. buddha Says:

Football outsiders, the most authoritative statistical resource for predicting players stats rates Winston as a 62 per cent probability of becoming g a bust and only a 3 per cent chance of becoming elite. Mariota has the highest probability of success by a wide margin. You can believe Joe who has failed year after year at identifying the top prospects or Football outziders, which has a great record of identifying future stars. Tampa is ab I ut to make a choice that likely will set the franchise back for the next decade.

  73. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

On topic, I would not be against having Cutler in Tampa. BUT, I would not gie up that first rounder for that lowly price.

    I would want a 1st and 2nd and Cutler this year, and a 1st 2nd and 3rd next year.

Don’t forget, Cutler has a big contract. So we would need compensation for taking that on.

  74. Clodhopper Says:

Why is when a writer writes a “thing I’d like to see” article, it involves the Bucs being stupid and getting fckt?

Actually, both are illegal. So your point is not valid.

Personally, I’m all for the prohibition. To me, alcohol is one of the worst drugs out there, resulting in more deaths and abuse than any other.

Outlaw it and I would be exceedingly happy.

However, two wrongs don’t make a right. Legalizing pot is wrong.

  76. Stanglassman Says:

The Bucs will draft Shane Ray if he drops to them @ 34 unless one of the top OT happen to fall. It just sucks that T. Jackson history hopefully Sapp’s overshadow it.

No thanks to the Cutler trade.

  77. Erik the WiseMMan Says:

    Aww, man typos….

    L & WD,

I definitely agree with you about having Winston’s ego over no heart from Cutler. I still greatly prefer the electric skillset of Mariota.

  78. unbelievable Says:

Joe I would say about 0.7% of Bucs fans would be excited about that deal.

Cutler might be more up and down than any other QB in the league. But his attitude is hot garbage 100% of the time. They would need to throw in more than 2 high drafts picks for our #1 this year, even with Cutler & Forte.

I’ll take the unknown of JW over the known of Cutler any day.

  79. unbelievable Says:

@Bonzai why is legalizing it wrong? It has a myriad of helpful, healing abilities in addition to the high people enjoy from it. You can not overdose from it, and it is not physically addictive. You could NOT say the same for the majority of ‘legal’ drugs that are pushed by pharmecuetical companies.

I’ll agree with you that alcohol is certainly one of the most destructive substances out there.

  80. Connor Says:

Cutler is not even that bad of a quarterback. People exaggerate so much about him. He’d be 10x better than anything we’ve had in recent years.

  81. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

History has shown prohibition does not work. Show me something illegal and I will show you a guy who can get it. Trying to remove something from the market just makes it more tantalizing and solely gives profits to real criminals who cater to black markets. The Cartels are already taking hits from the legal and medicinal states who grow domestically.

I will take the freedom of choosing what to put in my body over letting politicians and Big Gov. letting lobbyi$ts run the show.

And Licht maybe negotiating deals but lovie has final say and should stop them that’s what a responsible leader does. Lovie wants full control he mist accept full responsibility

  85. Stanglassman Says:

    @Conner
Overall I would agree with you re: Cutler but the 2nd half of last year he was pretty bad. His last 7 games he had 12 TD 11 Int and he did lose 9 of the last 12 games.

  86. Dom Says:

Couldn’t imagine any Bucs fan thinking that’s a good idea

  87. mac Says:

I would be fine with trading back and rebuilding this crap roster… We need a pass rush, several offensive lineman, strong and free safeties, a slot receiver, kick returner, linebacker and a better running back…

I’m not that thrilled about Cutler but I’m not completely in love with either Winston or Mariota…

  88. Andrew 1 Says:

Please, absolutely NO to Cutler. There are so many bad things I can say about that guy, but I’m not going to go there, other than to say he is not a team player and leave it at that. I’m all for drafting Winston, but I’d rather have Mariota than Cutler.

spending 18 million a year that is guaranteed for the next 2 years on cutler sounds pretty expensive in todays QB market. especially for a guy that the bears benched last year for stinking on the field. this was an interesting scenario presented by nfl.com. based on the cap on each position in the 1st round jameis Winston would be much cheaper. besides I was looking forward to having the jameis Winston burger at pete and shorty’s. I don’t think I would buy a jay cutler burger…LOL

  95. ChrisTheTruBucFan Says:

Life of me this trade scenario scares the crap out of me! I am not on that percentage of Bucs fan that would be happier or Giddy over Jay Cutler trade. there’s not enough pics, should I say to make this trade worth anything. we have enough running backs and I would need more than one pick in this years draft plus next years first, second and still that wouldn’t make me as excited as the thought of Jameis throwing the skin too our Dunkaneers!

  96. Luther Says:

@WS99 I had to look it up and do it first…google gravatar and should be top link

  97. Gator N Bucs Says:

  99. LargoBuc Says:

    No

  100. The True Buc Fan Says:

I do not want to trade down, but if that was offered, you have to do it. You have too.

  101. Phil Says:

They better draft Jameis. We need a quarterback that can win games and Jameis is the guy.

  102. shastada Says:

Would need more than this years 1/2 and next years 1 before I’d consider it. I would say Cutlers inclusion in the deal is negative value and therefore they need more picks to compensate us for taking him off their hands.

  103. pick6 Says:

perhaps if gruden were still in charge i could see the cutler or rivers trades being a serious option. to pull off a move like that you must be confident that you’ve got what it takes to allow that veteran to play at the highest level they have in their career. otherwise, that guy has a ceiling that is not high enough for the team he is currently leading, so why would he be the answer for a less talented team that is further from a superbowl?

  104. JFF Says:

LOL so much irony here again. Joe doesn’t even realize Winston’s best case pro comparison is Jay Cutler. You’ll be drinking yourself to death soon Joe, but first please return to this site to concede defeat and eat a juicy plate of crow.

But I know you won’t because you’ll just make excuses to suit your narrative and wait until the next controversial QB comes around so you can make a fool of yourself for the sake of ad revenue again.

  105. BringBucsBack Says:

What’s the likelihood of Mariota still being there at #7?
