“He’s Being An A-Hole”

June 28th, 2013

The repeated shots fired by Warren Sapp at Michael Strahan, which are growing more powerful, are wearing on Tampa Bay Times columnist and notorious Joe basher Tom Jones.

Jones, who also co-hosts Sports Page on WDAE-AM 620, is disgusted by Sapp verbally trampling on the career of Strahan as Sapp tries to make a case that Simeon Rice was a better player.

“He’s being an A-Hole,” Jones said of Sapp this week.

“Show some class. You’re going into the Hall of Fame. Everybody’s celebrating your career. Why run people down along the way?” said Jones, who added the everybody knows Sapp is being “small.”

Joe might agree with Jones here, but for Joe there’s an awful lot of gray area, as Sapp is a national analyst on NFL Network. Sapp, like Jones, is paid handsomely for his candid opinions and to keep himself relevant, classy or not. (You can catch Jones’ full discussion of the subject below.)

Not being from Tampa, I don’t know this Tom Jones fella. I didn’t listen to the audio, because if he’s a Joe basher, I have no interest in listening to his dumb statements

  2. Dave Says:

Sorry Joe, but you are wrong in saying there is “gray” area. No there is not. Sapp is an ass, always has been an ass, and always will be an ass.
Have you ever heard ONE of his teammates defend him as a person? I haven’t. As a teammate, yes.

Sapp can make the case for Simeon withouot trashing someone else. That comparison is valid but he, as usual, is doing it with no regard for who he tramples, just like he has always done whenever out and about in Tampa.

  3. passthebuc Says:

    But he’s our A-hole

  4. Buc1987 Says:

Sapp should have made the comparison and moved on. As for Tom Jones I have always despised this guy’s negative view of the Bucs. I mean he’s not even objective he just sttaight trashes them all the time. Most of the time his points are invalid. Like when the Bucs were trying to get Revis, he did a take on how the Bucs would not have to go after so many free agents every year if they knew how to draft in the first place. Never mentioned once in the article that almost EVERY team goes after free agents. Just the Bucs. Ef him and his opinions. I’d take Sapp’s opinions over Tom Jones’ any day!

  5. J 2.0 Says:

Tom Jones is an A-Hole. Cannot stand that guy. Never has anything positive to say. His voice annoys me. Sounds like a little weasle. Definately not meant to be on the radio.

  6. Buc1987 Says:

Add 1 more thingy. I may be a lil bias when it comes to Sapp, because up until now he is my favorite Buc of all time. If Martin continues to run wild he might pass up Sapp on my list.

  7. Vic Says:

Strahan would have been a lot better if he anything close to Sapp playing inside of him. Think about that for a minute

  8. WestCoastBucsFan Says:

Sapp is an asshole? When did this happen?

  9. tampabaybucfan Says:

    Sap is an A-hole….but he’s a good A-hole & he’s our A-hole.

I’d like to hear from Shaun King… a bigger A-hole!

“Shaun King, one of two Buc Quarterbacks that lost a NFC Championship Game when his defense gave up 11 or fewer points.”

  10. BigMacAttack Says:

So Jones is going to call Sapp an A-hole, and then tell him to show some class. Really? A little bit of a double standard there from the Kettle, don’t-cha think?

I love how loud mouth radio hosts criticize NFL players, while having never set foot on a real field.

No class here in the trailer park. This guy is a D-Bag all the way. And get a haircut while you’re at it, chump.

  11. Yeah It's me! Says:

Tom who? I wish someone would pay me for calling someone a A-Hole for saying one player is better than another player. I don’t even see what the big deal is when you read Sapp’s original quote.Man! Bunch of sissy’s out there.Sapp told the truth weather people like it or not.So he doesn’t word it the best way.Big Friggin deal!

  12. Yeah It's me! Says:

Vic Says: Strahan would have been a lot better if he anything close to Sapp playing inside of him. Think about that for a minute.

Simeon was better than Strahan before he even became a Buc.Think about that for a minute.
Just because some of you don’t like Sapp or what he says doesn’t change the fact that Simeon is MUCH better than Strahan. Some peole love to hate weather there right or not.Every damm show is about some type of ranking this time of the year. But Sapp isn’t allowed to say anything that isn’t all lovie dovie.BS!!! He is paid to give his opinion weather you or anybody like’s it or not.

  13. Yeah It's me! Says:

Sapp did make the comparison than moved on.it’s the media that’s keeping it alive.Just because it’s Sapp it’s automatically looked at for being a lot worse than it is.He said Simeon is better than Strahan and presented facts as to why. What’s the big deal? Oh it’s Sapp so he’s an A-Hole. Weak people.Weak!

  14. PRBucFan Says:

Rice in his prime was the better pass rusher, just my opinion.

Honestly could give a rats ass who disagrees.

Don’t know about all this highschool drama but meh…

  15. MadMax Says:

Thats Sapp…Put a jersey on! Hahahaha.

  16. Yeah It's me! Says:

Sapp better not say Payton Manning is better than Tom Brady because he would be such an A-Hole. LMAO!!! Haters hate. They see and hear what they wanna hear.

  17. lightningbuc Says:

Sapp needs to spend more time figuring out ways to make all his child support payments and pay his bankruptcy creditors and less time worrying about whether Michael Strahan should get in the HOF. Strahan is hosting popular daytime talk making big money and Sapp is dropping f’bombs on live TV while thinking his mic is off and playing judge on Youtube TV.

  18. Buc'n Junkie Says:

Sapp needs to chill a little. We wouldn’t want Strahan to lose it and go all Aaron Hernandez on him. lol

  19. MadMax Says:

@lightning, sorry, not “popular” in my home and Im sure in other’s homes too. I dont support liberal networks constantly pushing their liberal agendas.

  20. Yeah It's me! Says:

Disgusting! Buc Fans that will hate on there own HOF Player for saying one player is better than another player who happens to also be a Buc player (Simeon Rice) who is more deserving to get in the HOF than a player on the Giants. You disgust me!!! The true haters are yourselves.

  21. Evo Says:

I can’t believe I’m saying this. But I have to agree with sapp on this one. Rice was better hands down. The facts are the fact. And for people who say rice had sapp next to him so that made rice look better. Maybe you aren’t real buc fans. I remember many games were Rice and sapp would get double teamed on the same play. Center and guard for sapp. And tackle and tight end for rice.

Rice was better against the run than people give him credit for. He played the run when he had too.

And its not like Strahan didn’t have anyone good next to him either. The giants had 4 very good D-lineman most of his career and when tuck came alone and OSI came along. Strahans numbers really climbed.

Fact is Strahan went against weaker talent game in and game out. Rice went against the teams best tackle EVERY GAME HE PLAYED! and was a beast.

Maybe lots of people who claim to be buc fans need to remember how he energized our whole stadium on game days. Making play after play. Even without getting sacks he has to have the most altered throws in the league every year he played. How many times can you remember rice just missing the GB but forcing him into Greg spires or whoever else they had opposite Rice?

Like I said I hate to agree with sapp. I have had personal run ins with him and her just an asshole. Period. But least he speaks his mind.

  22. Dosta Says:

    Sapp is Right!

  23. Joe Says:

    Max:

@lightning, sorry, not “popular” in my home and Im sure in other’s homes too. I dont support liberal networks constantly pushing their liberal agendas.

LOL Not sure who you are thinking of, but Strahan in fact works for both FOX and a syndicated show (that Joe is sure is broadcast on both left- and right-leaning local channels) that is, indeed, one of the more popular syndicated shows out there.

Strahan does not work for MSNBC.

“I don’t support liberal networks constantly pushing their liberal agendas.”

If you are an intelligent man/woman and eager to learn, as you grow older and more mature you’ll come to realize there are good and bad things about both sides of the isle. I spent my life as a republican until I started to open my eyes to the truth.

While the Liberals certainly have a fair share of faults, so do the Conservatives. And so much time and resources are spent on promoting the differences that nothing gets accomplished.

That’s the truth of it. And if you are Christian, as I am, take an honest look at the common party Christians choose. You will discover it is all about themselves and less about God.

  25. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

On topic, I don’t think Tom Jones is saying anything any of us don’t already know. Warren Sapp is a total A-hole. But as passthebuc stated, Warren is our A-hole.

He may be a self-centered, mean as heck jerk and a horrible human being (up for debate), but we love him. And I don’t think a single fan would not want him spending time coaching up our DTs and DEs.

  26. MadMax Says:

Hey Joe, I was talking about that morning program referred to as so popular that he’s on…although Kelly is easy on the eyes, so I do enjoy her while channel surfing, lol.

@Bonzai, I dont want to get into a long political discussion here since this is a Football Web site, (I was just shortly stating my own opinion) but I will agree with you on the 1st part of your statement. I take in both sides…been a conservative independent for most of my mid aged life….more so the last 6 years though as I see things spiraling in an uncontrolled fashion …so much going on….benghazi gate, spy gate, the prez spending hundreds of millions on vacas and celebrity parties while cutting funds for our Vets….I just hope he stays on vacation…(sorry, I tried not to delve deep into this, lol)

  27. grif4foozball Says:

Sapp is the MAN,holds back no punches and dances 4 no one, just tells it like it is,might b an asshole at times but at least he’s not a sugar-coating PUSSY.

  28. Buc1987 Says:

ummmmm what grif4foozball said. nuff said.

  29. BigMacAttack Says:

MadMax, I’d ride shotgun with you.

  30. MadMax Says:

I’d do the same with you BigMac…one thing for sure is the next 3 years is going to be an interesting ride.

  31. Bucgirl76 Says:

Jones didn’t say anything about Sapp as he is off the field that any Bucs fan didn’t already know. But I don’t know who this Jones guy is, and I don’t want to know if he just bashes the Bucs and doesn’t cover them from a balanced perspective. It is also pretty funny that he calls Sapp names and then expects class from Sapp.

Sapp also has a platform for expressing his opinions, and he knows the players he played with and he knows the game. I loved Rice, and he was that player when he came to the Bucs that I thought, “Woah, I’m glad we got that guy!”

I didn’t really pay attention to the Cardinals, so I’ve only seen clips of him with them after he was with the Bucs, but a lot of times he was operating on some other level. And in the Super Bowl season highlights DVD, there’s a lot of times when he’s the one who got the ball loose or made the tackle that made a ball come loose, and his name isn’t mentioned, but the Buc who recovered the ball was. But if you pay attention, you know it was Rice who totally made the play in the first place. And it was like that in other seasons, as well.

Despite who’s better between Rice and Strahan, Rice should always be included in the conversation.
