Three Sacks, Two Completions

August 16th, 2013

Is it fair to judge Josh Freeman tonight on just two offensive series?

Of course. That’s all Joe and Bucs fans have.

Freeman was 2-for-3 for eight yards. He took three sacks, and at least one, possibly two, came because he held the ball too long.

Kevin Ogletree dropped a pass on Freeman on third down of the first series.

Ugly night for the Bucs’ first-team offense. Joe was having Raheem-era, slow-start flashbacks.

  3. jlynch Says:

duck when pocket collapses he is weak

  4. raphael Says:

    I’m not

  5. raphael Says:

    your stupid jlynch

  6. Ed Says:

Josh plays slow its a fast game he moves like a slug. What happened to the 2010 Josh who moved the chains with his feet as well as his arm?

  7. Hunter Says:

Worried?? Nicks and Joseph have yet to play. Revis isn’t in the mix yet. McCoy played 6 snaps tonight, David and goldson didn’t even finish the first series. Relax

  8. bucrightoff Says:

And Glennon threw a TD!!! Controversy!!! Or please come soon regular season, either one.

  9. jlynch Says:

rapheal write it down Freeman has no game!!

  10. Solaire of Astora Says:

Don’t know what game you were watching but our o-line and Martin was manhandled.

  11. Micronole Says:

At least he has 10 snakes!

  12. Drew Says:

No Fro Freeman! No Fro Freeman!

  13. Adam Says:

Half way through the preseason. Still haven’t gotten 2 PB guards back, biggest FA acquisition on the bench. DE disappointing and underachieving. QB looks lost.

I don’t see this team “turning it on.”

  14. travis Says:

I find it hard to blame Freeman. The line did nothing for him. On the play you say he held on too long, the announcers were complimenting the pass coverage of the pats.

  15. Dave Says:

First sack Martin ran into him and that disrupted the blitz pickup and Freeman.
2nd sack was ALL Josh holding the ball
3rd sack was Josh stepping up into the sack… the protection was there.

It seems like the natural instincts and flow of athleticism is leaving him as he tries to hard

  16. Drew Says:

Freeman looks like a Deer lost in the headlights just by the expression on his face.

  17. bucfan999 Says:

Freeman is a tease of a QB. A lot of potential, 6’6″ 240 lbs., strong arm that can throw every throw a NFL QB needs to be able to throw but there always seems to be something missing. To me he doesn’t have the swagger and ice running in his veins that an elite QB needs to have (I’m not sure he has the drive either).
I think he will be a QB that always teases of what he could be but he will never achieve his potential. This should be his last chance this year here in Tampa and he will in all likelihood be elsewhere next year.

  18. Drew Says:

    QB controversy!!! Yeah Baby!!!

  19. Splengo Says:

Josh Freeman was nowhere on the field when Tom Brady was carving us up like Xmas turkey. Better recognize where the problem is. Rutgers cannot win in the NFL.

  20. Drew Says:

Glennon definitely wants the starting Gig and Freeman will soon be demoted to the backup role and designated to another team.

  21. raphael Says:

jlynch …..got it, make sure you show up here in a few weeks, when it counts

  22. mitch Says:

Based off of last season, I dont think you can get a true feel for how the first team will do in the reg. season from the preseason because , I feel like, Schiano keeps the game plan extremely vanilla and wants to see how the other young guys perform. Moreover, Ill re-state, history shows preseason in general isn’t a reliable way to gauge success for an up-coming season. I firmly believe preseason is for development, game experience, and game tape for the young men trying to make this ball club or catch on somewhere else.

  23. Drew Says:

Father forgive me for I have sinned. I confess to being a Freeman hater.

  24. Ed Says:

Have to agree with bucfan999 being a great QB takes attitude. Josh doesn’t start fast he needs to pick up his pace. Brady knows where he wants to go with the ball, Josh is waiting on a receiver to get open. You can’t wait you have to anticipate, he doesn’t have that aggressive style. Can the Pro Bowl players on this team pull along a QB that 5 years in the league hasn’t shown the skill level or attitude to be the leader of the offense.

  25. raphael Says:

lol @ people reacting to a pre season game

  26. Ed Says:

I disagree it’s not the win-loss part of preseason, it’s how you play and the Bucs were clearly outplayed when the first teams of both teams faced off. The Pats were prepared to start the game from the beginning. The Bucs were confused on offense and Brady tore up their secondary as they have no pass rush.

  27. Kurius Boy Says:

Why are we passing so much on 1st downs? That’s the same predictable offensive gameplan we ran last year. Wheres the running, wide receiver screens, draws, bootlegs and rollouts?. I thought plays are supposed to be deceptive. Our offense is so predictable. We not giving Freeman or anybody a chance to prosper throwing the ball on every 1st down. Our OC needs to get it together. He’s hurting us for real.

  28. Zachary Stone Says:

Our 1’s were not even close to their 1’s- both sides of the ball. Brady has a pocket he could wine and dine Giselle in- ZERO passrush. So happy we didn’t opt for an elite pashrusher like Abraham, Freeney, Umi, or Harrison, clearly our passrush is fine as-is…. and Freeman looks like a first year player. Russel Wilson played faster his first preseason game. Some players are just winners, and others go to K-State and are mediocre for their entire careers.

  29. RastaMon Says:

If you don’t get what the passing game is in 2013 NFL……it ain’t the timing…mechanhics…precison of…Josh
oh the other hand based on the critera offer above the rookie is looking like he has all of the goods…

  30. Drew Says:

Glennon does have what it takes between the ears.

  31. Kurius Boy Says:

Glennon is playing against 3rd, 4th, and 5th stringers. Yall shut that QB controversy up. Dumb fans!

  32. Eric Says:

I’m waiting for the immense talent to shine.

  33. SteveK Says:

Glennon looks like a QB back there.

Freeman is our starter, but the ground between him and Glennon is not getting farther apart.

  34. Drew Says:

This dumb fan asks the smart fan to provide a smart answer to what has Freeman done in 2011 and 2012? No dumb answers allowed.

  35. PRBucFan Says:

He need to improve his pocket awareness and decisiveness. Ugly tonight.

  36. PRBucFan Says:

And use your legs dude!!! You can make plays with your legs, we have all seen it.

  37. BucsQcCity Says:

Paper champs with absolutely no dept

    Akeem spence looked good

  38. delson Says:

    Huh interception..

  39. Splengo Says:

That INT was for Drew. Lol.

  40. Kevin Says:

Can somebody please tell me WHY our corners do not play press coverage…and when then look like they’re playing press…THEY DON”T TOUCH THE DAMN RECEIVERS!!!!!!!!!!! WE ARE NEVER GOING TO GET A SACK OR WIN AGAINST A HIGH POWERED OFFENSE LETTING THESE PASS CATCHERS RUN UN INTERUPTED ROUTES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please someone tell me why. This is why I was calling for Bill Sheridans head last season. JAM THE GOD DAMN RECEIVERS AT THE LINE AND AT LEAST TRY TO DISRUPT THEY”RE RYTHYM!!!!!!!!!! If this is how our defense is going to play it doesnt matter WHO we have as our starters when were facing the high powered offenses in our division. Not one single play did we make contact within five yards of the line of scrimmage. I can’t watch stupid! I’ve been excited about all our new additions and Schiano but HOLY SHIT IT’S COMMON SENSE. I CAN”T WATCH THIS CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!

  41. tampa2 Says:

I actually agree with Raphael on this. Every – single – year you see teams going 1-3 or 0-4 in the preseason and then they end of going 12-4 or something in the regular season. Preseason has NO bearing on what will play out during the regular season. NONE. This applies to football, basketball, baseball, etc. How many yrs of sports do we gotta watch until we realize this for what it is. Some of you should know better. Step away from the ledge, put the gun down, whatever. Lets not all go kill ourselves over this. Sheesh.

  42. 321BucFan Says:

O’Line dominated by Patriots D. Buc offense looked horrible. Buc D no pressure on Brady. Buc D can’t cover RB in coverage. Hope this isn’t sign of things to come ?

  43. TJ Ware Says:

I know Joe has to generate Traffic on his page somehow…but gimme a break man its preseason we play them very soon, and we have both our guards missing..we will be fine…yeezus

  44. tampa2 Says:

Kurious Boy – Most teams don’t even gameplan in the preseason. Cmon man. If it looks this vanilla in October, then yeah you’ll have a point

  45. Buc1987 Says:

Well let’s just wait to hear what the coach has to say.

  46. Jktampa Says:

O-line sucked. Freeman sucked. Not a good showing but not panicking just yet. Take a deep breath guys, it’s just preseason.

  47. Travis Says:

2011 entire team regressed. They didn’t commit enough to Blount and the running game and left their d out too long because of it. That was the biggest issue IMO.

2012 his problems weren’t bad until we were getting blown out by first year QBs on defense and we needed Josh to put up way more points to correct for the d.

  48. Snook Says:

Freeman is a joke. He looks like a rookie. Start Glennon. Much more accurate and intelligent.

  49. Snook Says:

Glennon TD. No way Freeman would’ve completed that.

  50. Free's A Boob Says:

Freeman is as he described himself earlier this week, confused…after all this time. The clown is mentally deficient.

  51. Free's A Boob Says:

Welcome to a long season fans of 5

  52. Stranger Says:

What no. This game was on the offensive line and the coaching staff. Our defense was never set, every single one of our offensive linemen got beat, there was constantly 3 guys in our backfield, Martin got hurt, Blount looked solid, and our receivers weren’t getting open. But sure, let’s blame #5. The only time he ever had time was when he stepped up and hit Olgetree in the hands and to hit an open Crabtree near the flat. Glennon even got a shot against the Patriots defense and the results were the same, Chandler Jones in our backfield.

Let’s be fair now. We need our starters badly. Lorig, Nicks, and Joseph need to get as healthy as possible otherwise #5 will be the least of our problems.

  53. Stranger Says:

*Glennon got a chance against the Patriots first team defense

  54. Andrew 1 Says:

    PRESEASON

  55. Andrew 1 Says:

    that sums it up.

  56. 76buc76 Says:

Week 10 headlines. After coming from out of the cloud’s to win the starting QB for the Buc’s. Dynamite Daniel Orlovski has game managed the Buc’s to a 8-1 record.

  57. grif4foozball Says:

@ drew, please say 10 hail marys and hope that jfro pulls his head out of his ass to complete 1 and all the kool-aid (liberal)sippers will constitute that as a win.

  60. dmatt Says:

Josh is who we think he is…Josh Freeman. All the newby QB’s in the NFL (Wilson, Luck, RGIII, Kaperneck, Dalton,) r by passing him by proving what it takes to b a leader n play consistently n the NFL. If he chokes during the 2013 season, he’s going to hear from Goldson n Revis. I say we trade Josh n take a chance on drafting a new QB in the 2014 draft. This guy is ur typical dear in the headlight when he see Bears, Panthers, Birds, or, “oh when the Saints go rushing in”. Josh is something of an enigma. Plays good in scrimmage against own team, but can’t mimic that with live ammo;what’s wrong with that picture. Five years n the league n excuses r…had different OC, new system,no QB coach, give him another year. We need a Teddy Bridgewater, Tajh Boyd, or Johnny Football Manziel, a player who can lead n spark the offense with excitement. One who plays with guts, heart, n true grit.

  61. Yusef Says:

I’m a big freeman supporter, however its time for Freeman to show us something, no more excuses for a 5th year vet, yeah his offense line starters wasn’t out there, but dang, stop holding on to the ball..get rid of it!! Glennon played against backups, and by that i mean 3,4,5th stringers so yeah he looked pretty impressive against those guys..

However, to me and this is just me, regardless if Glennon would have played good or bad tonight, he seems comfortable out there he steps into the pocket with pose, his footwork is pretty good too….

I’m by no means saying Glennon should start or anything like that, but I loved the little things i saw from him. It’ll go a long way if Freeman plays bad this season.. I want Freeman to succeed really bad, but I’m getting frustrated with him, especially with all this talent around him..granted like i said before he disn’t have starting his o-line protecting for him but still, he shouldn’t be taking those sacks and ducking, he needs to step up into the pocket or get rid of it! I love you Josh…but this is getting old…very old…

  62. Stranger Says:

    @Yusef

He only had room to step up once. Did have room to run though. Maybe.

  63. grif4foozball Says:

What pisses me off is he still looks helpless and points fingers.

  64. delson Says:

I watched the game n he stepped up into the pocket. His tackles could not handle jones or ninkovich. The pats blitzed n got 1 on 1s. If ogletree would have caught that 3rd down pass i bet there would be a different tune being sung right now.

  65. Pewter Bullion Says:

    College coach, college QB…

As Buc fan, that is my fate this year…

  66. BucKing 3 Says:

O-line, especially Dotson, got absolutely dominated. Free can’t throw the ball if DEs are coming at him unchallenged. Hopefully we’ll see our true line next week and then we can get a fair assessment. Go Bucs!

  67. realtalkfaulk Says:

Its amazing how the successes of rookie QBs have skewed people’s minds. People think Glennon should start? The 3rd QB taken in a poor QB draft. He’s thrown 2 picks in 2 games against mainly back ups. But you want him to start against teams like the Saints, Falcons, Panthers, NFC West teams, Patriots. Meanwhile Freeman threw 27 tds last season in a new offense. I’m glad fans aren’t GMs because most of them are overreacting morons. I swear if it were up to fans they’d change QBs every 3 years.
