Darrelle Revis: Wide Receivers Better Beware

April 22nd, 2013

Video of new Bucs cornerback Darrelle Revis shows the former Jets stud seeming very subdued, soft-spoken, almost shy. But that was not the same Revis Joe met when Revis had a sitdown with the local pen and mic club in the Bucs’ media work room this afternoon.

It was as if Joe was watching and listening to antoher man. Revis was engaging, outgoing, funny, and most of all, passionate about winning football games.

“I’m all about winning,” Revis said.

And being physical. Revis noted that the kind of secondary Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik has built this offseason is a stern warning to opposing wide receivers: Cross our paths at your own peril.

“We are going to try to play intimidating,” Revis said. “If you get off my island, [safeties Dashon] Goldson and [Mark] Barron are right there, too, and if you come across the middle, you will get tattooed.”

Now that right there just gets Joe worked up for football in the middle of April.

Joe has a hunch that Dominik isn’t finished adding a cornerback. Something tells Joe the contrast to this season’s secondary and last year’s heinous display of pass defense will be virtually a night-and-day difference.

Im with you Joe, im ready for this season already…Ill be interested to see if a player dom/schiano likes a lot falls to the later part of the first round, if we trade our second and that fourth we got for Benn to move up and get him. Maybe a defensive tackle or corner (since wright is gone after this year).

  4. MadMax Says:

If we dont go for a TE, then I hope we use that 1st pick of ours to attack pass rush. NT preferably, but if someone like Margus Hunt falls to the 2nd, move up early and get him!

  5. BigSombrero Says:

Yep I am pumped too and Revis is right. We are building a team that instead of being affable and “yungry”, they are serious and “take your head off” physical. I love it.

Such a relief that we signed Revis for 6 years!!! finally got some confidence and swag back in our defensive!! Hopefully Eric Wright sees this as a second chance at his career and follows Revis’s work ethic. Everything is looking very good for the Bucs in 2013!

Hopefully fixing the pass d doesnt do to the rush d what fixing the rush d did to the pass d. I hope that makes sense

  15. RustyRhino Says:

@ChefPaul, yes that makes perfect sense to me. Lets hope this is not the case.

Very excited to see this seasons CB performance, along with all of our Defense this season. You Will get tattooed!
Awesome. I need to get that made into a bumper sticker as I drive by the “birds nest” everyday to and from work.
