A Bucs QB is on the mark and impressing a key teammate

One of the hardest Greg Schiano slaps at Josh Freeman and, simultaneously, one of his greatest praises of Mike Glennon, came when Schiano explained how Glennon was making receivers better because he’s so darn accurate.

Schiano said it would take Bucs receivers time to adjust to such precision and greatness.

New Bucs Pro Bowl cornerback Alterraun Verner sees what precise passing brings in Bucs practices, but Verner says he’s seeing it from Josh McCown.

Speaking to SiriusXM NFL Radio this week, Verner talked about the Bucs’ journeyman turned starting QB.

“I don’t think you saw from him last year was a fluke or a one time thing,” Verner said of McCown. “I think he’s very poised, very smart quarterback. You see him taking charge. The times that I’ve talked to guys on the offense they just say he just knows what’s going on. He knows where people are supposed to be. And they’re putting tools around him to be successful. So, I mean, he’s a great guy off the field, and he’s a real good quarterback. You see him with pinpoint passes. He’s throwing it out of breaks real well. He’s [finding] people open, and he’s not making terrible decisions. He’s being real smart with the football and that’s what we want.”

As Joe’s written previously, much to the chagrin of the Mike Glennon Mob, McCown is the man. He’s the guy. He’s 100 percent the opening day starter, barring injury.

Joe’s glad to hear McCown is looking sharp — from a guy who’s studying him on the other side of the ball. A solid season from McCown could mean a true return of the Bucs to the “relevant” status Lovie Smith is seeking in 2014.

    Revis who?

Joe has “previously written” a lot of things about the Bucs QB situatuion, most of which were way off base. Consider the source and take it with a grain of salt.

  3. sam Says:

Some people are just late bloomers in life. They seem too get better with age. I really think Josh is that type of person. I’m glad too have him on our team.

  4. SteveK Says:

“As Joe’s written previously, much to the chagrin of the Mike Glennon Mob, McCown is the man.”

    ____________________________

SteveK knows McCown is the starter, but much to the chagrin of the Freemanites Glennon is the future franchise Buc QB. Great to see McCown stepping up, as this gives time for Glennon to develop.

SteveK is going to be pumped when Glennon steps in and steps up, again, much to the chargrin of a certain radio personality and Joes.

OK, folks. Joe has no problem with dissent. Stock up on your Glennon jerseys now, dear Mobster.–Joe

Love your work, love listening the the radio host, but “way off base” (as lightning buc states) is accurate.

  5. ToesOnTheLine Says:

The Bucs had another QB named Josh who used to look sharp in practice too

  6. pablo Says:

Pablo thinks last year was a fluke for McCown similar to Matt Cassel, Matt Flynn, Billy Volek etc… One year wonder. Pablo thinks we should let Glennon start day 1 instead of throwing him in at misses on after we are 3-6

  7. IdahoBucsfan Says:

I don’t care if he tries to rile us up,…. at least he is now a Cleveland Fan! LOL!

  8. unbelievable Says:

“…let Glennon start day 1 instead of throwing him in at misses on after we are 3-6.”

What? Unbelievable thinks Pablo needs some grammar lessons before he attempts to speak in the 3rd person. Unbelievable also thinks pablo’s panties are in a bunch this morning.

  9. stanglassman Says:

Verner has no idea what he is talking about I guess he hasn’t been reading the comment section on JBF enough to really know what going on.

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

TBBF thinks its great to have McCown as our starter…and also great to have Glennon as our backup. TBBF would also think it would be great if Glennon won the starting job and McCown is the backup….

  11. lightningbuc Says:

OK, folks. Joe has no problem with dissent. Stock up on your Glennon jerseys now, dear Mobster.–Joe

What’s funny about this is that while Glennon’s new Bucs jersey isn’t for sale on Buccaneers.com, neither is McCown’s. HMMM…wonder how many other NFL teams don’t have their “100%, for sure, take it to the bank,” opening day starter’s jersey NOT for sale.

  12. Dougy balls Says:

Pablo thinks Pablo is an idiot

  13. JFat Says:

I’m all for a camp battle. I think Glennon should get a chance at some point but if it isn’t this year, I’m fine with that cause it means Mccown earned it. I think most “MGMers” are on a similar page and won’t be chagrined over Mccown starting. Just want what puts the team in the best position to win.

  14. ToesOnTheLine Says:

    @ lightning

I was pondering that as well…hmm Good old MG8 90% good as gone from the Bucs, backup QB as sure as the sun will rise. I guess we’ll see, but I still think Glennon will be the starter after preseason wraps up

  15. pablo Says:

Pablo is a big fan of auto – correct … pablo tried to write midseason but for some reason it posted “misses” instead… hopefully you guys don’t assume that pablo is a idiot

  16. rayjay1122 Says:

Rayjay agrees with dougy balls. Lol. Sorry Joe for what I started with the whole 3rd person dig. But it is pretty funny.

  17. BKNYfootballhead Says:

Pablo assumes guys don’t assume he’s an idiot, but Pablo knows Pablo is an idiot. If Pablo didn’t want to be an idiot, Pablo wouldn’t take Pablo so seriously, because Pablo is just Pablo, an idiot.

  18. joe$sucsfan Says:

JoeBrownsFan.com, Joe is so stuck on MG only being a backup he forgets that there are more QB’S that were developed to become winners than were drafted thinking they would be great and ultimately failed and could not even become good backups. Time will tell, you could be right or wrong but give him a chance under this coaching staff. What really rubs you is that L&l had the nerve to pronounce him the QB of the future when you were telling them he was not.

  19. JT Says:

McCown and Glennon will battle it out during preseason and my guess is Glennon will come out on top. Being named the starter in April means nothing come August unless your just lightyears better than the guy behind you, which McCown is NOT.

  20. eric Says:

I wonder do the card carrying members of the JFB Mob (Joe) have a satellite with a Cleveland address so we can get JFB updates through out training camp,

  21. Tampabaybucfan Says:

TBBF wants Joe to read our posts with us using third person for a few days….but TBBF doen’t plan to continue referring to himself in the third person because TBBF thinks there is something dreadfully wrong with people that do that. (TBBF cuts Joe some slack because Joe is not a real person on this site, he is a caricature of himself.) (Predict…Joe will argue that.)
TBBF hopes others will follow TBBF’s lead and cease with the third person soon…like after Memorial Day!!!

  22. rayjay1122 Says:

Rayjay agrees with TBBF on every point. Of course Pablo will continue because of obvious reasons.

  23. owlykat Says:

If equal time is given to all three QBs in Preseason, McCown will outshine the rest and Kafka will have better stats than Glennon but will still end up on the Practice Squad until Lovie can unload the sack magnet, Glennon!!! Join the Kafka Fan Club.

  24. ToesOnTheLine Says:

Not sure about that Owlykat, hasn’t Kafka been in the league too long now to be eligible for the Bucs to be able to stash him away on the practice squad even if they wanted to? My guess he’s a camp arm that may land on another team after cuts unless he can wow L&L enough to carry 3 QB’s on the final 53

  25. Buc the Haters Says:

I wish Pablo would stop posting on here. His takes are worthless & off-base, & that 3rd person stuff is just silly. I could deal with it if his opinions were even decent, but they’re awful. I guarantee McCown will have a respectable, solid season (barring injury).. Glennon’s time will come. Granted, it might not be for 2-3 seasons bcuz I think McCown will have alt of success in our offense with all these playmakers around him. Just watch

  26. Buc the Haters Says:

And fyi, McCown is slightly better than is basically every aspect. He’s just as accurate, more mobile, more experience, more moxy, just as smart with the football, better downfield accuracy, a functionally strong enough arm. So, logically speaking, who in their right mind would start Glennon over him?

  27. pablo Says:

    Rajjay1122 says:
“Pablo will continue because of obvious reasons.”
    ——————————————–
Pablo would like it if you elaborate ..

  28. Buc the Haters Says:

    slightly better than *Glennon

  29. Bobby Says:

Bobby likes McCown. He’s been around awhile and every time he’s gotten a chance he’s been productive. Can’t fault him for losing his starting job in Arizona to Kurt Warner. Since then he’s bounced around a lot but he’s done well when he gets in games. With the weapons we have I expect him to do really well. He’s not really that old when you consider the amount of time he’s played. Pretty fresh wheels on this guy. Plenty of time for Glennon to develop and I like Glennon a lot but I like him maturing under a vet like McCown.

  30. Buc the Haters Says:

I’ll elaborate… It seems like u have either a really low football IQ or u are just trying to post takes that get a rise out of people. Either u seem really fake or dumb. One of the two

  31. BigMacAttack Says:

In all fairness, Freeman’s favorite receivers were cameramen 5 yards out of bounds and could hit them 10 out of 10 times.

  32. lightningbuc Says:

    Freeman’s favorite receivers were cameramen

    ____________

That’s funny…and true! He was enamored with how open they were.

  33. Flmike Says:

I’ve been saying it all along, McCown’s ceiling is 5 solid games a season, that’s what his career numbers tell you.

  34. biff barker Says:

Rah held an open house night practice his last year here.
During a QB passing competition, Freeman took out the golf cart driver towing the target!

  35. eric2706 Says:

Excuse me while i get something off of my chest.

Hey joe. How about making a post where we who never liked josh freeman (even when he threw for 25-6) can vent about it so that loud mouth on the radio “who did a show with the guy for 4 years” can see it. Seems whenever we call his show with valid points. He either hangs up on us. Or never let’s us on air. I’ve sat on hold plenty of times when he starts kissing #5’s ass just to tell him how much “free” sucked. Yet he never wants to listen. But it’s ok. Unless you are on his show to kiss his ass or have no valid arguments to back your point so he can turn the tables and embarrass you you aren’t getting on his show. Hell at least JP would let you debate him with facts. And when you got him. He admitted it. Only time I listen. To that blowhard is when Joe’s on his airwaves.

  36. Pete 422 Says:

    Pablo sounds like Bob Dole.

  37. Mr. T Says:

For those of you who don’t like Pablo’s comments, don’t read them, problem solved. Personally I find them somewhat entertaining even amusing at times.

  38. Drew Says:

Pablo says Pablo likes wearing a sombrero when taking a siesta, drinking Pablo’s tequila under an oleander tree.

  39. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Pablo can siesta undr an oleander tree….but I would advise not eating any part of the tree.

  40. rayjay1122 Says:

@ Pablo. You want me to elaborate. Lol. If you have ever seen the movie the hangover, there is a line where one character tells the other the he is truly too dumb to insult. That kind of sums it up. There will be no further explanation as it is honestly not worth my time. This is a free country with no law against being a moron so do your thing dude. I am a Bucs fan and I am pulling for them to succeed regardless of who coaches, throws the football, catches the football, runs the football or defends the goal line. There are plenty of fans here who feel the same. You go ahead and keep being a 3rd person troll.I will not argue with an idiot because you will drag me down to your level and win with experience.

  41. Buc the Haters Says:

@ FlMike, It’s pretty ignorant of you to base a guy’s potential solely on what he’s done in the past. People do have the ability to improve/progress/grow/learn…. Silly comment & viewpoint there, buddy.

  42. Tampabaybucfan Says:

under….for those of you who are sensitive about those things!!

I’ll take a cut at it………. Pablo is a douche?

  44. William Says:

If the past = the future the Bucs would have 13 Lombardi trophies… lol

  45. Mumbles Says:

I don’t care who throws the ball as long as someone catches it!

  46. BoJim Says:

‘Sigh’ Josh will start. That’s why Lovie brought him here. If we win games with him hooray for us. If he gets hurt or sucks then we get our wish and Glennon steps in. I have no problem with Glennon sitting behind McCown for a while. It will only make him better. We will be better than last year regardless.

  47. Bk Says:

MG8 fan club you are all delirious. Follow the money, Who is making almost 5 million this year? It’s not MG8. Hence he will not start. Lovie is going to go with what he knows until MG8 can prove himself. I love your energy but the Joes got this one right.

  48. buc4lyfe Says:

Schiano is a Damn psycho and played favorites and regardless off he was right about Freeman or not the way he went about our was pathetic. Consider how bad the o line played what If Glennon got hurt what’s behind the rookie? Right or not he still gets no credit for decidingDaniel Te’o-Nesheim was a starter. With that being said Glennon isn’t the starter because I’m sure the new staff got here and saw how poor his deep ball accuracy was and how pathetic his sideline passes were…..talking about how receivers had too get used to how accurate a rookie was coupled with that stupid 30 yard bullet comment be made is why Schiano may never even be able tho get a job in the nfl again

  49. PRBucFan Says:

Again with the future garbage lol.

Have you been to the future to know whether Glennon is the Bucs future?

Cause all he is now is a man that as far as we know will get a “chance” to be the future.

His success is far from guaranteed.

  50. Ramon Says:

Ramon was pleased by Joe’s meltdown following us skipping picking a QB in the draft and Glennon being pegged as the QB of the future…it was truly an EPIC for the ages.

  51. Couch Fan Says:

If this is true then great. Will be nice to see a competent vet QB for a change. However, pin point accuracy against air and live action are 2 different things. I’m with holding judgement. But its just crazy to me how most are enamored with a career back up but absolutely refuse to give Glennon a chance.

  52. Buc the Haters Says:

@ Biff Barker, Hilarious. And seemingly accurate.

  53. Paul Ch Says:

I thought Mike Glennon was throwing against 2nd string defense..

  54. "Skyline" Says:

Skyline thinks it is good if McCown is the starter. Let Glennon develop. Nothing wrong with that.

  55. White Tiger Says:

This is the Jerry Goldstein argument. Back-up mob, please stop being so predictable.

McCown will be the starter – because he’s better than Glennon. Glennon has a few years of learning to do – and even then he’ll still have slow feet and a slow release. Think of him as Matt Cassell.

(Hint: “Ol’ Slow-Hand” …is not a positive nickname when you’re trying to become a permanent starting QB in the NFL.

  56. MadMax Says:

Im seriously pulling for McCown. If he’s our guy over Glennon while he gets some much needed coaching, and competition shows he’s our guy over Glennon, Im all for it. I hope those 5 games last year werent a fluke. And hopefully MG8 has time to grow and improve.

  57. FanOfBucs Says:

    Stanglassman ftw!

“Verner has no idea what he is talking about I guess he hasn’t been reading the comment section on JBF enough to really know what going on.”

  58. Rex Says:

Pablo should just shut up and let the people who know football talk

  59. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    You are all idiots. Why?

    Two reasons:

1, You are too stupid to realize that talking in 3rd person about Pablo is only giving him the attention he desires, so it is counter-productive.

2, You are putting too much faith in an unproven quarterback who wasn’t good enough to be drafted in the first round and was bad enough to be benched and reeplaced by a backup.

  60. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    MadMax Says:

    “I’m seriously pulling for McCown.”

Johnny would have done it himself, but hey, if you are into that… 😉

  61. MadMax Says:

@Bonzai, you did it….hahaha, I knew I was setting myself up for something right as I was posting it, just wondered if and who….ROFL!

  62. Trubucfan22 Says:

You people are crazy. Glennon is terrible. Glennon is what we call a “practice hero”. Someone who performs well in practice but sucks during the games. Glennon can throw a perfect spiral on the money to uncovered WRs. But come game time he throws the ball away or takes another sack. Glennon is not the future, licht just didn’t have a chance to draft the qb he wanted. There always next years draft class though.
