Brooks Says “Ingredients” Are “Win Now”

March 14th, 2014

BrooksLovieJoe’s maintained numerous times that while Lovie Smith is enjoying a glorious honeymoon period now and has a big contract, the reality is Lovie faces the demand of every NFL head coach in these crazy-fun times of impatient fans and owners: win now.

Bucs icon and Hall of Famer Derrick Brooks  took to the WDAE-AM 620 airwaves this morning and talked about the pieces in place for Lovie.

“They have a lot of ingredients there that says, ‘Win now,'” Brooks said.

While many fans think former rockstar general manager Mark Dominik was a heinous personnel man who crafted a colossal mess, Brooks is not in that camp and believes the Bucs failures last season weren’t all about talent.

“I really didn’t think they were far away last year. It was just, you know, a lot of distractions away from the field that I think creep in and affected this football team,” Brooks said.

You can catch Brooks on the radio below. (FYI, Brooks’ cell phone drops out but he comes back about the 9 minute mark.)

You should of had a printed transcript of all Brooks had to say.

He also said that all that Lovie’s declaration of McCown
as the starter only means that McCown will get the first
snaps in camp. Maybe the legendary Derrick Brooks
    is a MGM member?

Lol…..actually I don’t care that much. May the best QB
win. I may lose my MGM card, but I think McCown
will win the competition (and there WILL be competition).
However I don’t think Johnny will do this team one
bit of good other than short term hype.

    Word!…and happy Friday.

also, schemes so poor that players were rarely in the best position to be successful and it was like the other team was reading out of your playbook on both sides of the ball. i can appreciate that Lovie\Licht only have one shot to assemble talent on this scale for 2014, but they might be pleasantly surprised with some of the holdovers when they start practicing. more than a handful of guys had their true ability masked by the bad scheme, but they can’t assume improvement\success from current players – that’s what got the last regime in hot water and left us exposed at multiple positions every year.

@BucFan37 – Perhaps Joe should bake cookies for you, as well.

See now that is my biggest factor into liking Lovie. Especially over fulls like Schaino. He embraces the old Buccaneer icons and have welcomed them with open arms since his arrival. We all already knew that Warren Sapp has been a steady mentor for GMC alone but now you have guys like Brooks joining in to give his experiences and mentor ship. I haven’t seen Sapp, or Brooks around the team since they were each ousted by the current regime of their respective time frames. Gruden/Sapp and Dominik/Brooks. I am so happy to see all the old Bucs come out of the wood work to embrace this new team and offer their guidance.
