Shaun King: “I Don’t Think Johnny’s Going To Be A Successful Player”April 23rd, 2014
Joe’s a little annoyed this morning at former Bucs quarterback and current NBC Sports & Yahoo! Sports NFL insider Shaun King.
Today, King was on the Ron and Ian Show and did a complete 180 on his initial assessment of Johhny Football.
King, who in December called Johnny Football the next Russell Wilson, said deeper film study of Johnny Football and footwork he saw live in person at the Texas A&M Pro Day, among other concerns, lead him to believe Johnny Football will not be a winning NFL quarterback.
“I don’t think Johnny’s going to be a successful player,” King said.
Joe is shaking his head. Joe expects to talk to King more about this later this week.
King said he mingled at the Texas A&M Pro Day with Lovie Smith and Jason Licht and is confident wide receiver Mike Evans is a guy the Bucs like. King, however, said the Bucs will be “reactionary” and “fluid” in the first round of the NFL Draft. King said he doesn’t have a good read on whether Lovie would jump at the chance to draft Blake Bortles or Teddy Bridgewater, if available at the No. 7 overall pick.
King said he would draft Bridgewater.
As for what King, a lifelong Bucs fan, wants to see from his beloved Bucs, he said his first choice would be to see the Bucs trade down and come away from the first two rounds of the draft with “a quality wide receiver, an offensive lineman and a pass rusher.”
Joe would applaud that scenario, but not if the Bucs traded down after a shot to draft Johnny Football or Teddy Bridgewater. The Bucs need a QB with “franchise” potential. The time is now.
