“The Bucs Love This Guy”

Another national insider claims Lovie is lovestruck

The smoke continues to seep out of One Buc Palace, and the odor reveals the Bucs are hunting for a quarterback in next month’s draft. And some paid to read the smoke are convinced the target of the hunt is none other than Johnny Football.

Last week, a Houston sports radio bigshot whose father is an assistant offensive line coach for the Cardinals thinks Bucs general manager Jason Licht and coach Lovie Smith have a crush on Johnny Football the way Joe does for Rachel Watson. Now comes another source saying basically the same thing. In a recent BSPN “Football Today” podcast, NFL analyst Matt Williamson claims he’s learned Lovie is lovestruck by Johnny Football.

Robert Flores: I was surprised when Manziel met with the New England Patriots but for some reason, I am even more surprised that the Tampa Bay Bucs are meeting with Manziel. Am I crazy?

Matt Williamson: It’s funny because very recently, I was told by a very reputable source that the Bucs love this guy and I almost fell out of my chair. I thought Lovie was going to be the most — not to say “boring.” He never has a flashy quarterback. He wants to win with defense and Cover-2 and is not going to alter things too much and have a good running game. We don’t want a big risk-taker at quarterback. But Lovie has been out of the league for a year. Maybe he is looking at things a little different?

That shocked me. I was told they won’t pass on him at [No. 7], that he is a great player and [Josh] McCown could hold down the fort in the meantime. I don’t think anyone looks at McCown as the long-term answer or a franchise quarterback. … I would think it has something to do with movement skills for sure when things break down because I had to put two-and-two together with the [Bucs offensive coordinator Jeff] Tedford connection.

Think of some of the guys he coached: Aaron Rodgers, Akili Smith. Some really athletic guys on the college level — of course Akili Smith didn’t work out [in the NFL]. I could see why Tedford would like Manziel over [Mike] Glennon. I can see why any team would be enamored with Manziel. I am not critical here.

Notice earlier that Joe referred to “smoke?” The draft is still 24 days away. Look, Joe would do cartwheels down Central Ave. in St. Petersburg if the Bucs tagged Johnny Football with the No. 7 overall pick to lead them out of 12 long years of despair and zero playoff wins.

Joe’s a cynical type. All of this chatter of the Bucs in “love” with Johnny Football has Joe spooked that it’s just a massive smokescreen planted by Bucs operatives.

Johnny seems to go a bit overboard trying to proove he likes chicks……that could actually mean the opposite!!!

  2. ForgotAboutDre Says:

To be honest, I’m more scared of him getting hurt than anything else. A small guy who scrambles a lot can be a bad combination.

  3. robert6 Says:

sorry joe, but I reached my JM limit. that combined with the Doug Martin hack piece. this place is a waste of time now.

    best of luck

See you soon, Robert. … Joe’s still yet to hear anyone detail anything that was unreasonable in the Doug Martin story from yesterday. But Joe understands, Joe was called a moron for suggesting hours after Lovie was hired that Darrelle Revis was a strong candidate for release or trade.–Joe

  4. bigpoppabuc Says:

If Lovie is on the JF bandwagon I wouldn’t be shocked… He seems to really value mobility in a QB now. He’s mentioned it a few times. Maybe that’s something he picked during his year off. With this dreadful QB class, if the Bucs take JF at seven, then Glennon hits the trade block immediately.

  5. Macabee Says:

Lovie is lovestruck by Johnny Football! Kabuki theater by the Bucs to get the Vikings who really is lovestruck by JF (but says they’re not) to move up one place to get JF and give the Bucs a 4th round pick. Licht is from the Belichick school of drafting.

  6. Chef Paul Says:

Maybe the smoke screen is the smoke screen. They lay it on so think, one can’t help but think its a smoke screen. Then it turns out its not a smoke screen. Everyone is shocked!!! And Johnny then brings a SB to Tampa, and steals all your women.

  7. Mike Says:

Joe…… Your JF spit is even more then Watson! It’s getting old! As you like to say “dude”

  8. Maze Says:

Is it a sign from the fooball gods. I see a lot of L&L gang sign flashing going on there between Johnny and his innocent looking lady friends. Man can the football kid pull some fine tail.

  9. Eric Says:

Lovie stated he wants athletes at every position.

    JF fits the bill.

Now if we can get the teams in front of us to take a stupid pill were in good shape.

Fire the cannons…..JF is in the house.

  10. Patrick Says:

Just draft Johnny and if he busts we can go back to McClown lol.

  11. Jason Says:

I have to say I agree with robert6. Between the 70 JF stories a day and the BS Doug Martin hack job, I am done with this waste dump untill after the draft. Joe’s you are a sorry excuse for sports journalism at this point. GOODBYE

Joe’s always happy to thin the herd of the unappreciative and those who fabricate. –Joe

  12. brandonbucfan Says:

IF the Bucs aren’t truly in love with a QB at #7 one thing to consider is a trade down with the Giants. Rumors of Eli past his prime have been all around the rumor mill. The Giants get the heir apparent to Eli and we pick up another pick and still get a decent WR in Rd 1 and a shot at a QB in RD 2 or take the GIants extra pick and move back into RD 1. The scenarios are endless!

  13. Luther Says:

I kind of like the the lovefest and I hope he is gone before we pick. I want Mike Evans and 7 and would hope the Bucs move up to take Garoppolo or Carr in the late 1st round. All this Johnny Football stuff is just comedy.

  14. tmaxcon Says:

It’s called community relations. It’s a tough job but someone has to doit. Plus if he doesn’t pose for said pictures he gets labeled an arseHole.

  15. Mr. T Says:

Given all the Bucs love Johnny smoke he would appear to be the least likely candidate we’ll be drafting. Still think this is to get someone to trade up for him if he is still there at 7, we’ll see.

Make sure the door knob doesn’t hit you on your ass on the way out.

No one forces you to read; no one forces you to comment.

You people make me sick. Yeah I said, “you people.”

BTW James Wilder JR a been arrested in Tampa for driving on a suspended license.

  18. bucrightoff Says:

Bucs doing what they have to to try and ensure all 3 QBs get taken before 7, leaving the Bucs options on which very, very good talent to choose from rather than which question marks to choose from. Smart play if it works, and hopefully it does. Then again it might totally backfire and the Bucs have all 3 QBs at 7 which would be a total disaster. At that point the Bucs move back, they have to, and maybe snag a corner in the 12-15 range instead, pick up an extra 3rd or 4th.

  19. lightningbuc Says:

The picture above depicts two of John’s pullees who are indicating something is about 4 inches. These ladies are confirming what we thought all along – John is small.

  20. Corey Says:

For those who are worried about Manziel running too much and getting hurt, look at Russel Wilson.

Dude scrambled a ton at Wisconsin/NC State. Look up his college tapes, looks very similar to Manziel.

  21. Couch Fan Says:

I always get a good laugh when I read comments from people who claim to hate articles. You would think seeing the picture and the headline that they would skip right over it considering they hate it sooooo much. But yet here they are, complaining in every single article and taking the time to comment and tell us all how much they hate it.

  22. WalkdaPlank Says:

What is it now, 4, 5, 6 days in a row now with Johnny articles? You must be bored out of your mind Joe.

Heaven forbid Mancrush is drafted by the Bucs, it’ll be renamed JoeJohnnyFan. 🙂

  23. terrance from philly Says:

when did this become johnnyfootball.com? i want the guy to but sheesh

  24. William Says:

    Shaw is coming to Tampa.

  25. Nick H Says:

This same regime also told Donald Penn they can’t wait to get to work with him so…

  26. Gt40bear Says:

    meh.

  27. Daffy Buc Says:

Don’t listen to the haters Joe, they can cheer for the Bills. Doing a great job!! Looking at the 20 free agents we signed, its obvious lovelite not in love with the roster. They would love to add lots of “their” guys in the draft. Look for a trade down in rounds 1-3.

  28. Patrick in VA Says:

Christ almighty guys. We’re deep into the off-season right now. What in the world do you guys want them to write about? If you’d prefer there one article come out every couple days then I’m sure they could keep it to the midst applicable stuff but they’re trying to give us something to read and discuss when there really isn’t anything out there. You’re asking them to manufacture news and then getting mad about what they come up with. I’m not a Manziel guy and I’ll give the Joes a ribbing for their take on it from time to time but let’s take it down a notch and realize that just because we want the season to start doesn’t mean that it has and ultimately we’re in the middle of the nfl news dead zone.

  29. Bucs Fan Says:

So Joe will you ACTUALLY do cartwheels down Central Ave. in St. Pete if the Bucs pick Manziel?!?

  30. Skipper Says:

See ya Robert6 and Jason. Mike you can pass on the Johnny Football stories, there is alot of other material in here for you. Joe, I for one am like you. I am all in on Johnny Football and might just join you for those cartwheels should he fall the the Bucs at 7. Tedford did say he wanted an athletic QB.

  31. Jeagan1999 Says:

I think Joe needs an intervention to get over his “Johnny Man-Love” addiction! It’s ok, Joe…we’re all here for you! Soon the draft will be over and he will be riding the pine on another team and you can move on! But first, things first…you have to admit you have a problem so you can move past it!

  32. JMN Says:

JM looks 16 in that pic and not even close to having the body of an NFL QB. I’ve never questioned his playing ability. Dude can play some ball! But the way he runs around, he will get destroyed in the NFL by guys twice his weight. He will be a bust because of injuries.

  33. John McKillop Says:

Hey Joe’s ignore the haters. Here’s my take on the draft.
One thing Ive learned is that the draft is a lottery. Big names like Geno Smith, Justin Blackmon and even RG3 with the injuries have crumbled at the pro level while relative unknowns like Russel Wilson, Kiko Alonso and Tom Brady come out of nowhere.

On any given year, 10% of the first round picks will fail. QB is particularly vulnerable to this. Coaching, protection, scheme and skill position players can make or break a QB early. You really have to build the team first, then draft the QB

  34. Buc1987 Says:

    Bleck!

  35. John McKillop Says:

Hey Joe’s ignore the haters, they to visit the site everyday, if they don’t like what you have to say, see ya! Here is my take on the draft in general.

  36. Ernest T. Bass Says:

Those are the two babes who were waiting for Johnny in the car when he finished the wonderlic in record time!! That’s not a gang sign, its the Sex Pistol sign!!

  37. Oil Derrick Brooks Says:

This is how you bait the Jerruh Jones hook. Let’s reel in the extra picks.

  38. Harry Says:

    @TBBF
Really? Yeah, I am sure in your college days that if two hotties like those two wanted to take a pic you would have had a tent in your pants. Come on man, that sounds so stupid.

  39. JGM 2.0 Says:

I literally just wrote a full paragraph about why I like Johnny Football. It explained what I felt about his upside and how I felt it could lead to Championship Caliber Football.

With that said, the paragraph was about why we shouldn’t draft Johnny Football because I thought he would demand a $20-25 million salary as soon as eligible. I wrote about how this would lead the team into a decline due to cutting cost of other Positions.

I mean the Saints haven’t won since giving Brees the giant contract. The Ravens look hopeless after signing Flacco to that huge deal. The Packers can’t get out of the 1st round since giving Rodgers the huge deal. I recognized all that then deleted it.

F*** the attitude! If Johnny Football can come in here and give the Bucs a chance to make several deep runs into the playoffs then let it happen!

Once we sew up a solid young offense (which reasonably could be built around Mike James if Doug Martin were traded) and start actually drafting well for the next 5 years. We could afford a top paid QB like Johnny Football and be legitimate for the next decade.

I wasn’t, but dammit Joe, I am onboard the Johnny Football Bandwagon. Lets go Bucs!

  40. Eric Says:

    That’s an L for Lovie!

    Go Johnny Football!

  41. Tackleblockwin Says:

I don’t get it. So many Bucs fans can’t stand the guy. He would be so fun to watch. Like I’ve said millions of times, he is not the best player in the draft. Probably not even top 10. But we have never had a guy like this take the field for us at QB. Fun to watch, gives 100% every snap, and certainly has room to improve his game. Go get him Lovie!

  42. knucknbuc Says:

Thank god lovie isn’t astonished by mediocre to horrible qb play like these glennonites would have if they were coaching the bucs.

Draft Johnny football trade up to 2 if you have to.

  43. BucFan20 Says:

Lovie loves this one. Lovie loves that one. Lovie will draft that one at number 7. He will not pass? I would love that! Glennon leaves. Makes all the haters happy. McCown goes down and the excuses start when things go wrong. Johnny was put in to soon and was not ready. The line was Bad. And so on.

One thing Nobody knows we will stay at #7. I wish the draft would get here to see if they fooled everyone and draft nobody all the experts predicted.

  44. Barry Says:

I’m a MG8 mark. However; I do admit JM would make TB a national (Primetime) player. If they love him they gonna have to move to get him.

  45. OAR Says:

Funny, I have heard and read ol’ Johnny ‘Beer Bong’ had big hands? That girl on the left has bigger ones than him.
BTW that’s not a “gang” sign or a “sex pistol” sign, it’s the sign for “L”oser!

  46. OAR Says:

    Hey Joe
Do you actually have any pictures of Johnny “WC Fields” Manziel in a football uniform or actually playing football? That is afterall all any football fan is interested in not. The only pictures you post make him look like a barstool a$$clown!

  47. buccanAy Says:

I think Joe needs to reach out to the Pewter Inquisition’s self-appointed judge of character and religious guru to perform an exorcism of this demon that has possessed him.

  48. JBFstalkingjohnnyfootBALLS Says:

I would love to take all bets that Johnny not a target of the Bucs. The more they link Johnny to the Bucs, the better position there are in to get the guy the want. It’s gamesmanship.

Did anyone hear the comments on Clowney by “anonymous NFC executive”. “He’s spoiled, and he’s lazy,’’ the NFC personnel man told Eckel. “He’s never worked hard a day in his life, now all of a sudden you’re going to give him a bunch of money and expect him to work hard. I don’t see it.” Who you think that could be have been behind that. The Bucs?? The Falcons?? Remember who leaked out info on Warren Sapp? The Bucs and Rich McKay. “Allegedlly.”

  49. tmaxcon Says:

I can’t understand why a red blooded male would rather look at a man in a football uniform versus a couple hot chicks posing with a nice young man. It’s hilarious how quickly the mob comes to defend their boy Glennon yet it’s open season on Johnny. It’s a two way street folks.

Never trust a man that complains about good looking women

  50. Patrick in VA Says:

Not a betting man but I have a strong feeling that we’re going to see a couple new handles here in the comments sections with surprisingly similar commenting styles as Robert6 and Jason here soon.

  51. lightningbuc Says:

Where, in this thread, did anyone complain about good looking women?

  52. Joe Says:

Never trust a man that complains about good looking women

    Indeed!

  53. Patrick in VA Says:

@tmaxcon – try going house shopping with my wife and you’ll be complaining about one as well

  54. Chris Says:

Can’t wait for the Joes reaction When all this A&M interest is for mike Evans and we get Jimmy Garoppolo in round 2. Dude is just a perfect fit in Tedfords offense.

This Johnny love is all smoke.

  55. Chris Says:

I don’t get what joe sees in Manziel. He can’t really come back at me and say why he has zero pocket discipline. Why the heck is he scrambling around like a chicken with his head cut off when there is open wrs? He plays that style he’s going to learn real fast it’s unsuccessful.

Manziel is a huge project and has a long way to go as a pocket passer and some of his weaknesses in the pocket are things that many feel can’t be learned.

Ppl want to throw the Russell Wilson comparison bc of athleticism and height. Wilson is far more and was far more advanced as a prospect from the intangibles aspect. He is a great athlete but he possesses excellent pocket presence and can make the reads and has that quick twitch. Johnny doesn’t have that.

  56. Thomas Says:

I think Lovey does like him, but I also think he is hoping to sucker some other team into trading up for Manziel and giving us some serious extra picks for it.

If another team gives us 3 or 4 picks in this year’s draft it would help us in so many ways.

THe more I think about it though, the more I think its gonna be WR/QB/WR in that order, then O-Line the rest of the way

  57. Eric Says:

Stats show JF completed more passes from the pocket than the other top prospects.

Just doesn’t look that way cause of his fantastic scrambles when he has to. And that’s what shows up on the highlight reels.

But if u watch his games he throws a lot of darts from the pocket.

He threw one of the best pocket passes I’ve seen from his own end zone vs Bama, hitting Evans in perfect stride down the right sideline about the Bama 40 for a 95 yard TD.

Lots of misconceptions about JF, one of which that he can’t throw from the pocket. He’s actually very good at that.

  58. Manzielski Says:

“The picture above depicts two of John’s pullees who are indicating something is about 4 inches. These ladies are confirming what we thought all along – John is small.”

Size 15 shoe, very large hands, and lots of very hot babes around him, yeah, that’s a sure sign of under endowment.

    @JGM 2.0

Dude, are you really concerned that JF will be so successful that after 5 years of greatness the Glazers will actually have to pay him what he’s worth? Time to find another sport to follow. Cricket perhaps.

  59. Sebastian Salazar Says:

I could be wrong but I think they are saying they love Johnny so 1 of the other QB’s (Teddy?) can fall to them and they take him instead. I can care less about individual workouts, I wanna see how a player does on the field and Teddy was arguably the best QB in college. He would be a perfect fit in Tedford’s offense as he can make quick throws and he is more athletic than people think. Pair him with a 2nd round WR and find a starting RG in the 3rd, the Bucs are starting to look really good.

  60. BoJim Says:

Joe has a mancrush. Joe will get a restraining order against him Joe has a boner. Joes jealous cuz JF can pull. Blah blah blah. Y’all think you’re stand ups. It’s not funny anymore. As other have said, just skip over the articles.
