Bucs Eyeing Eric Ebron?March 28th, 2014
Recent NFL history has taught us that possessing a freakish, athletic, pass-catching tight end creates nightmares for defenses. And a former scout and Lovie Smith colleague believes the Bucs might have their sights on this year’s edition in the NFL Draft, Eric Ebron out of North Carolina.
NFL Network draft guru Mike Mayock bowed to Ebron’s ability recently, saying he would be a top-10 talent in any draft. “He’s athletic, he catches the ball easily, he’s a natural hands catcher,” Mayock told NFL.com. “Everything I’ve seen about Ebron screams top-10 talent.”
Ebron had had drops issues, including at his Pro Day this week, but longtime Bears scout and Lovie friend Greg Gabriel, now writing for NationalFootballPost.com told WDAE-AM 620 yesterday he believes Ebron could be in play for Lovie and the Bucs. (You can hear the full audio below.)
Given offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford’s interest in using multiple tight ends, a fascination that grew for him after spending time with Bill Belicheat and Josh McDaniels, Joe could see the Bucs going in that direction, though it surely wouldn’t be Joe’s first choice.
