Breaking Down The Bucs

It goes hand-in-hand with training camp. Folks breaking down the good and analyzing the bad. It is as traditional as roasting summer sun and the sweat-soaked uniforms of the Bucs.

There is much to like about the Bucs this season. The defense should be stout with an expected improvement in the pass rush. The team may never have been this loaded with so many talented receivers. The Bucs are an easy five-deep at running back, each likely could start for another squad.

Then, well, you hear those screeching brakes? That’s the sound that arises when one begins talking about the offensive line of the Bucs. Earlier this week, SiriusXM NFL Radio dropped in at One Buc Palace as part of their annual training camp tour where the channel focuses on one team for an entire show, which is filled with interviews of front office types, coaches and players of said team.

In the video below, co-hosts Booger McFarland and Zig Fracassi discuss what they learned about the Bucs, and what they forecast the team to do this season.

I noticed they visited on a Sunday, when their listenership is at it’s lowest on a weekly basis…

  2. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

How do you know that about listenership? Just curious.

Ask any radio person about listenership on weekends. Dramatically lower. You don’t see (hear) top radio talent working weekends on a regular basis. That’s evidence alone.

  4. flmike Says:

My family was in the record and radio industry when you could still make a living at it, and we still have friends in the industry, two work directly for SXM as PDs, one in sports and one in Rock.

So they basically said the sky is blue and water is wet. Too bad they had nothing to add we didn’t already know.

Defense will have to carry this team this season.
They have to be elite for that though.
I guess Defense will play their hearts out and be very good
but it wont be enough to overcome shortcoming on O.

    Hard Facts:

NFL loves offenses and its a passing league
A strong running game helps the passing game
bucs passing game will need help – no proven WR besides V-Jacks
2 very good back-ups as QB – “if you you got 2 QB´s you got none”

Bucs o-line isn´t exactly known for runblocking
    will need time to gell
    Dotson = zero push
Collins also more of a pass blocker
    >> could be overcome by sheme, but will be tough first season for Tedford
given the lack of electric weapons like Saints have in his ROOKIE WR COOKS (smart fast good hands), same goes for Kelvin Benjamin from Panthers + tall, but he is pretty much only weapon on that team

    to counter:

I hope Lovie won´t hope on his front 4 alone

Modern defenses bring pressure from various spots, disguising where it comes from >>> we got the LB´s to blitz in Foster and Fletcher, Lansana maybe cuz speed and hard hitting saftys behind that to make catching balls through the middle tough + LVD is excellent cover LB

    Just lacking smart/quick enough DB´s

What we need to hope for: Jonathan Banks stepping up + no injurys
    Improved safety play
Does another top pass rusher emerge besides McCoy?

Could Lovie suprise us all? Given the FACT that disguising where the pressure is coming from and the recent success of hybrid defenses:

How about a package with 3 D-lineman and 4-5 LB?
we got enough good ones, the group should be better than the current DB´s.

Therefore showing different pre snap alignments and sending the house could work.

All in all: A loosing season could still be an improved one….

Just keep doing the right decisons down there in One Buc and we should have a bright future ahead.

Excited to see what Lovie will do with his opportunity here

    Go Bucs!

  7. louden Says:

sorry for wall of text, and what do bucs fans think about that hybrid D?

  8. louden Says:

Also: while it would break my heart to let go of the best WR since a long time for Bucs

    How about trading V-Jacks?
He could be the missing piece for some very good teams and he deserves a chance to win it all.

A Boone + some high draft picks for example.
    1st + 3rd next year
Boone + 1st next year + 2nd/3rd the year after

What’s the point of giving away your only good and proven WR to get an above average OG? Because VJax deserves a chance to win it all? That is your rationale? First newsflash, having an excellent WR is far better than having one above average guard…. next newsflash, the shelf-lives of WRs are far longer than those of OGs. VJax will probably play just as long as Boone. Still, the 49ers aren’t giving up a 1st and 3rd for VJax with his contract. The only GM that would make such a stupid deal was fired by the Bucs in January.

    This ain’t Madden, bro.

  10. louden Says:

    Madden stinks anyway.
yeah your right, Boone is older than i thought.
then screw this season and get just draft picks for him, or look for other players and/or draft picks.

curious through how many more seasons V-jacks want to put his body through + staying productive
