Bobby Rainey Hangs With Jameis Winston

April 2nd, 2015

bobby rainey 1102The Mike Glennon Mob isn’t going to like this: Bucs running back Bobby Rainey says he “would love to play with” Jameis Winston.

It turns out Rainey, who has a new one-year contract from the Buccaneers, was called to “Gruden’s QB Camp” to assist the production of Jameis Winston’s 1-on-1 time with Chucky for the famous BSPN special airing later this month.

Rainey took to Twitter and Instagram to share the experience.

He gave Winston a “#funnydude” on Twitter, and it was on Instagram where Rainey said he “would love to play with him.” (Click through above for a look at more.)

Joe wonders how the Bucs locker room will embrace Winston. They will, but how — and who will lead the way — will be interesting.

    When does the Winston episode of Gruden’s QB camp air?

  3. Clint Says:

    I love this site because of the Winston coverage. Keep it coming. Nice work Joe.

  4. Mcruzer Says:

    Roberto Garza just released by the Bears. Look for Lovie to make a move.

  5. passthebuc Says:

    @Joe. I hear your love child from last year, Manzel is about finished in Cleveland. Apparently they tried to peddle him and a first round for Bradford. However St, Louis wanted Nick. I would bet that the Browns would trade even up for our QB of the future (per Lovie)
    Then you could have 2 love children to write about and that’s all you would need for the year.

  7. ToesOnTheLine! Says:

    I’m sure guys would like playing with him, he seems like a charismatic and likeable guy in the interviews done with him. My concern with him is whether or not he’s mature enough to overcome on-field adversity if he goes Manziel on a team (minus the rehab issues). I trust the Bucs to do the investigation into the off field stuff and grade him on their board accordingly.

  9. bucs4lyfe Says:

    has had no trouble overcoming on field/off field issues his entire college career. this is a concern for any player drafted high. after the mark barron flop I just don’t want to see the bucs go after another defensive player first overall. team is 1 for 1 in first round picks so far I think ASJ and Sims will shake out as good players as well. people talk about what dirk koetter would do for glennon which is wishful thinking, just imagine what he could possibly do with our other skill position players

  10. Buccfan37 Says:

    Rainey would like to play with and for anybody. As a MG fan, I don’t care who Rainey would love to have as his QB. I do not believe the QB of the future is going anywhere this year. Just competing for the starter job right here.

  11. Skyline Crew Says:

    Reports coming in that the Panthers might be looking to move up in the draft for Mariota if he is not taken by the Bucs. Seems they can’t get a contract worked out with Newton.

  12. robert 9 Says:

    i’d take cam newton all day. at least he’s not a rapist.

    enough for ya joe?

  13. bucs4lyfe Says:

    I bet Bobby Rainey rainey wishes he could get back on the field with any quarterback….talk about disappearing act! what will he be contributing if bucs find a kick return guy and no RB gets injured

  14. ADown88 Says:

    I love how he posted John 8:7 under the picture, which says,

    “When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, ‘Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.’”

  15. bucs4lyfe Says:

    cam newton is just as average as they come……he’s had an RG3 type impact on the panthers minus the injuries. I don’t think I could stand listening to cam cry at the podium after a loss, he’s just as bad as mccown at that

  17. bucrightoff Says:

    Cam Newton is ridiculously overrated. If Carolina can package him and their first to move up and take Mariota, they’d be foolish not to. Cam is not worth $20-25 million a season, at $5 million per Mariota is substantially better value.

  18. Keepitreal Says:

    @robert… Biggest hater on here. Aka Archie Bunker… He is always guilty to you when he has been exonerated 4 times. Go follow Mariota wherever he ends up. Your ignorance has worn out!!

  19. Patrick in VA Says:

    I’m pretty sure the MGM is a thing of the past. At the #1 overall position, you have to take the QB. Neither of these guys are ones that I see as the next coming of Montana but they, specifically Winston, are good enough to justify being drafted there. When you draft a QB #1 overall, there’s no debate anymore about who the backup is unless that QB goes down or is brought along slowly. I was as vocal as anyone about giving Glennon a chance at this time last year but, given these circumstances, there is no argument to be made in Glennon’s favor as anything but a backup we can be happy we have. I’d love to see him come out and start the first 3-4 games and let Winston get a little more time to absorb things. Might even give Glennon a chance to up his trade value before the trade deadline, if he does well. The MGM is a thing of the past.

    More please!! I challenge you to reference rape in every post you make up till April 30th. I don’t think you can do it. Then you can start picketing OBP. Your words will make a difference. People care what you think.

  21. rayjay1122 Says:

    Robert 9….You should try to be a little bit note creative with your Winston hate. The rape allegations are all played out. You are boring the rest of us with your goody two shoes, conservative, never sinned hypocrisy. Seriously, you bring up so much rape comments that it makes me wonder what you are hiding??? Trying to make yourself feel better about your shady life by continuously slamming another man. SMH.

  22. Pickgrin Says:

    When are you guys gonna learn that Robert9 is a troll and just likes to mess with people here?

  23. Skyline Crew Says:

    Rogers only makes $22m a year and that is the highest average that I have seen only because he doesn’t have a lot of guaranteed money.

    Matt Ryan and Brees are at $20m a year.

    The highest paid QB is Cutler, but he only gets around $18m a year because he had a high guarantee. Same thing for Kap. If Kaepernick can make $19m a year with $61m guaranteed then Newton can as well.

  24. bucs4lyfe Says:

    lol you seriously talk about rape too much archie bunker maybe you did hard time and your fantasizing about a dude….stick to football that’s why we’re here

  25. twizzylax Says:

    Cam Newton has one playoff win in four seasons, and it took a Ryan Lindley-led team to give it to him. He’s 9-16-1 in games decided by 7 pts or less, and has thrown 5 TDs and 10 INTs on 54% passing when tied or trailing with less than 4 minutes remaining. He’s an average QB at best.

  26. Skyline Crew Says:

    rayjay, I think you meant liberal not conservative.

  27. Skyline Crew Says:

    Doesn’t mean he won’t get paid. Salaries go up every year for a QB.

  28. ATrain Says:

    Glennon is begging the Bucs to bring Winston here.. It will only be 6 games and Glennon will be starting again..

    Remember last year the savior was brought here from Chicago.

    Oh and Cleveland brought in the Johnny Football all of the media jumped on his bandwagon.

    Glennon will sit back and smile..This aint college Winston

  29. Jameis "The Train Wreck" Winston Says:

    I saw the excerpt of the Gruden/Winston episode… Winston was ALL over the place… the guy is a man child.

  30. bucs4lyfe Says:

    @ATrain

    not sure what you think glennon has to smile about at all…any quarterbacks best chance of breaking into the starting lineup is when josh mccown is ahead of you on the depth chart, mccown when down and glennon shrinked under the pressure. your saying that glennon can keep Winston on the bench but cant keep the starting job from josh mccown? 5-13 is no way to get a starting job in the nfl

  31. Icantstanditanymore Says:

    Ah, another day rewarded with the witticisms and genius of robert9. What are we going to do when he goes to Miami?

  32. rayjay1122 Says:

    @Skyline..
    Conservative, Liberal, whatever. Any person who thinks they are so perfect while looking down their nose and judging other people is what I meant about Robert 9. I am not much into politics.

  33. Lord Cornelius Says:

    Wow so profootballtalk continues to delete my comments. Michael David Smith wrote another negative WInston article (3 this week) and all i wrote was

    “It’s great that this site presents an unbaised view of Jameis Winston without any sort of agenda”

    That was deleted. The only reason you delete a comment like that is to silence the voice of anyone calling you out on your smear campaign. What a joke.

  34. Supersam Says:

    Rainey is saying whatever he can to keep his head above water, I doubt he even makes the final 53. Bucs are looking at RB’S hard and mean in this draft.

  35. Skyline Crew Says:

    @Cornelius

    At least Joe owns up to what he is doing. Doesn’t care if you post about it either here.

  36. WalkdaPlank Says:

    @bucs4lyfe

    It’s funny that you think there was ever competition at the QB position.

    Glennon was never going to win the starting job. His first two starts in 2015 were better than any games played by McClown as a Buc ever. Eventually Lovie realized that him and his lapdog set this team for failure since the beginning, and pulled the plug, tanking the season.

    Glennon is trade bait. Can’t have him looking bad on the worst team in the NFL, or getting injured.

  37. Supersam Says:

    Winston looked very immature in the tidbit I saw with Mariuchi, acurracy was very erratic in the ball drills as well. I seriously hope this franchise knows what it’s doing, cuz people outside of Florida that Ive listened to all say he’s immature and doesn’t take care of the football. Those are bad combinations in the NFL.

  38. WalkdaPlank Says:

    @Supersam

    Where did you get that? The Bucs have Martin, Sims, Rainey, and James. RB is the last thing we need. Sure we don’t have a DeMarco Murray or Adrian Peterson, but begin a decent line any of those RB’s can get the job done. A pick on a RB is a pick wasted.

  39. Skyline Crew Says:

    However, if you are talking about the Off-field issues article. That isn’t a smear campaign. That is something that Mayock said. Or are you referencing the one that says Jameis looks flabby? Which, wasn’t a smear campaign either.

  41. Skyline Crew Says:

    Rainey is our best RB just from a production standpoint. Why would he have problems making the roster?

  42. WalkdaPlank Says:

    I meant 2014 not 2015 damn phone.

  43. Supersam Says:

    What I can’t figure out, is if Winston really is the guy, why trade Glennon?? He’s a solid cheap backup. And would fit the system. To me the only reason you would trade Glennon is because he won’t fit our new offense, meaning Mariota. And if the Bucs truly are sold on Winston and are 100 percent sure he’s the guy, why bring in Mariota this late for a private workout? It’s not adding up to me.

  44. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    I get the lack of love for MG8 but I do not understand the rush to trade him.

    He has a cheap contract, knows the team, has thrown to all the receivers when the bullets were flying. He’s the perfect cheap backup to Fameis.

  45. tmaxcon Says:

    ATrain

    You can’t believe that garbage you spew. Glennon is a double digit loss guy. A career backup who doesn’t make players around him better.

    The kids Winston drops from throne into the pool each morning have more talent than 8. Accept it and order your Winston Jersey

  46. Supersam Says:

    By my count the Bucs have worked out 4 running backs, and if Rainey was so special and Lovie likes him so much, why did he basically get benched for sims and Martin the second half of the season?

  47. I Just Took a Winston and it stained the rim Says:

    still not sold on this guy

  48. WalkdaPlank Says:

    ^^
    Because Lovie Smith is a compete moron when it comes to running an offense. We have Koetter now.

  49. bucs4lyfe Says:

    @WalkdaPlank

    That sounds ridiculous to me. glennon came in and won his first game, not that it was because of him but we won….the defense was outstanding against the steelers even Michael Johnson, he’s just a guy. lol conspiracy to lose hahaha all glennon had to do was win.

    lol your on something trying to say if glennon was a full time starter last year with arroyo we would have won more games, he cant even tell where the first down marker is. lovie pulled him because after running out of bounds before getting the first he was killing his own trade value

  50. Skyline Crew Says:

    I don’t know why they played Martin or Sims. Sims hasn’t done anything. Martin hasn’t gotten anything done since his rookie year. Rainey was our best RB last year and that is a fact.

  51. bucs4lyfe Says:

    where’s the common sense with some people? no one talks about rex ryan’s ability to run an offense, tom coughlin or mike tomlin guys like that….why the hell does it make sense to anybody to think lovie smith runs an offense? ok so he had someone with zero experience calling plays last year so lovie took over, now he has koetter so he can relax and not worry about the offense? dam what the hell are some people thinking

  52. WalkdaPlank Says:

    “glennon came in and won his first game, not that it was because of him”

    Yeah, cause driving the team down the field at the end of the game isn’t helping at all. People on this site praise Jameis Winston for doing that. Yeah the defense played a good game, and Tomlin made mistakes, but Glennon capitalized on that.

    There was no conspiracy to lose. They tanked. It was clear as day. Now they have the No.1 overall pick.

    Glennon is better than McClown, period. Lovie pulled him because he was behind the worst offensive line in the game with hobbled RB’s and TE’s and not even a damn offensive coordinator. Peyton fuking Manning would’ve sucked ass behind that line. Why risk injuring your young QB or make him a punching bag? I hope they don’t trade him because he will be a damn fine backup to our new QB, but the signs point to him being shipped.

  53. WalkdaPlank Says:

    When the hell did I say Lovie didn’t have to worry about the offense? WTF?? He is the damn head coach. Koetter will help him, that’s all I’m saying.

    Which lead-pipe cinch first ballot Hall of Famer started out 5-14 for his won-loss record?
    ———————————————————————————————-

    really dude? so whoever this hall of famer was you want to compare it to glennon because of the record? where do some of you come from lol. glennon for the 3rd straight year is going into training camp wondering whether he will be the day one starter and you want to compare him to a hall of famer. the guy who runs out of bounce yards short of a first down with room to run? because he is more accurate than josh freeman is no reason to think he is a starting caliber quarterback. you sit the bench behind josh mccown your garbage. mccown was glennon’s biggest fan while he was injured and he melted under the pressure. glennon is below average and basically plays up to the level of his paycheck

  55. tickrdr Says:

    FYI: Peyton Manning, despite his greatness, started out 5-14 in the NFL.

  56. Skyline Crew Says:

    Considering Glennon was a 3rd round pick and won 5 games in what 18 starts then I expect Winston to do better. He has to get at least 7-8 wins, otherwise he is a bust.

  58. Lord Cornelius Says:

    @Skyline

    I am calling it a smear campaign because that writer (MDS) has only published pieces that paint Winston in a negative light; along with profootballtalk in general. There are positive things to write about with Winston but they have chosen to only focus on anything negative.

    The flabby article was a non-story that they made a story. THe guy weighed the same as he did at the combine; so there should be no story; yet they wrote one anyway.

    In his article about Jimbo Fisher; MDS literally suggests that the ONLY reason Winston wasn’t charged was due to a botched investigation. I commented that there was also a plethora of evidence to go along with incosistencies in the accusor’s story and that those were the primary reasons for not charging Winston; and my comment was deleted.

    If they weren’t deleting my comments; I wouldn’t really care. But the fact that they write what they are writing AND deleting comments that are factual based and calling them out; makes me feel like there is nothing else to conclude other than they have an anti-winston reporting agenda; which at this point to me would equate to a smear campaign.

    Actually it’s more like a hate-rousing campaign. A lot of their commenters eat it up. I think they take that angle in general with most players / teams / etc.

  59. bucs4lyfe Says:

    @tickrdr

    we are comparing glennon to first round picks now? lol wow just wow great little note but theres nothing that glennon and peyton manning have in common. day one starter lol that’s 1 for peyton. father was college and nfl hall of fame, glennon….. has a brother that has super bowl ring, glennon his brother couldn’t make it through training camp. unquestioned starter as top pick in the draft and future hall of famer yea, glennon 3rd round pick who has been the subject of trade rumors since the sorry coach that drafted him got traded. glennon is probably the reason schiano got fired……it’s clear he’s not a franchise quarterback and if your not then your just a stop gap until the franchise finds one….I think glennon knows where he stands in his career

  60. Skyline Crew Says:

    I couldn’t find anything that posted his weight at pro day. So didn’t know if he weighed more or not.

  61. tickrdr Says:

    @Mr. Bucs4lyfe:

    I only listed Peyton Manning’s record as a starter in his first 19 games in the NFL. You already posted MG8’s record as 5-13. No other comparison was made in that post. I have previously posted that in those same 19 games, that Peyton Manning threw for 33 TDs and 33 INTs. Just a reminder that MG8 threw for 29 TDs and only 15 INTs in only a quarter more than 18 games (Atl game third qtr). I heard that MG8’s father was a Nobel prize winner, and that his mother won the blue ribbon at the county fair for her recipe for rhubarb pie, but I have no earthly idea what that has to do with anything about HIS performance. BTW, how many TDs vs. INTs will Jameis have in his first 18 games?

    tickrdr

  62. Lord Cornelius Says:

    @ Skyline I can’t find it now but I read it in some article at some point.

    Regardless; he didn’t look any worse at the pro day than he did combine from my eye. He doesn’t even look like he’s out of shape he just isn’t ripped up.

    And I don’t mind them reporting whatever they want to report on; but to delete every single comment that raises any question about their agenda is incredibly sketchy to me. You don’t do that unless you know you are getting called out on something you are doing that is wrong. I don’t know any other reason to not allow the comments I posted.

  63. tmaxcon Says:

    No disrespect but I could careless what his td / int ratio. My concern is winning games period. The biggest hurdle Winston will have is Lovie Smith and his life long fear of points.

  64. BoltIsle Says:

    Not sure how someone sitting at home eating Cheetos and watching NFL Network is more qualified to discuss the appearance of draft candidates than someone seeing them in person.
    NFL people there didn’t seem too concerned or we would have heard a lot more about it.

  65. ATrain Says:

    Tmaxcon you are like every other Winston lover.. You see nothing but the Famous Jamis BS..

    1st – no one could throw behind that O line.

    2nd – if you watch football look at his throws when he is not being chased out of the pocket. He has a strong arm . throws tight spirals.

    Also your Famous will be known for two things blowing all his money with Johnny at the EGO Bar.

  66. Stanglassman Says:

    I love how guys write, no one could play behind that OL in one sentace and the next McCown sucks and MG gets excused.
    I was concerned for Josh’s life in some of those games last year, literally. I don’t think either of them got much of a chance last year and would like to keep MG and am interested to see how McCown does with the Browns next year.
