Bucs Look Toward Gamble In PhillyJanuary 11th, 2014
The Bucs appear to be widening their search for the right 1b to Lovie Smith’s 1a.
Longtime Eagles beat writer Les Bowen, of the Philadelphia Daily News, reports this morning that the Bucs will reach out to Eagles VP of player personnel Tom Gamble about their vacant general manager gig.
Gamble, whose father Harry was once Eagles’ GM and team president, joined the Eagles last season after the team recruited him from the 49ers front office, where he spent eight seasons and left as director of player and college personnel.
Losing Gamble would be a blow to Eagles general manager Howie Roseman, who pursued him for a few years as the replacement to Ryan Grigson, now general manager in Indianapolis. But Roseman, once criticized for a lack of personnel experience, has assembled a deep team in that area that includes former Steelers and Bills GM Tom Donohoe, former Saints player personnel director Rick Mueller and former University of Alabama personnel director Ed Marynowitz.
Gamble also is a former Jets assistant coach, and a scout for the Panthers, Colts and Ravens.
Bowen speculates that Gamble only would be interested in a GM job that offers him power over the roster.
