Update: Newton “Game-day Decision”

Stinking Panthers QB Cam Newton misses practice Thursday. Again.

Stinking Panthers QB Cam Newton misses practice Thursday. Again.

Yesterday, it was widely reported that Stinking Panthers quarterback Cam Newton did not fully participate in practice because of his cracked ribs. Bad news for Newton and the Stinking Panthers fans, good news for Bucs fans.

Well, for the second straight day, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, not only did Newton not practice, but the Stinking Panthers’ franchise quarterback hinted he is not 100 percent certain he will start Sunday in the season-opener at the Stadium on Dale Mabry Highway.

Of course, the Lambs, the Week 2 foe of the Bucs, just lost Sam Bradford with a(nother) season-ending knee injury.

UPDATE: Per Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer, Newton is hardly a lock to play Sunday.

TKras just said onWDAE that he was at practice today. Strange.

Being at practice and practicing two different animals.

  4. DallasBuc Says:

Right, no I meant that he said that Newton practiced today. Maybe I heard it wrong but that’s what it sounded like…

    Here you go Joe:

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000389152/article/jonathan-cooper-wont-start-for-arizona-cardinals

Looks like Ted Larsen beat out a first rounder to start for Cards, but he wasnt good enough for us. Typical

  6. Joe Says:

    Buddhaboy:

Interesting. Was no fan of Larsen but that is amazing. Thanks for the link!

  7. Joe Says:

Right, no I meant that he said that Newton practiced today.

Sure, that could be. May have been on the sidelines or doing something whereby he wasn’t aggravating his ribs.

  8. DallasBuc Says:

Buddha- every member of last years oline that we ran out of town is currently starting for another team. Penn, Zuttah, Joseph and Larsen are all starters for coaches like The Super Bowl winning Harbaugh, Jeff Fisher and Bruce Aryans.

  9. DallasBuc Says:

“Sure, that could be. May have been on the sidelines or doing something whereby he wasn’t aggravating his ribs.” Just read some more on this and indeed it he practiced but sounds very limited. Either way he will not be at full strength for Sunday which is good news for the good guys!

  10. Buccanole Says:

DallasBuc- Just because they are starters on other teams doesn’t mean all their talents worked well together as one unit. Each of them clearly found a system they fit in now which wasn’t our system. Offensive Lineman need to gel

  11. Snook Says:

I’d rather play against an injured Cam than play against Derek Anderson.

We suck at playing against backup QBs.

  12. DallasBuc Says:

Buccanole- those guys we kicked out of here knew each other and played together for a long time. Saying that the 5 guys we have now somehow “gel” better than what was here is nonsense. Current 5 have never even taken a single NFL snap together. This is exactly what I mean by “do no wrong” comments. They loused up the oline situation. Period.

  13. Oahubuc Says:

I’m not that excited about this myself. I want to see what Lovie and Frazier’s defense can do against Cam. Whoever is back there is going to pay, and I can’t see them throwing Cam out for Gerald McCoy to eat if he’s questionable health-wise.

  14. Soggybottom Says:

@DallasBuc, are you for real they stunk it up last year, are line is much better now with our new additions.. each one of our old line may be playing on other teams but they sucked for us last year, just did’nt jel much.. Kind of gave up on us and there jobs.. So Bye Bye to them..

  15. Eric Says:

All those great lineman got us 5.5 second half points per game.Their replacements played for the Pats: Packers: Bengals: Chiefs

    All playoff teams last year.

  16. Grudenzombie Says:

If I was Ron Rivera I would not chance him getting hurt and out for the season. Especially when you consider our improved defense the chances are Newton will get hit, often and hard. Why would you chance your entire season on the first game of the season. 15 games still to play whats to say Newton does not heal by week 2,3, or 4 and salvage their season?

If I was Ron Rivera I would sit Newton this week and next.

  17. DallasBuc Says:

None of the butt squeeze they have signed and trotted out there for right guard come close to being the player Davin Joseph is…and don’t look now but Joseph just took the starting gig in STL from last years 1st overall Greg Robinson! So tell me again that Davin Joseph is NOT better than Meredith, Cousins, Omameh or Johnson?!!! EDS is a nice player for undrafted player but better than Zuttah?…with what film? Just because he snapped the ball to Rodgers for half of a season doesn’t make him better than Zuttah. Mankins is only proven oline pickup but we only signed him in desperation and he just started work 3 days ago! Don’t get me started on our left tackle who was a backup who played decent in relief last year but does that make him a high dollar LT in this league. Answer if course is NO!

  18. Snook Says:

“They loused up the oline situation. Period.”

Sorry but our OLine couldn’t be any worse than it was last year. That unit SUCKED.

  19. buctebow Says:

I am not buying t, this is a smokesceen, SuperFool will play Sunday.

  20. Grudenzombie Says:

The panthers schedule for October, Chicago, Cincy, Green bay, Seattle, New Orleans. I think he will not start.

  21. Soggybottom Says:

Wow DallasBuc hates our team sounds like its time for you to find a different team..

  22. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

Last year’s line was a total abomination.

    Let it go.

  23. DallasBuc Says:

Soggybottom- sorry pal but the Bucs are my team. Not going anywhere. It’s called criticism, not hatred. Deal with it!
BTW, why is your bottom soggy?

  24. Eric Says:

Im confused. Worst offense in pro football.

    But our oline was good.

  25. OAR Says:

Hey Joe talking about somebody about to cry…….Cam ‘Wah-bulance’ Newton!

  26. Nick2 Says:

I have a feeling alot of people tailgating Sunday will be cooking up some very TENDER RIBS heh heh heh…………….

  27. OAR Says:

    Dallasbuc
You obviously haven’t seen the great “Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?” movie!

  28. Soggybottom Says:

@DallasBuc, If the bucs are your team than act like it, you are the most negative person I ever heard, they could win the super bowl and you would still find somthing to bitch about.. Mama says alligators are so angry because they have all them teeth and no toothbrush..

  29. OAR Says:

Who’ll get the penalty for the rib shot on Cam?

  30. Nick2 Says:

BTW Davin was good but he played like garbage last year because he was coming back from an injury . He was getting paid a boat load and I think Lovie and Licht figured they couldn’t afford a repeat performance. I would have kept him for sure but apparently they saw some game tape that disturbed them. Too bad we didn’t keep Joseph and have Mankins!! That would have been two beasts at guard. Oh well.

  31. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

I was negative as hell after multiple years of Dominik. That was called well founded criticism of an atrocious win/loss record.

Currently, the team is 0-0 and we have people bitching like they know what’s going to happen.

There has been NO LOSSES. Holy negative. Turn your frown upside down. Be happy Mark Dominik is no longer ruining your team.

    Jeez Louise.

  32. WalkdaPlank Says:

If I know Cam from his SEC days of being an attention-seeking brat, he will leave it a mystery until the Panthers take the field, then run out of the tunnel striking every ridiculous pose and smile to the cameras and build suspense. But I don’t think he is as reckless as RGlll, so he might not play.

  33. DallasBuc Says:

Soggyass- I am not negative or angry. I am concerned but collected when expressing those concerns. You be a fan that supports his team by cheering every bad move HC/GM makes, every bad player, every bad play. I am going to be a fan that supports his by praising the things I like and criticizing those I don’t. You do it your way and I’ll do it mine.

  34. OAR Says:

It’s a shame because Davin Joesph is playing great and starting with St Louis! We’ll see him in a few weeks.

  35. Harry Says:

    @DallasBuc Says:
“…None of the butt squeeze they have signed and trotted out there for right guard come close to being the player Davin Joseph is… EDS is a nice player for undrafted player but better than Zuttah?……Don’t get me started on our left tackle who was a backup who played decent in relief last year but does that make him a high dollar LT in this league.”

Totally agree with you. Friggin gave away Zuttah – that might be the worst of the bunch. I also hated the Mike Williams trade. Sure would like to have him as our 3rd WR. At the very least, we are about to find out what kind of trades these all were, instead of it just being our opinions.

  36. Warren Says:

The guy is a baller and this is a divisional matchup and season opener….he’ll start unless they tie him to a tackling dummy

  37. TeamFriendlyJFroContract Says:

He does one heck of a Great Pouty Face …….

  38. Ghost Says:

I hope scam newton plays I want to see him in pain.

  39. Soggybottom Says:

@DallasBuc says Soggyass- I am not negative or angry. [ then if you are not negative or angry why the soggyass comment } Glad we are not nabors mama said knock you out..

  40. DallasBuc Says:

Hah! That pouty face is classic. Can’t stand him and that smirk. Hope our D finds a way to smack it off his face!

  41. DallasBuc Says:

    Lighten up Soggyass!

  42. Soggybottom Says:

    Yah your right Go Bucs..

  43. Eric Says:

If I recall correctly Carolina totally dominated our oline twice last year and treated our qb like the ball in a pinball machine.

Ill take my chances with our new group.

  44. KMAC1322 Says:

@DallasBuc – Joseph isnt starting over Greg Robinson he is on the other side of the line….That is also a rookie Guard so give it time and Im sure Joseph will lose the position to Mike Persons.

Lets see what this offensive line can do over the next few weeks, in games that count, before yall bash em..I am taking notes and will call out each of you who have been bashing them before they have actually played a few games. If they suck after week 3 then yes lets light em up and lets tear into Licht….I am still sour about Zuttah tho cause of his versatility

  45. Ernest T. Bass Says:

Dallasbuc mentions butt squeeze? Probably because his boy Sam I am is now in Dallas, they are neighbors! You two getting cozy?

  46. DallasBuc Says:

Ernest- you here to talk Bucs football or just make gay jokes?

  47. BucBob1 Says:

Sounds like another smokescreen. This time from the Panthers. I’m sure Lovie Vape, having dabbled in a few smokescreens himself, sees right through it.

  48. Jeagan1999 Says:

I don’t think Cam will play…just a hunch. But if he does, the Bucs D will be hitting him chest high all day long!

  49. NJ BucFan Says:

It’s a little hard not to agree with DallasBuc in regards to the O-Line. Zuttah, Larsens, Penn and Joseph are all starting for their new teams, meanwhile a week before the first game of the season we were scrambling to find not 1 but 2 starting guards. Even if the contracts were the issues, Zuttah and Larsen didn’t even have bad contracts that would’ve affected our FA spree.

I’m not totally forsaking our current line, but it’s a bad sign when Joseph beat out a top 2 pick for his spot, Penn beat out a high 2nd round pick for his, Larsen beat out a top 7 pick for his spot, and Zuttah beat out the starting C from the Raven superbowl team for his spot and none of them were due to any factor other than talent. Meanwhile, we have people yelling about Licht taking Sims in the 3rd rather than a Guard that probably wouldn’t have beat out any of the guys we let go.

  50. NJ BucFan Says:

Maybe, just maybe, our old coaches did as poorly with the O-Line talent as they did with the rest of the talent we had on this team. I mean come on, watch that Seattle game again and tell me how our O-Line was the root of all our problems.

  51. CLW JB Says:

Ted Cheapshot Larsen will lead the league in a couple categories – personal fouls and ole’ blocks- dude is not good at all and Arizona’s OLine is consistently bad- Cooper is a BUST

If we get lucky enough to miss out on Cam and Bradford no reason at all we don’t start 2-0

  52. Ghost Says:

I agree the OL can’t be any worse than last season.

  53. Bird Says:

One bad spot on Oline can be protected. Stoked for the season. Mankins was huge. Whether is a little older he is solid. I am worried about tedford though. But hey what u gonna do. Go bucs can’t wait

  54. RustyRhinos Says:

    Right on the money Eric.
All those great lineman got us 5.5 second half points per game.Their replacements played for the Pats: Packers: Bengals: Chiefs

    All playoff teams last year.

  55. RustyRhinos Says:

Most all our former Olineman had been here for some time, have any of them ever smelled the playoffs?

Maybe those players needed a change of employers, to refocus on their job. I say good luck to them in their new places of employment. Thanks for your time and effort during your time here.

I am Very excited to see how Mankins and our New Oline come to work.

  56. Cobraboy Says:

    Newton will play.

I can’t remember a season opener with so much smoke and baloney flying around…

  57. Thomas Says:

If they are smart they wont play him. If he actually does have bad ribs Gerald and Clinton will break them for him.

  58. elyon3.6 Says:

Typical Dallasbucc, hating on them Bucc boys. Doing it by hiding behind the guise of a few seemingly well elequated words. I wish we knew who your real team was.

  59. Crimson_Warrior Says:

@Cobraboy I know it’s clearly a smoke screen lol. It seems unnecessary because Tampa has said all along that they are still preparing for a 100% healthy Cam. Hate the theatrics of the NFL sometimes.

Reason #592 of why it is stupid to draft a OG or RB early in round 1.
