What’s A “Future Star” Worth?

Plenty of love on the airwaves yesterday

Greg Schiano is still on the Bucs’ payroll to the tune of $3 million a year– and he acted like it yesterday.

The commander-in-chief of the Mike Glennon Mob, now a “tape room” analyst for NFL Network this week, was raving about his favorite subject.

Yes, that would be Mike Glennon.

Joe was pumped up to hear it. Schiano labeling Glennon a “future star” — multiple times — can only help Glennon’s trade value. Maybe Schiano is even working the phones to make sure Glennon lands in an offense that suits is style? Actually, Joe would bet on that.

Joe’s curious whether Ken Whisenhunt has interest in Tennessee, where former Schiano right hand and Bucs quarterbacks coach John McNulty, is coaching QBs. Joe suspects the Titans will draft a quarterback and Glennon could serve as a strong backup/role model/competition.

Schiano knows talent, I assume none of us have our own spot on NFL Network expounding on our eye ball tests for determining what makes a franchise QB. Schiano is a good analyst too, might as well keep his name out there until he makes his return to coaching taking a DC job in the NFL

  2. FLBoyInDallas Says:

I will laugh until I’m unconscious if Glennon goes on to have success in the league ala Doug Williams, Steve Young and to a certain extent Trent Dilfer, after he leaves the Bucs. That will just continue the Bucs franchise, media and fan base history of ineptitude when it comes to the QB position. And if whatever QB the Bucs draft this year ends up a disappointment in Tampa? Icing on the cake. LOL!

  3. Mike Says:

Lost all respect with Joe(s)@ Mike Glennon mom! S(p)it getting old

  4. William Says:

Yes! a DC in our division will bring us 2 easy wins. No halftime adjustments will allow our 3rd string QB to play.

Connor Shaw is coming to Tampa.

  5. Mike Says:

Joes bring us good stuff most of the time! But after the past 2 weeks(I’m not apart of the MGM) I hope he bites you all in the ass! This has gotten stupid folks!

  6. Buc1987 Says:

Mike…I really don’t think respect is something the Joe’s care about. I think mom is a typo being that the b is close to the m on a keyboard.

  7. Buc1987 Says:

Thank you NFL for adding 3 more weeks of waiting for the draft this year. Punishing us Buc fans that frequent Joe’s site daily with 3 extra weeks of Glennon is a goner and Manziel is a football God.

    3 words. One More Day.

  8. That Guy Says:

Just look at how many Rutgers QBs have gone on to star in the NFL. That Gregory is a veritable QB guru! An offensive genius, I tell ya!

  9. Mike Says:

I’ll agree 87. I just feel that they have gotten really ignorant the past few weeks.

  10. Mike Says:

Hey that guy! Can you tell us OL, RB, and others that have and can succeed? I can…..

  11. deminion Says:

He has a eye for talent

  12. Buc1987 Says:

Mike…they are fans just like us. During the offseason before the internet and we all read the sports page. There would rarely be a mention of the Bucs for months. You would have about a week of stories during free agency. Then the sports page would go cold on Buc news for weeks and weeks until the draft.

For this I appreciate JBF. It must be hard during the offseason to find things to write about. Of course the regime change certainly helps out a lot.

I thank the Hoe’s ( the h is next to the j, just kidding intentional typo Joe), I mean the Joe’s for getting us through these extra weeks of waiting.

Always plenty to write about. Never a strain. Thank for the love. –Joe

    @ That Guy

Developing QB’s (QB guru) and recognizing talent in the draft at all positions including QB (draft guru) are two different skills. I never said Schiano is a QB guru (nor should anyone who isn’t blogging while intoxicated), but I absolutely stand by Schiano being a talented draft guru. Apparently the NFL Network agrees

  14. Trubucfan22 Says:

Schiano is an idiot. I wouldn’t listen to a single word he says. If finding super star qbs was so easy then we would have more qb successes than busts in the nfl. But sadly 99% of all qbs drafted are busts by year 5. I don’t take schianos knowledge (or lack there of) of qbs to be a honorable recommendation. Schiano was an idiot way over head, who had a mancrush on glennon since glennon was 17 yrs old. Move on from this idiot, my fellow bucs fans. It’s history and we have bright future with an all new staff.

  15. rdbucfan Says:

I would take Schiano’s opinion every day and twice on Sunday over a couple of Bucks fans that run their own website or the little puppy that hates just about everyone except for a select few.

    “Buc” fans

  17. Nick H Says:

Glennon isn’t exactly a sure thing but I believe he could have gotten the job done with competent coaching. Saying the 32nd ranked offense is his fault is like saying the Vince Lombardy belongs to Malcolm Smith.

I’ll always root for Mike Glennon because of the non-sense, biased blasting he received.

  18. ToesOnTheLine Says:

He’s collecting $3M to do nothing more than not take a coaching job and is getting to spout off on NFL Network (keeping his name out there is important for after the Glazer money stops), whose the idiot in this scenario?

  19. Sweets Willie Says:

Schiano use to shake players hands during pregame stretching. Guess who will be massaging Johnny’s legs pregame if taken at 7?

If Joe’s takes are so horrible, no one is forcing you to come here. There are plenty of Bucs sites out there that rarely update their sites during the offseason.

  21. Buczilla Says:

Ya know what? I totally have to jump on Buc1987’s coattails… It is easy to forget what those dark days after the Super Bowl were like. We were at the mercy of whatever drivel filled the void. Sure baseball was covered 6 ways to Sunday, but if I had to endure one more article on fly fishing or the latest trends in BMX racing I would have screamed. I know we don’t say it often enough, but thanks Joe(s)!

Now back to our infighting, mudslinging, and prognosticating!

  22. buc89 Says:

Schiano looks like a gorilla in the that suit. Not a buff one, just a stupid gorilla. Someone get him a banana

  23. pick6 Says:

Mike Glennon will be a success in this league. there is no shortage physical talent coming out of the college ranks at QB, but the best NFL QBs are set apart by what goes on above the shoulders. i’m still not sure the bucs actually mean to get rid of him. if the rumors about the interested parties are true, many coaches who have hand-picked and\or coached up Superbowl QBs would like to have him on their team. to me that is very telling, and it would make me think twice about whether he is worth more on my team’s roster or somebody else’s

  24. Chef Paul Says:

The Joes: Second most under-appreciated person in Tampa.

Number one most under-appreciated goes to Glennon.

I rdbucfan posted this Joe, not Bonzai. Sorry for the browbeating Bonzai.

Please do not take offense Joe’s, love the website. I’m just saying I’ll take player evaluation by the people who are paid to evaluate talent over your opinion. Like Glennon is a good backup. I’ll trust l&l’s evaluation of Glennon. If they trade him, cut him or keep him I’m good with whatever they decide even if that decision is to draft your man crush JFF. That’s why the get the big bucks.

  26. Ernest T. Bass Says:

There will be fisticuffs at the draft party tomorrow, and for all the wrong reasons!! The different factions (Freemanites, MGM, Johnny’s) will all be under the same roof. We will need Reverend 55 to show up and keep the peace!!

  27. Hawk Says:

I have no doubt that the trade ‘rumors’ are coming from somewhere in the Buccaneer organization. It has turned into an hysterically hyped smoke screen. But the truth is that no matter how much smoke they blow, when the draft starts, they may find that the first several picks shift the wind in an unexpected direction.
BTW, those of you who are planning to ‘neener, neener, neener’ Joe, when Johnny Gazelle flops, are in for some disappointment. When John-Boy officially becomes a bust, Joe will merely open his copy of ‘Excuses for Dummies’ and give us daily posts of, “It was a bad team”, “The HC didn’t know how to use him”, “The OC didn’t know how to game-plan”, ” The QB coach wasn’t a ‘guru'”, ” The sun was in his eyes”, ” He kept tripping over pom-pom streamers”, ” The cheerleaders distracted him”, etc. :^)

  28. buc4lyfe Says:

Finally this is the best time to lie to everyone schiano….Finally doing something to help the bucs thrive. Finally earning his paycheck Great job, he’s an asset as long as you aren’t calling him coach

  29. The_Buc_Realist Says:

I just heard from my sources that Lovie and Licht were in 1 Buc parking lot lighting smoke bombs. just to keep up with all the other smoke screens.

  30. Barry Says:

MG8 2014 and beyond. Can be a franchise QB for the Bucs.

  31. bucrightoff Says:

Joe writes things that at times really make you scratch your head. Tennessee is going to draft a QB…and then waste another draft pick for Glennon? Oooook then.

  32. Bucfan#37 Says:

Give Peace a Chance, give Glennon a chance too.

  33. Sweets Willie Says:

Rdbucfan and Bonzai, you were caught by Joe! You two are like Norman Bates and his mother! Turn in your wig and dress. 24 h 45 m to go.

  34. Buc1987 Says:

rdbucfan…I think it’s a Schiano’s opinion vs Joe and the lil puppy thingy that bothered Joe so much. Just a speculation Joe.

  35. rdbucfan Says:

    Sweets willie,

Joe can tell who is posting and if I were Bonzai, it would definitely be Jekyll and Hyde situation as I usually do not agree with Bonzai’s takes.

  36. Mark from the Block Says:

I would listen to what Schiano says about QBs had it not been for the fact that he flipped QB’s year in and year out like most people flip underware. The QBs that he did start for multiple years never panned out in the nfl cougj cough Mike Teal… Gary Nova…. while guys pike Tom Savage are being talked about as day 2 picks
