Mike Sullivan 3.0

December 22nd, 2013

The data is dreadful and telling

Put aside the excuses, the injuries and any other kind of spin. There is no excuse for the Bucs offense.

One stat today tells the story perhaps better than any other. The Bucs offense averaged 3.0 yards per play.

Think about that for a moment in the modern, quarterback-driven NFL.

Joe can’t imagine offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan has more than one game left wearing Buccaneers colors. He has to take the fall for the NFL’s worst-ranked offense. The Bucs had a chance today to go out and play loose and creative and open up the game. But they very much did the opposite.

They failed in all phases of offense.

As former Bucs tight end Anthony Becht noted on the Bucs postgame radio show, today was yet another sub-200-yard day by the Bucs offense — 170 net yards to be exact.

Sullivan and Greg Schiano said with straight faces that Mike Glennon gave the Bucs the best chance to win games, and that they were working harder than imaginable to rectify the offense and find answers.

Well, they haven’t found answers. Defenses are drooling at the chance to play the Bucs.

Those familiar second-half woes? They were back again today. The Bucs scored three big ones after halftime.

Sullivan will do well at Army with those numbers.

  2. RastaMon Says:

    Zero offensive weapons……

  3. Hawaiian Buc Says:

This team only calls the plays they practice. I wish they would stop practicing the first down run up the middle.

  4. EP Bucfan Says:

Pathetic, just give him a one way ticket to Army from STL!!!!!

  5. Mr. Patrick Says:

Coming into today, the two teams in the NFC that had scored the fewest amount of points are the Bucs and the Giants. So considering that Buc’s offense was designed to be similar to the Giants, what’s that tell you. And Giants have an All Pro QB running theirs. Scrap it, it doesn’t work any more in the modern day NFL. The numbers don’t lie

  6. bubashep Says:

If this offense was a dog, I’d put her out of my misery.

  7. Laughing Stock II Says:

Can we cancel the game next week?

If the players are always playing hard according to the College Coach, then were lies the problem? Head Coach controlling everything?

I tell you what we are definitely THE LAUGHING STOCK II.

Is a shame when I actually am rutting for my team but wishing we loose so we can get rid of this College Experiment!

    Money Down The Drain!

  8. Couch Fan Says:

I was of the mindset that Sully deserved to take the fall for the offense. Now, I am thinking Schiano has to be accountable as well. This is his team and he is allowing the same crap week in and week out. The whole regime needs to be gone. That’s not fair to Glennon but in my mind it’s the only way to get back to the playoffs. Schiano + Sully is just not good enough. Olsen’s offense was better than this and thats just sad.

  9. Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Please get rid of this clown. The NFL figured him out a long time ago.

  10. oldfart44 Says:

I don’t really know, but I GET this bad feeling that he is being told what to do.

Glennon gives the Bucs the best chance to win? How do you drop from a top 10 offense to last place?

Is the OLine really at fault for many of the sacks, or is a super scared/careful QB to blame because he is following orders?

How could anybody in their right mind want, or expect this fool from Rutgers to return?

  11. Trubucfan22 Says:

    Glennon is officially terrible.

The rams have a good pass rush, but glennon’s inability to handle pressure and shake off defenders is embarrassing. As soon as someone gets within a few feet of him he curls up into the fetal position. It’s really sad seeing a rookie so scared so early in his career. He’s already got the David Carr syndrom.

  12. BucNasty!!! Says:

And the rams are loaded with play makers?? Stop it lmao Keller clemmons come on bro stop making excuses for Glennon he doesn’t have any play makers lol I bet Kelton clemmons would love to have v jax

  13. chickster Says:

he knows he has no assss they can drag him down with one hand and that’s whats embarrassing

  14. Bucnnole Says:

Please take the Army job… Please

  15. Eric Says:

So mcnulty, who has never been an OC other than at Rutgers, is the cure?

    Please.

But that’s where we are. Schiano back with his OC at Rutgers by his side with Glennon at QB.

Just can hardly hold back my enthusiasm for that.

  16. Trubucfan22 Says:

If schiano comes back I don’t know what I’ll do. I love this team with all my damn heart, but I don’t know if I could stand another season of this idiot. Mr. “We’re only a couple pieces away”. Or “just hold on a little longer, were building something special here”. Go f your self schiano. I want real buccaneer football back!

  17. BucNasty!!! Says:

@ eric I didn’t think I could get anymore depressed until Ni read you comment…dam that’s the sad reality we look forward to P.U.

  18. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Johnny “Football” Manziel would have been carted off in the first half with our OLine playing like they did.

  19. buc4lyfe Says:

so sad….when are people ever gonna learn

Mark it down if Greg Schiano comes back as head coach. Mike Sullivan will be scape goat number 2! Because he’s a dictator he’s not gonna go out and find someone with a decent resume why you ask? Because they’ll know more about head coaching than him and why hire a guy that will probably take your job and won’t let you dictate how he runs his offense….nope Schiano is gonna promote mcnulty, a guy with even less experience in the nfl than sully….as a fan i can choose what I let stress me, all I know is buc football but on black Friday me or Schiano gotta go. I’ve shown more loyalty than the glazers showed….gruden, dungy, sapp, lynch, booger, brooks, all cut, traded or fired. We used to fire coaches for not making the superbowl now all you need is is to keep players from quitting on you?

  20. Krock Says:

Everybody wants Sullivan gone but I bet you Gregory is telling him what to call, the man called a great season in 2012 but in Gregory’s eyes he was probaly airing it out to much for his liking and decided to dip his hands in the offensive play calling.

  21. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“Johnny “Football” Manziel would have been carted off in the first half with our OLine playing like they did.”

    ——

No, he would have actually escaped pressure, rather than stand like a statue waiting for the pocket to collapse. Glennon consistently stepped up in the pocket, running himself right into the pass rush.

I get it if you don’t think Johnny Football will be a NFL player. That’s a very valid argument. However, it’s stupid to believe that he’s going to take the same pounding that Glennon took today. But then again, like most people, I doubt you’ve ever seen him play.

  22. skelly Says:

Not even mad at you Sully….Good luck at Army. Its time for you to move on.

  23. BoJim Says:

Welll. After this loss we are solidifying our place in the draft. Now do we go for the OL or draft a DE/QB. Don’t know.

  24. Harry Says:

The whole crew has to go, they ALL have to be fired. Firing just Sully is not even close to being enough. The Rams are not great, but, once again we made them look like the old Hogs from the Redskins with John Riggins running the ball – AND WE KNEW IT WAS COMING AND STILL COULD NOT STOP IT!! And what did our Bucs average per carry? 1.9yds – pathetic.

  25. Gt40bear Says:

Mike freaking Shula’s offense was better than this! If the Glazers were going to make Dungy fire him, how does Sullivan still have a job?!

  26. Mr. Patrick Says:

Sully just running the offense under Schiano’s directive. I’m sure that Sully will be the scapegoat and the offense will be the same next year no matter who the OC is

  27. Destinjohnny Says:

Who could coach this offense with the lack of talent that they have- crap o line no tight end 1 really good reciver who boarders on great- everyone wants to bitch about how inept they Are – it’s a talent deficiency-
