“He Just Plays God Awful”

August 20th, 2013

Hall of Fame QB Fran Tarkenton offered a scathing review of Josh Freeman today

Former That’s Incredible! host and Hall of Fame quarterback Fran Tarkenton verbally clobbered Josh Freeman today during an interview on WDAE-AM 620.

“He just plays God awful. … Josh Freeman has proven to me that he can’t play,” Tarkenton said.

There’s a lot more in the audio below. In case you were wondering, Tarkenton, 73, is not senile. Rays fans also might find it interesting that Tarkenton compares Freeman to B.J. Upton.

As Joe wrote yesterday, fan and media sharks are circling around Freeman. Joe doesn’t expect this to stop until Freeman has a strong September — if he has one.

Buc N Junkie is not gonna like this!

  2. the_buc_realist Says:

I smell a 4 game “tryout” for JFro-6pak. Then the Bye-week comes to get Glennon ready.

  3. bucrightoff Says:

Godawful is a bit much when there is Mark Sanchez, Blaine Gabbert and Tim Tebow in the league. Freeman is just maddingly inconsistent. But not too many QBs have 25TD 6INT seasons. Freeman doesn’t suck as bad as his haters think, but he’s also not a sure thing like his defenders believe.

  4. Oil Derrick Brooks Says:

The thing is, inconsistent is worse to me. If he was godawful, at least the team could quit wasting their time, and start preparing whoever is next.

    56 starts and counting.

  5. Gus Numbers Says:

I hope freeman reads all of this and elevates his game this year

  6. ShutTheBucUp Says:

I wish we’d all agree to shut the buc up about Freeman until we’ve reached the end of his second season in an offensive system.

  7. Snook Says:

    God awful is exactly right.

  8. Snook Says:

End of his second season in the system?

Why? What happens if Sullivan leaves after the season? Then does Freeman get a pass for 2014 too?

  9. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

LOL…I don’t think the boys at WDAE were expecting the “God Awful” comment. Hence the 6 minute interview. Unfortunately, I think Tarkenton hit the nail on the head on all counts.

  10. bucfever40 Says:

It’s funny, but I just heard Joe Theismann gush over Josh Freeman, so fan THOSE flames Joe!

  11. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

LOL…if the Bucs tank this year, Sullivan isn’t going anywhere except maybe the unemployment line.

  12. LUVMYBUCS Says:

So does this mean we’re rebuilding again?

Wait have we finished the 1st project yet?( What has it been 5yrs now)

  13. Bucnjim Says:

Tarkenton is a HOF QB no doubt! One of the best in his day. Problem I have is he was a trouble maker and got himself traded in his early days in the NFL. Had some success early, but I don’t think he made the playoffs until much later in his career. (could be wrong didn’t look it up) All three of his Super Bowls weren’t until he was in his 30’s and he got blown out of all three averaging about 7 points a game or so. This has nothing to do with his opinion, but he should look back on his own career when judging other young QB’s.

  14. Buc'n Junkie Says:

You’re right lightning, I’m tired of the piling on. They put a target on Freeman’s back and have gone out of their way to destroy this guys future. One year left on his rookie contract to redeem himself but the outsiders are going out of their way to drag this young man’s career through the mud. There has to be an agenda.

It appears none of the outsiders want to see the Bucs succeed. It’s almost like some kind of jealousy. This all started as soon as Dominik started spending money in free agency and they hired a college football coach. So many of them got their panties in a wad over Schiano last year. It’s like the media, including local, has a chip on their shoulder and they are trying to rub it in the Bucs orgs. face.

Now it comes down to. If Freeman plays and he plays fantastic in the beginning of the year will outside and local sources will probably ramp up their attack to see if they can rattle him more or will they concede that they were wrong to professionally try to destroy him. I say they never admit they prematurely tried to blackball him.

We went from chastising him about his consistency to a modern day cruxifiction of an athlete who has been nothing but a consummate pro.
With the regularity of these personal attacks he being painted in the court of public opinion worse than the criminal Ray Lewis ever was. This is sad that even before he’s given his rightful one more chance to succeed he’s already presumed a total failure.

  15. buc4lyfe Says:

i see why were rated the worse fan base in the nfl, you guys are horrible, joe himself at one point in training camp was talking about how accurate josh was in camp but everyone is on the bashing bandwagon and it’s worse than any year i can remember even though we spent more money this offseason. paranoid talk show hosts and writers arent helping. if i remember correctly the JAGUARS WENT 3-1 IN THE PREASEASON LAST YEAR, HOW DID THEIR SEASON TURN OUT!!!!

  16. joseph mamma Says:

Couldn’t agree more about the line he said about Freeman not being A. Rodger’s in his fifth year. There is no way he just becomes this elite qb in his fifth year period.

  17. lightningbuc Says:

    buc4lyfe,

Where’s the proof we’re the worst fan base? Jets fans don’t like Sanchez, does that mean they have a bad fan base also? I’m tired of guys like you and Buc Junkie telling those of us that have a less than rosy opinion of our quarterback that we aren’t true fans. That is silly. I love the Bucs – i just don’t care for Josh Freeman as a QB and for Mark Dominik as a GM. When Freeman is on the field, I will root for him. I’m just not expecting much.

  18. Sneedy16 Says:

They just need a target to complain about that’s all. It went from Michael Clayton, to Gaines Adams, to Donald Penn, to Gerald McCoy, and now Freeman. If it isn’t Josh they’re going to find someone else, like Dom or Bowers. I don’t see the point of commenting since it’s never ending. Pile on my good man pile on.

  19. Tampabayallday37 Says:

No Josh is not elite. But god awful? By no means. I project Free will have a good year around 3600 yd’s maybe 30 td’s. Now the question out there is does that translate to a WC berth? Free had 4000 yd’s with 27 td’s last year and we went 7-9. I think with an improved defense and potentially a stronger running game, Free will be able to lead Tampa Bay into January.

  20. Sneedy16 Says:

    @lightningbuc

When your QB had one of the worst rating in the NFL and is also known for the most comical play in football (Butt fumble). Then yeah you earn that. During the offseason I really don’t hear much from the Jets fans or media piling on Sanchez this offseason.

  21. the_buc_realist Says:

Funny how when you play well, then you don’t get “piled on” during the off/preseason.

  22. Gus Numbers Says:

They spend an hour bashing the team then turn around and tell people to go to the games. Not everyone is like us(those of us that read and comment on pages like this) they don’t know the day to day status of the team. All they have to go on is what they occasionally hear on the radio. And if all they hear is how bad the team is, why the hell would they want to go.
I live in the DMV. Redskins media was critical of the team but they always made it seem like their team had a chance. Even when Rex Grossman was their quarterback. It’s not just the fans in Tampa it’s the media that is also fair weather. Only when the team is playing well do they give any props at all. This is why I’ve stopped listening to 620. It does seem as if they have an agenda, which makes no sense! Judging Freeman WHEN HE HAS BARELY BEEN ON THE FIELD! Best thing to do buc fans is boycott them. I used to listen to them thinking I could get hyped for the season by the end of the show I have to wonder why I even watch football…..

  23. bucrightoff Says:

Lets be real, if the Jets had Josh Freeman and not Mark Sanchez either of the two years they went to the AFC Championship they would have cahsed in a Super Bowl. Josh Freeman is like Matthew Stafford and Jay Cutler, the numbers can be good, the consistent great play, particularly in the important games, just isn’t.

I’m not beholden to Freeman, if Glennon is the better QB great. But lets be real, hoping Josh fails means hoping our season is a disaster. I can’t believe people actually want that. Glennon playing means we’re on the way to 6-10.

  24. ShutTheBucUp Says:

End of his second season in the system?

Why? What happens if Sullivan leaves after the season? Then does Freeman get a pass for 2014 too?

Since Freeman began starting at QB there has been no consistency to the offense whatsoever, from players to playbook to coaching. Yes he had some pretty bad moments last year, but most of last year’s losses can be pegged on the defense. Plain and simple. Freeman is still maturing as a player. He’s 25 years old for crying out loud. If you failed to see promise and progress in his performance last year, then you are blind.

  25. Buc'n Junkie Says:

    @lightning

Well, for one thing you’re living proof of a bad fan.

You saying you Love the Bucs, is what I equate to loving needles shoved up my fingernails.

What? the media gives Sanchez more props than they ever give Freeman. In fact, they’re all predicting Sanchez to be the starter. Some of my NY friends that I know agree with that. So don’t pretend that you know, make sure that you know before you open your trap.

  26. buc4lyfe Says:

No ones hardly gotten a chance to see freeman play, last week he got sacked 3 times and the line couldnt block anything for him and were talking about how bad a game he’s had, if you dont have faith in our qb fine but if you are a fan be a fan…who on this team do we have faith in, i remember midseason every called in last year talking about how we were a playoff team, no one talked about how bad josh freeman sucked last year until he threw those int’s….fake fans, now if we get beat by the jets in game one then yea i would say go ahead and panic until then have alittle faith, schiano has built this team to be pretty tough so lets see him coach

  27. buc4lyfe Says:

every team has a weakness, you could argue seattle was a playoff team because of their 12th man and winning their games at home but what about away….every team is in turmoil that made the playoffs, the falcons o-line got worse, saints defense is more suspect than our offense, the niners lost crabtree and goldson, baltimore lost everyone, panthers havent changed much…personally everyone starts out 0-0 and it’s wide open with everyone picking the obvious teams from last year, theres always a team in the playoffs that wasnt last year, not every team has a franchise qb that are in the playoffs, i dont know if you guys know that or not…see christian ponder, this idea that everyone has to have a franchise qb to be a playoff team just means people watch to much espn. The qb position is just a hot topic, its better than talking about the o-line its the most glamorous position. flacco wasnt a franchise qb until the playoffs came, before the he played like garbage so like i said before freeman will produce or he wont be here so lets see how our season will go and stop the panic because he have barely seen our first team play yet

  28. Gus Numbers Says:

And I dont think anyone needs to treat Freeman like a God but he is a middle of the pack quarterback with potential to be better. That is about as accurate of description of freeman. But if you listen to the local media or the some of the comments on here you would think we had the worse qb in the league. I root for Freeman to succeed because if he does so does the bucs and that’s what everyone on here should want. I also root for Freeman as a person, no off the field issues hard worker and a good demeanor. Yet still the mans character gets judged. It’s sad when Freeman struggles you can see the haters smile. Wtf are they smiling and claiming to be buc fans!
When people argue the point of Freeman being a bad quarterback for so long, they want it to be true so they are right. So they can say I told you so. Doesn’t matter what happens to the teams as long as their opinions are right.

  30. lightningbuc Says:

    buc4lyfe,

LMAO! You said we were the worst! This just says we are in the lower 11. Good proof!

  31. lightningbuc Says:

    bucjunkie,

Just because Joe referred to one of your posts today as a “HATE ATTACK” on him doesn’t mean you have to be nasty to everyone else.

  32. Buc1987 Says:

Why I will no longer blog with you so-called Buc fans anymore.
Last night I went around and checked out blogs from other teams sites. Just to compare their fans to ours.
I went by their records last year so I picked 4 teams that had pretty dismal records in 2012.
I wanted to check how pissed off they were at their team, their GM’s or certain players.

Raiders 4-12 – A little complaining mostly back and forth to eachother not much bad stuff said about the team at all.
Eagles 4-12 – Very very little complaining at all.
The Jaguars 2-14 – None at all. A little worry over Gabbert, but virtually no complaining at all.
The Lions 4-12- Just as bad as you people are in here. Mostly complaining about Schwartz though, not much else.

Now not to direct you off of this WONDERFUL site, but if you get a chance google a few of them sometime.
So maybe you can see just how ridiculous some of you are towards MY Bucs. Some of you are not only ridiculous, but make me disgusted that you call yourselves fans. I think the REAL fans know who I’m talking about. I’m not going to single anyone out, they do a good job of it all by themselves. Just google some of those other teams and compare like I did, it’s a real eye opener.

I was so glad when I found JBF. Now I wish I never found it. You so-called fans have opened my eyes to something I wish I never knew. Oh how bad I’d love to call out the names of like 9 of you that don’t deserve this team. It’s okay though as I probably will never see ANY of you attend a game anyways, unless the team goes 10-6 or 11-5 someday. I’m typing all this as reminder to the REAL fans that are still here. Look out for these people, these people they are not hard to find. Don’t let them bring you down on OUR team. Peace out and Junkie I look forward to tailgating with ya, a REAL fan.

  33. the_buc_realist Says:

I think bucnjunkie has jumped off the deep end. His world has crashed around him. Denial can be an ugly thing. LOL

  34. Couch Fan Says:

Winning cures all. Something Freeman has rarely done or played well enough to do. He gets paid a hell of a lot of money to win. Until he starts winning all the criticism is warranted. It comes with the job. Fans want there team to win. People need to quit crying about it. Saying we are the worst fan base is just stupid. LMAO

  35. ShutTheBucUp Says:

Well said Buc1987! I think I’ll be applying the YouTube rule to JBF. No more scrolling down to the comment section. Your IQ immediately drops after reading some of these idiotic comments.

  36. Couch Fan Says:

The Freemanites sure are a sensitive bunch.

  37. buc4lyfe Says:

    lightningbuc

what is it you work for joebucsfan? im not bashing joe, im not saying i have to provide proof to anything, i thought i would post it just to post it dude, me saying we have the worst fans is my personal opinion. It doesnt matter if josh freeman is brady like or sanchez like, HE’S OUR QB and pouty fans cant run him out of town. i defend josh because i want us to win, i want us to reach the playoffs finally. If sapp says he wish he had josh in his prime then thats saying something to me…stop putting so much stock into preaseason, i hate falcons, i hate the saints because their in our division and because of drew brees they are picking saints to get a wild card well im calling shenanigans, you need defense just as much as you need a qb. get on the bus or find another team, one player even the qb isnt enough reason to complain about our team, carl nicks either because we played without him AND davin joseph so atleast were getting one of them back…ogletree another year for martin…we have talent so as bad as people think freeman sucks he still had us in the thick of the playoff hunt at one point last year so with a defense that lost games for us, you think he cant atleast do what he did last year now that we have a better defense…thats just stupid

  38. Buc Fan #238 Says:

1987… a REAL fan would be upset that the starting QB is about to be a bust.

That means 2013 season may be down the tubes.

A REAL fan will gladly welcome the NEXT man UP… Glennon that is.

  39. Gus Numbers Says:

No. @couch fan The “Freemanites” are just defending their starting quarterback. Getting back to the topic of the article. This guy said Freeman has is a horrible quarterback. FREEMAN IS NOT A HORRIBLE QUARTERBACK! Plain and simple. I will be the first to say that Freeman has issues. Accuracy issues, quick decision making, and how the hell does a 6’5 quarterback get his passes batted down so damn often. But with all that said he is not a “God awful” quarterback. I think we as a fan base should defend our quarterback when something like that is said. Freeman is a middle of the pack quarterback with potential to be better. That is all. He is average. I can understand not wanting or settling for average but bashing average is a bit too far. Lets let the season play out but until then let’s not leave out quarterback out to dry

  40. ISpec Says:

Inconsistent, I would say would be accurate. “God Awful” is just flat out wrong. If Freeman was really God awful, wouldn’t he have been chucked after one year, two, three? Oh, yeah, I forgot about the 25 TD, 6 INT season. That season made me want to throw up, he was so bad.

So let’s focus on solutions. I think Josh would play better with a slightly more up tempo offense. Not the no huddle, but just moving a little faster. They should be hiking the ball with like 8 seconds on the play clock. I think he would develop a rhythm going a bit faster.

  41. lightningbuc Says:

    Buc87,

I thought you already took your ball and went home crying yesterday when Joe removed your non-relevant link (sorta like your perusing other team’s blogs comments sections). You said you were outta here then and now you’re back already.

  42. Couch Fan Says:

    @Gus

What you said has absolutely nothing to do with what I said. You have every right to defend whoever you want… still doesn’t chance the fact you “Freemanites” are a sensitive bunch. Just read the article and listen to all the crying who dont agree with Tarkenton. They are now leaving the site because they are butt hurt.

Freeman at times has played “God awful” so It is an accurate statement to me. in 4 years he hasent done much of anything for fans to be excited about. So as you have the right to defend him, the rest have a right to criticize him.

  43. stevek Says:

^Hopefully Freeman can “defend” himself by playing lights out, cosistently.

Wah wah wah! enough crying about the media all over Freeman, if he wants to do anything about it, then he should up his game.

Freeman deserves first crack this year, but what has he really done to not be doubted? Exactly…

Can’t wait for the game this week, hope Freeman decisively plays one way or another.

  44. Bobby Says:

The Bucs don’t have the worst fan base, just one of the worst. Sure criticism is warranted. It’s OK to be skeptical but to post negative comment after negative comment with no positives sprinkled in makes you a useless poster and anything BUT a fan. Call yourself a fan if you want but just because a mouse is in a cookie jar doesn’t make him a cookie….

  45. Couch Fan Says:

A useless poster? as opposed to a useful poster? What post is exactly useful since those blogs post are nothing more than a individual fans opinion of there team….

I didnt know a fan was suppose to be a cheer leader.

You know what i think is useless? Fans crying because a majority doesnt agree with there opinion. It’s rather comical… kind of like your post.

  46. Paul Says:

The old man is confused that Glennon’s PS snaps is a competition with Freeman. They don’t have Freeman in there for 2 reasons: 1) Don’t want him injured behind an OL with 2 practiceteam/reserve G. 2) Want to see if we need to keep Orlovsky on the roster or go with 2 QB’s.

Also, if you don’t drink the Kool-aid here, then you are labeled a hater.

  47. TAC Says:

“Why I will no longer blog with you so-called Buc fans anymore.”

    Well, bye.

As to the rest of the fan discussion control of opinion diatribe

    tl,dr

  48. Gus Numbers Says:

What about the games where Freeman doesn’t play “God awful”. TWO GAMES JUST TWO GAMES last year where I would say Freeman played “God awful.” All 32 quarterbacks in the league had bad games. The elite ones only have 1 a year, but they still have them. Freeman is no where near elite so having just two bad games is pretty damn good considering that when he is playin well he is as good as any quarterback in the league.

  49. Bobby Says:

Freeman has played 4 series and the media has him figured out already????
Wow…that’s impressive. That’s probably why they make their wild predictions based on pre-season play every year and are WRONG every year. Just like Joe they realize that you fan the flames it draws commentary then you sit back and go “Wha…me??!! That wan’t my intention at all. I’m just reporting the facts..” I’m not complaining about it. You do what you do to get ratings and if hyping a hot topic is working then you jump on the band wagon.

I’m not convinced Freeman is the answer, he has been inconsistent but I certainly haven’t drawn any conclusion about his play this year based on what I’ve seen in the pre-season. I actually thought he played very well in the Raven’s game. In the last game a dropped pass stopped any chance to continue a drive but I guess when a pass hits the receiver in the hands and it’s dropped it’s still Freeman’s fault. This Saturday will be an indicator of how prepared we are because the starters will go at least a half. I’ll reserve any judgment until then.

  50. Couch Fan Says:

As I said you are entitled to your opinion. Clearly the majority of fans, analysts who watch Freeman seem to think it was more than just 2 games last year. And the year before that…. and the year before that… hell even in his only winning season he played mostly god awful the first half of every game. If it were just 2 games as you say. I am pretty positive he’d be signed to an extension right now.

  51. Bobby Says:

@Couch…funny you got your feelings hurt about that post. You must put yourself in that bunch. I didn’t single you out but you must have felt ‘butt hurt’ by my post. Sorry for the discomfort.

  52. Couch Fan Says:

Lol Im not hurt. I’m replying to your post.

You are the one crying about other posters. LMAO nice try though.

  53. BigSombrero Says:

Buc1987, sorry to see you go…

Anyway, Fran over exaggerated in my opinion. Freeman is occasionally God awful but I would describe him as that. He just hasnt played good enough to be a starter.

As for the shock of people piling on well, how did you not see this coming? You have a lack luster QB that hasn’t played enough snaps in preseason to even know if he can still throw a football. Then you have Glennon who hasn’t failed to impress so far.

Whether or not the Bucs wanted it, they have a QB controversy, it will be interesting to see how Schiano handles it particularly if Free “Free falls” early.

  54. Mean D Says:

I just love these clowns like Buc’n Junkie and Buc1987 who think God has empowered them to determine who are “real” fans and who aren’t. Buc1987 has bragged about buying a couple game tickets and a $100 (cheap) Freeman jersey. Yet he’s a top fan? Why? Because he has all day to blog? Good riddance!

  55. the_buc_realist Says:

hmmmm the season is already unfolding the way I saw it, But I did not expect the JFro-ites to be packing up their tents and hiding!!!! I thought that would happen around week 7 or 8.

  56. Oahubuc Says:

What does critiquing a QB have to do with being a bad fan? I was a Bucs fan for 25 years before Freeman got here and I will still be long after he’s retired as a Chief, Raider, Jet, or Cowboy.

  57. Bobby Says:

    Buc_Realist says:

  60. BigSombrero Says:

Im from North Carolina by way of New York, I guess I can’t be a Bucs fan either. Guess I should forget about the 17 seasons I have been watching.

Look, just because people aren’t pleased with an underachieving QB doesn’t mean they aren’t fans. Joe has posted many more articles calling out how ridiculous the “Glennon Mob is” and how Freeman is our starting QB. Don’ t get your panties in a bunch because he is being balanced about his take.

Don’t know if Free makes it through this season or not but if he has a “Free-fall” his seat is going to be on fire. Deal with it guys. Free has underwhelmed and people are tired of it. If you can’t handle that, shut of your computer and curl up with your J5X plush doll and continue forcing yourself to miss the obvious.

  61. Chef Paul Says:

((Comment removed. Lies about Joe are not permitted. Never have been. Never will be.– Joe))

Nothing against Junkie, I enjoy your posts. But this made me laugh because it appears to me, the comment section is getting so heating Joe has had to start doing damage control the last few days.

Say what you want, good fans. Bad fans. Fake fans. Real fans. The positive I see in these comments is WE are passionate about our team. That is a good thing in my opinion.

  62. Tye Says:

“Josh Freeman has proven to me that he can’t play,” Tarkenton said.
Many agree with you, Fran, I totally agree… I’ve seen enough.

So now their are fans self appointing themselves as Judge and jury of other fans… God help us all… Their are Bucs fans (hopefully the majority of us on here are though often times questionable), Freeman fans (those who seem to put JF above the team and seem to think he can do no wrong) and it would seem the best thing that can resolve this is for the Bucs and Freeman to part ways… Hopefully then, just the Buc’s fans will remain and some harmony will be restored… This is just a thought of course!

  63. Couch Fan Says:

What does critiquing a QB have to do with being a bad fan? I was a Bucs fan for 25 years before Freeman got here and I will still be long after he’s retired as a Chief, Raider, Jet, or Cowboy.

  69. realtalkfaulk Says:

You don’t throw 27TDs if you can’t play. period. All these QB these so called analysts slobber over, Luck, Wilson, RG3, Stafford, Cutler, Eli. Freeman threw more TDs than all of them. These dudes that don’t watch Tampa weekly should shut their respective mouths. Nobody needs you to come around doing your yearly brief observations. Acting like you have some kind of idea of whats going on.

  70. BUCSLEGENDS Says:

Our Bucs get “NO BUCIN’ RESPECT” i tell ya !!!!!!!

  71. stevek Says:

Freeman has the chance to make the playoffs this year, his status as Buc’s starting QB is dependent on playoffs.

  72. Gus Numbers Says:

@couch fan so do you agree that Freeman is a “God awful” quarterback? “God awful” to me means he shouldn’t be a starter for any team in the league

One of the toughest things to do about your favorite team is to have perspective. I work real hard trying not to get worked up and lose my perspective. Often times I fail miserably. The truth is, IMO, Josh is not nearly as bad or as good as a lot of us say. We are just lacking perspective. And why? His inconsistencies. Tarkenton says “god awful.” Totally true….at times. Others might say “elite.” Totally true….. at times. I still think even with those deficiencies he’s good enough to get this team to the playoffs. We’ve got a running game and receivers that can win jump balls and a solid o-line (despite what Friday might suggest.) We’ve also hopefully got an improved defense. He doesn’t need to be elite

Best quotes of the the thread so far, provided me with a nice laugh.

He is good enough if the D can be a bit above average. So far any mistake by Fro-balls late, or even a lead the O gives to them, the D has more often than not, blown the mission. Secondary was the main problem, and was addressed.

Multi-colored lollipops, and little rays of sunshine to all.

And we have a WINNER, right on! I agree 100%.

  79. BucSnob Says:

The Buc realist has to be an Atlanta fan. This is the only thing that makes sense. Freeman is going to have a great season! The best QB in the history of the Bucs will lead us to the playoffs this season. I can’t wait until we start playing regular season games! GO BUCS!!

    —————————————

    1. Watch te first 4 and final 6 games and josh fits right into the no. Of those 3 qbs mentioned in first sentence.

    2. 2010 was a long time ago. Why do people keep bringing it up? The league has figured out josh freeman.

    Chef Paul,

C’mon – a woman who drinks beer and smokes cigars? You got the perfect woman!

  84. PRBucFan Says:

Good Free: Can be as good as they get, Elite
Bad Free: Is indeed “God Awful”, as bad as they get.

    So the statement isn’t inaccurate

  85. Eric Says:

I remember Fran beat us in 1977 9-3 and we were in the game till he hit Chuck Foreman on a pass over the middle.

Want a God Awful stat? 1977 Bucs scored 103 points in a 14 game season. That’s 7.3 points per game!

Now that’s God awful. Free is at least mediocre, and sometimes outstanding.

  86. Chris Says:

    Eric,

Freeman will either show up very good as a top5-10 qb in the league.

Or he’ll either have performances that put him in the mark Sanchez Division.

In 2012 he had more bad (10) than good. (6). In those 6 games where free played well, we went 5-1. Unfortunately 5 of those games were against sub .500 ball clubs and 4 of those had horrendous defenses.

In those 10 games bucs were 2-8. Atlanta had nothing to play for. They beat us the first time when it mattered really. People want to point to the eagles, giants, and red skins game to the defense blowing the game. Well freeman didn’t play well in those games either.

  87. Fran Tarkenton slams ‘God awful’ Josh Freeman - Helmet2Helmet Says:

[…] just plays God awful. And that’s who you are, right?” Tarkenton said, via JoeBucsFan.com. “Josh Freeman has proven to me that he can’t […]

  88. Buccsfan76 Says:

I guess Tark thought he sucked as well after his own first four years. Same passer rating, less yards, less TDs, and more INT’s in 5 less games than Free. What a Putz!

  89. Scott Says:

Hate to admit it…but Fran was balls on right. the BJ Upton reference nailed it.

  90. BUCSLEGENDS Says:

In my opinion some of these “fans” wouldn’t be “fans” if OUR BUCS hadn’t won a superbowl !!!!!!! I’d love to see this comment section back in 1976 and 77 ! Some of you don’t know what is to be a true fan. You should try moving from Riverview to L.A. back in 76 and wearing your bright orange BUCS gear to school at 12 years old… Even more fun were Rams games. I always have and always will love OUR BUCS through thick and thin !!!!!!! STAY STRONG BUCS FANS things could be worse much worse ! GO BUCS !!!!!!!

  91. Stranger Says:

Fran gets a lot of respect, but he’s wrong about some of the things he said. Flacco had loads of question marks against him until he won a Super Bowl, same with Eli Manning. Flacco was even outplayed by Troy Smith. Flacco’s own teammates wanted the Ravens to start Smith instead of Flacco. Even now, after a Super Bowl win, people consider Flacco overrated. He’s considered a byproduct of Boldin’s talent and Ray Lewis’s leadership. This will be the most important year in regards to Flacco’s reputation. If he tanks this year, then he will be considered Trent Dilfer 2.0.

So no Fran, I’m not taking your word here. Say you don’t like his mechanics and his decision making, I’ll buy that. But the situation doesn’t automatically make Freeman bad.
