“Our 2s And Our 3s Sound Like Our 1s”

Teaching is getting through fast and deep, says Jonathan Casillas.

Teaching is getting through fast and deep, says Jonathan Casillas.

Bucs veteran strongside linebacker Jonathan Casillas has a Super Bowl ring and is entering his sixth season. He’s seen plenty of football.

But it’s what he’s hearing that impresses him most about the new Bucs defense.

In a 1-on-1 chat with Joe this week, Casillas explained that the intensity, awareness and competence run deep.

“I like it, man. Everybody’s out here communicating. Our 2s and our 3s sound like our 1s,” Casillas said. “You know, usually you get a dropoff a little bit in communication, maybe not talent, but in communication. But it’s sounds like the first group, you know. All the guys are flying around. We’re out there making plays. We’re having fun. That’s what football’s all about.”

Joe was really pumped up to learn of this. It sounds like depth is being cultivated and developed.

Casillas can hear it already.

Oh really? And who exactly(by name are these wonderful #2’s and 3’s) Funny that if you look at our depth chart specifically at LB and haven’t heard a word about any of them from the “media” IE …..WE DON”T HAVE ANY…Even Casillas is a stretch a starting LB >>IMHO

  2. MadMax Says:

    na, not buying it….

  3. SAMCRO Says:

    Go back to bed Brandon!

  4. GlenninGrad Says:

We’re all having fun=We’re all trying to make money

  5. MadMax Says:

Everybody is out there getting along….thats all.

Shoot, this is Lovie, get along if you arent going all out! And if Lovie isnt saying this, HEY LOVIE, HEAR THE FANS! Yeah, We’re here! Pressure IS ON Big Man!

  6. Bucsfanman Says:

Boy, talk about throwing a mildewy, dank, wet towel on the positivity!!!
This should be music to Buc fans ears. DEVELOPING TALENT.
Way to bring the joy fellas!

  7. MadMax Says:

Pressure is ON @Bucsfanman…. I cant speak for everyone, but this mess of mediocrity and disappointment we’ve been fed for the last 5 years as hardcore fans, is frigging reaching the breaking point!!!!

  8. Patrick in VA Says:

I’m pretty pumped about this season. Granted, it’s a familiar feeling that usually shows up around this time of year but if we can’t get excited about our team then there’s no reason to follow them. I think this is going to be a great building year and year two will be awesome. Hopefully I’m wrong and we won’t need the building year.

  9. pablo Says:

    We shoulda kept Dekoda Watson

  10. biff barker Says:

I’m thinking Cartillas is going to have a career year in this defense. Interesting what he said about the talent level being similar but the communication can be an issue.
I always felt Dekota Watson was a physical freak but his read and react ability was average at best.

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Pablo……what happened to your third person?

Here are undeniable facts….Lovie is a defensive minded coach. Lovie & Licht drafted only offensive players….
Conclusion…..Lovie & Licht were/are very happy with their defensive talent.

  12. pablo Says:

    @TBBF

Pablo didn’t need to talk in third person in that particular comment. Joe doesn’t talk in third person 24/7 .. but if it makes u feel better I will repost my comment …

Pablo thinks we shoulda kept Dekoda Watson

  13. ruggyup Says:

Has the season started yet or, what am I missing in this fairy tale?

  14. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ pablo

Thanks….it made TBBF happy….and there is nothing better than TBBF happy on Friday….(except Saturday) and during the season (Sunday)….

  15. pablo Says:

No problem, Pablo is always here to help TBBF

  16. Brandon Says:

Guys, give it a rest, improve your comprehension by reading all the words… he said, “They SOUND like…” Meaning they communicate like starters… that’s all.

  17. PRBucFan Says:

You don’t have to recognize the names on the depth chart for his comments to be valid people.

There will be surprises and players that rise whose names we haven’t heard much of before.

  18. Dougy balls Says:

Doug said Pablo is an idiot

  19. buccanAy Says:

Congrats Brandon…the only one who understood what Casillas was trying to say. Which speaks to how hard the entire defense seems to be working for the “comprehension challenged”

  20. Chef Paul Says:

    Patrick in VA,

That’s a great point. I’ve been reserving my emotions. Every off season lately has been so exciting, then the season a big let down. But this sentence: “but if we can’t get excited about our team then there’s no reason to follow them.” may have just changed my mind. Thank you for that!!

  21. teacherman777 Says:

    Jesus Junior likes Pablo.

I too shall begin to speak in the third person.

My insights into my Bucs are so wise, that referring to myself as “I” just doesnt give Me the respect I deserve.

So, Jesus Junior has said it before and Jesus Junior will say it again.

Schianos biggest mistake was “killing the fun” of playing football.

Lovie brings a chilled out, but intense vibe.

    And players are HAPPY.

And from what Jesus Junior knows about ballin. And Jesus Junior knows a lot.

Jesus Junior balls out when hes HAPPY and HAVING FUN

“We’re having fun. That’s what football’s all about.” -Jonathan Casillas

    He said it all!

    And Jesus Jr. agrees!

  22. Bob Says:

We don’t have any info on our depth because the media and specifically this site has spent countless hours writing about a player not even on this team.. Too think of all the wasted energy on one guy ismind boggling.. And to hear he’s been regulated to 3rd string makes me laugh.

Sir, your ludicrous thoughts are what are mind-boggling. If you don’t like the website, stop reading! –Joe

  23. owlykat Says:

We haven’t heard much on how the defense is doing learning the Tampa Two, so thanks for this story, Joe. At least all levels are picking up the new lingo and communicating very well and having fun. That speaks well of the coaching and and the effort being put in by the players.
