Mike Williams, Bucs Not At Odds

July 13th, 2013

Yesterday on Twitter, Bucs wide receiver Mike Williams, who is in the process of contract extension negotiations with the Bucs, had a cryptic rant Joe couldn’t make heads or tails of.

In his screed, nowhere were the words “Bucs,” “contract,” “negotiations,” or “Dominik” used. So to Joe, it was not clear what Williams ranted about. This didn’t stop some from trafficking in guesswork adding two and two and coming out with seven, thinking the Bucs and Williams had come to some sort of dicey impasse in the contract talks.

This didn’t seem to sit well with Williams as he took to Twitter again today, and denied there was any ill will with the Bucs.

@Mikebuc19: These guys should stop this reading between the lines stuff if you really want to know….. I’M TALKING ABOUT ME AND MY BABY MOTHER AND HER FAMILY GOING THREW [sic] IT just ask and I will tell you what I’m talking about never once mention those words yall talking about I don’t even know what is going on don’t c how yall do. REMEMBER WHAT “ASSUME” MAKES LOL

For clarity on the issue, Joe texted a trusted Bucs source who told Joe that if there is any friction between the Bucs and Williams’ agent, Hadley Englehard, that it’s news to the Bucs.So those thinking that Williams might hold out or he is hacked off at the team, fear not.

You may resume your previously programmed weekend of alcohol consumption.

It’s a non issue. Even if the Bucs don’t get him signed to an extension he is in store for a monster year and could potentially earn more than his offer this year. Mike would be a fool to let this opportunity slip through his hands this season. He’s guaranteed the starting gig with no immediate competition. He has a chance, opposite of Jackson, to post career numbers two years in a row and raise his stock exponentially throughout the league. Like Freeman, Mike shouldn’t push the envelope. Of course all bets are off if he suffers a career ending injury but we won’t think that way. We want him to succeed.

  2. DomsAdvisor Says:

His tweet sure cleared that one up. 🙂

Hey, did anyone see how McCain is pushing for NFL blackouts to end with publicly funded stadiums?

  3. RCH Says:

    Joe,

Thank you Joe for doing what you do so well and telling it how it is and not getting caught up in the assumption trap like other reporters did. I love your work and thanks for the reliable updates. Great job!

  4. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Hah!!!! I knew it was something like that! Joe, you were ON THE BALL yesterday!

  5. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I love it. While so-called reporters are making guesses, Joe does it right. PFT has egg on their faces right now.

  6. Solaire of Astora Says:

I’m gonna read between the lines anyway. Hmmmnn baby mother instead of baby momma very interesting this means he will be traded to the cardinals by the end of next week

  7. Architek Says:

Thank you Joe as I stated I knew you would so your diligence, but I personally think MWill should keep personal business off of twitter!

Never saw Derrick Brooks or Warrick Dunn or other leaders put their personal business in the media. #besmarterthanthat

  8. Kevin Says:

Wow glad to hear it was b.s. Funny as hell too.

  9. gracelivin Says:

Glad that was cleared up, tired of people always looking for negatives, especially when talking about “their team’. I was noticing on earlier posts how some were saying they needed to be won over before they would believe in a player. If that is the case you are not a fan, a fan routs for the team and everyone on it regardless, if you need to be won over you are bandwagon fans. The definition of fan is a person with an extreme and uncritical enthusiasm or zeal for whatever it is they support, i.e team, religion, cause etc. So you prove it to me posters are not truly fans, just tag alongs till things go good then you jump on. This comes from a fan from day 1, enduring 26 game losing streaks, myriads of bad QBs. Look for the best life is so much calmer that way, support your team and everyone on it.

  10. TJ Says:

Mike Williams is the most immature athlete I have ever followed on Instagram I stopped following him and the cave gang. Very mature to put you and your baby mothers personal busisness on a social network

  11. Joe Says:

    BuccaneerBonzai:

Florio only acted upon a published report. He probably doesn’t even follow Mike Williams.

    Architek:

There really wasn’t any social media when Brooks and Dunn played, surely not Twitter.

  12. Solaire of Astora Says:

Uhh was Derrik Brooks supposed to send out a mass email or schedule a press conference to call out his baby momma. It’s much easier today to act irrational in front off the entire world.

  13. Bobby Says:

No where does it say fans are uncritical of what it is they are fans of. I’m a Christian but I am critical of religion. I’m a Bucs fan but I am critical at times of moves made by the front office or plays called by the O-coordinator but I am always pulling for the Bucs to win. Now I do question some of these so called ‘fans’ who post on here who seem to be critical of every stinkin’ thing the Bucs organization does. Being negative just for the sake of being negative is not the definition of a ‘fan’, it’s the definition of an @!# hole.

  14. Mike J Says:

Twitter & FB & all that “social media” stuff is dumb.

  15. Architek Says:

The point Solaire is that your personal business be it 1999 or 2009 is just that personal business.

I don’t care what times have brought about! Judgement looks poor when you take your baby mother business to the general public.

  16. grif4foozball Says:

How the f%%k did he graduate high school? PLEASE,play football and dont tweet man,or speak for that matter,PLEASE!

  17. Dave Says:

Great to hear as a Bucs fan. Hope Williams personal life gets cleared up and resolved.

    Go BUCS!!!!

  18. Mean D Says:

Florio. The same man that guaranteed the football world that no NFL team would sign Tebow this year.

  19. Buc1987 Says:

Oh so your a Tebow fan Mean D? Wow that figures. Tebow sucks and always will suck.

  20. BOb Says:

Bobby and Architek said it all.

how bout just leaving your personal business off of social media? u know who follows you on these sites and none of them have any business knowing about your baby momma drama.
very immature but thats the way we are these days. we love drama drama drama drama drama. makes me wanna puke. but whos worse? the immature people that post this sort of dribble on twitter……. or the people that “follow” them???

  21. Solaire of Astora Says:

All I was saying is its much easier now-a-days for these young kids who are very emotional to say something stupid. If Derrek Brooks was in the same mind Mike Will was at the time there would be no way for us to know about it because by the time he would be able to tell the world he would have already have simmered down. People say stupid shit when they are emotional.

  22. Solaire of Astora Says:

I’m not advocating him telling us nor do I care I don’t have a Facebook or a twitter. All I’m saying is players before the whole social networking nonsense could not have bitched and moaned about it in public because they didn’t have public at there fingertips. By the time they would be able to tell the media about personal problems there emotions have already lowered

  23. scubog Says:

These new ways to communicate are simply today’s version of writing on the bathroom wall. Here’s a common one. “Those who write on spithouse walls roll their spit in little balls. Those who read these words of wit, eat those little balls of spit.” Gracelivin and Bobby get what being a fan is. Some just seem to look for something negative for enjoyment.

  24. Nic Says:

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe it was Darin Gantt who penned that assumption on PFT, which doesn’t surprise me in the least and its why I took it with a grain of salt. I guess he’s kinda like their version of Yasinskas covering the NFC South. DG rubs me the wrong way because he has a very hard time hiding his blue blood for the stinkin Panthers. For example, he referred to our D-Line in his writeup yesterday as “Panthers castoffs” or something to that effect.

    …Is it September yet?

“I was noticing on earlier posts how some were saying they needed to be won over before they would believe in a player. If that is the case you are not a fan…”

That’s not true at all. Although I tend to be a fan from the start, even I occasionally do things the other way. When Freeman was first picked I wasn’t happy. He won me over before camp even started with his attitude.

I have state repeatedly that Spence has to prove himself before getting props.

Pretty much everyone else on the team but Glennon I believe in. I know…know Josh will excel this year so long as injuries don’t play a major role again.

But just because someone approahes fandom differently than I doesn’t mean they are not fans. Some fans are fair weather fans. Some are band wangon fans. Some are whining fans who think they know better than anyone else. Some listen to the media and buy in instead of using their own eyes.

All of those buy tickets and are fans.

I’m a second generation homer. My father and I watched the first game together (aired in Texas). He never got to see them win the superbowl…I did. My sons did. I freely admit…I was in tears.

All fans differ. Most will rally to the cause.

  27. Scotty Says:

    Just sign him already !

  28. 76buc76 Says:

Is it just me or are the Buc’s just gunna dump Freeman at the end of the year. Even if we make the playoff’s? Sure if he win’s a playoff game it would be hard to let him walk. But if he’s off and on again, then has an off game in the playoff’s. Why would we pay him 10-15M per for 5 season’s of inconsistantly. The guy has been way overpayed up till now.

  29. Couch Fan Says:

    @Bonzai

Thank you for having some common sense. We are all here to argue/debate our opinions and thoughts to other fans but it just silly to question other peoples dandom simply because they dont agree with you.

  31. tonytwocents Says:

I was 99% sure that was contract talk. so kudos to Joe for staying professional, and not going all TMZ/MSNBC with it!

  32. PRBucFan Says:

*Hat tip to BucNation for calling PPC out on his originally wrong assumption lol

  33. Robert Says:

There are no coincidences. He was talking about his contract. You are all naive.

  34. PRBucFan Says:

Lol I usually don’t try and join the Robert bashing but trolling is rather obnoxious and just plain childish so you can chill with that nonsense.

He explained the situation, move on.

And coincidences don’t happen? Lol smh

  35. PRBucFan Says:

How bout you not worry about what a player does on his own time or on his own social networks???

UNLESS he’s breaking any rules or laws he’s entitled to have a life just like anybody here. He is after all a person with a family whom btw he can reference on his social networks anytime he damn well pleases.

Lol the audacity for some to try and demand the actions he should take with his life simply because your a “fan”. Get the flip outta here with that nonsense hahaha.

Again if he’s not breaking the law or any team rules he is totally within his rights. Lol… Smh

Yeah Bonzai we are going to trade the baby to the cardinals for a jar of Fitz’s DNA that we Are going to use to splice with Mike Williams and Vincent Jackson and we are going to have genetically enhanced super wide recievers

  39. PRBucFan Says:
