Murray Doesn’t List Bucs Among Interested Teams

April 9th, 2014

Joe’s ready to bet his house, dog and Sabby Piscitelli jersey on the Bucs drafting a quarterback next month, but Joe’s money isn’t going toward Aaron Murray, not after Murray failed to name the Bucs as a team pursuing him.

Murray, the former Georgia quarterback and Tampa native, spoke yesterday to Pro Football Talk on NBC Sports Network.

He was asked point blank what teams were hunting him, and the Bucs didn’t make the cut.

“A lot of talks with teams like St. Louis, the Saints, Jaguars, Cleveland, Jets, those are pretty much off the top my head right now some of the top teams. Oakland a little bit as well,” Murray said.

Murray is a quarterback Joe long has written would be a good pro and a likely “value” pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. And now that the SECs all-time leading passer is coming off ACL surgery four months ago, he’s almost certain to be available in the fourth round of this year’s draft. Very possibly, he’ll go in later rounds, given that he probably won’t be ready to play this season.

Joe is still high on Murray and definitely cringed a bit when the Saints were the second team to come out of his mouth. You can enjoy Murray’s full interview below. Interestingly, he talks about how hard it was for Georgia to prepare for Jadeveon Clowney.

I think most of those teams brought in Murray to get the scoop on Clowney. Murray and Johnny football. Set us like the redskins in 2012

Maybe he was told to stay quiet…

  3. Sweets Willie Says:

Murray with a 5th or 6th is okay. He was impressive against good defenses. Piscitelli had only one jersey sale during his tenure with the Bucs. The rest were sent to schools in Zimbabwe.

Come on Joe u should know better than that. If that’s their guy they y would they tip their hand. Everyone knows he’s a stand up guy comes from a good family and is a very cerebral quarterback. I still think he would b a steal in the 3rd rd. I would love to c them go WR, WR, then go QB.

  5. IMiss#40 Says:

Too bad, Murray is the best passer in the draft…the only QB besides Bortels worth picking.

  6. Dennis Says:

It could be bucs are keeping this secretive, and want ppl to think they dont want him. Then when the time comes pull the trigger without anyone expecting it.

  7. Matthew Says:

Watching Murray in college he did zero to impress me, similar to Stafford. Stats guys in meaningless games but rarely came to play vs the big boy defenses or important drives. Murray along with UGA during his tenure there consistently came up short. Pass

I’m sure if the Bucs were interested in Murray (who in my opinion has a lot of talent), they would only be too happy to let the other 31 teams in the league know about it. Come on, Joe…really? Put down the 12 pack and walk away, dude!

  9. Patrick McV Says:

I think we are still in it for Murray .

  10. jack Says:

Would be a great pick at 3 and if at 4 awesome. Most underrated QB in the draft

    Uh…..if he’s like Stafford, then that’s a GOOD THING!

  12. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

What does Murray’s girlfriend look like?

  13. BFFL Says:

    I’ll take your bet Joe

  14. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I was never really impressed with him either at Georgia, like Matthew said – especially against good defenses. Maybe I caught some bad games, but I didn’t like what I saw (in particular the Florida game two years ago where he was “turrible”). But of course since I don’t really like him, there’s a very good chance we’ll be drafting him.

No to someone coming off an injury. If Joe thinks he can sit a year then we will need a backup QB. Like Glennon? That would be ok with me.
