Bucs Release Quarterback Dan Orlovsky

April 4th, 2013

When Bucs coach Greg Schiano said he wanted competition for quarterback Josh Freeman, it appeared he didn’t mean for that competition to come from journeyman Dan Orlovsky.

So that may be why Orlovsky, who threw a grand total of seven passes as Freeman’s backup last season, is now looking for work, so Twittered plugged-in NFL scribe Adam Caplan.

Orlovsky’s days with the Bucs were forgettable; Joe didn’t remember him throwing a pass until he looked it up.

Orlovsky will be best remembered by running out of the end zone when playing for the Lions, unknowingly, for a safety, in what is known as one of the biggest bonehead plays in NFL history.

    Uhoh, spaghettio.

Ok, who is on our radar?

Draft, FA, Weber ready from the practice squad?

  2. Amarti Says:

    Oh Nooooooooooo!!!

  3. Snook Says:

    Jamarcus Russell anyone?

    Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!

Orlovsky must’ve been to big a threat to poor Joshy’s physique.

  4. bucfanjeff Says:

    “Landry Jones anyone?”

I’m all for that. But I also get the feeling a FA QB is on his way…or a trade for a mid-to-low pick guy.

4everBucsFan Says, not going to happen and there is zero need…in the first. 4th? Sure.

  8. DjoshFreeman Says:

Tebow for sure or Sanchez….haha jk I watch football

  9. FlBoy84 Says:

Evidently DJ Ware is joining him as well.

  10. @MikeInTampa2 Says:

    Vince Young <—————–

  11. FlBoy84 Says:

    Nick Foles?

  12. PRBucFan Says:

Many better QB’s in this draft better than Landry Jones

  13. Vic66 Says:

Now they need to be serious about a new QB. Unless there is real competition, Josh will never take the situation serious.

  14. build thru the draft Says:

this is the most unpredictable mark dominick has ever been so does that mean schiano is driving the bus. another low level back up like dan wont do it for us so theres either someone coming in to seriously compete or were gonna actually use a pick and draft a qb because we can have a undrafted qb coming in just to waste a roster spot…dang josh i hope you wake up and realize you cant live off that 2010 amazing td to int ratio you have….

  15. CC Says:

Well, looks like tbey just added another 3 mill of cap space.

  16. FlBoy84 Says:

Only FA’s out there are Batch, Leftwich, Quinn, Leinart, Thigpen, or Clemens. A trade may bring in Foles, Hoyer, Stanton, etc., or maybe they’re planning on replacing Orlovsky in the draft so cut him now since the off-season program starts in 11 days.

  17. build thru the draft Says:

Nick foles…..not a bad idea flboy84 but dont know if i trust the eagles (kevin Kolb) what would they be trying to get in return for him because it doesnt like they feel he is the answer…he sure shredded us last year and showed poise but we made every qb look like a probowler ever since raheem took over

  18. Capt. Tim Says:

All FA so far , other thanGoldson, right around minimum. Dan the man musta wanted too much money.

Probably will be Vince” grocery bag” young. NFL minimum is still alot more than Bagging at the “Piggly Wiggly” in Tennessee.

  19. jLM Says:

We can sign Jarmarcus Russel. Lol

  20. FlBoy84 Says:

Blount for Foles? No idea what Philly would want, but can’t see the team giving up much for any og the guys listed above since they can easily draft a backup in a few weeks.

  21. build thru the draft Says:

yep start our own trade rumors but why havent the eagles looked to add blount as a bruising back…..if anyone knows how to use blount is his old college coach chip kelly

  22. ben Says:

Vince young has a better record than any FA and Freeman

  23. PRBucFan Says:

    Whoops minus a better lol

  24. 76buc76 Says:

Russell and Young are coming to camp. These guy’s are broke so they should be focused on football.Plus Freeman only has to look beside him to see what can happen.Big arm’s on tall big bodied QB’s is what every team want’s.But if you can’t win consistantly in the NFL.You minus well be Danny Waurfell

  25. Curmudgeon Says:

Anybody seriously suggesting Vince Young is out of their F**KING mind. Seriously. Like just plain dumb… People wanna call Freeman mentally weak and then they want to bring Vince Young to this team?… Those of you suggesting this are the worst kind of ignorant fans.

    M-O-R-O-N.

  26. Capt. Tim Says:

Curmudgeon- we are only signing FAs for NFL minimum( or close to it).
To retire from the grocery bagging career- Vince will fake being normal, and sign that low ball contract in a second!

  27. Oil Derrick Brooks Says:

I’m still laughing at that Orlovsky>Carson Palmer comment from a few days ago.

  28. Andrew 1 Says:

hey Curmudgeon, V-I-N-C-E Y-O-U-N-G!!!!!!!!!!! lol just kidding

  29. Bucs Fan #238 Says:

For pure pre-season entertainment sake, I would love to see Vince Youn and Jamarcus Russle, past 1st round draft picks, in camp. And nobody could play the race card either.

    Would be funny to watch.

  30. Capt. Tim Says:

Lol! That would be hilarious!! Imagine both of them, trying to pretend that they aren’t self centered Assh*•es!!

“No, really! I’ve changed! I actually care about the team now- instead of just my self!”

I’m sure that’s a possibility. We are only signing cheap guys. They qualify

  31. Stevek Says:

Yes to Young! Why the heck not? Minimum contract, and maybe he has matured and wants to improve.

  32. Havingfitz Says:

    Revis Tebow package deal :O

  33. MadMax Says:

Use a 4th or 5th and draft Jordan Rogers. Not as tall as Free, not a big arm like Free, but great at check downs and scrambling (didnt scramble as much in 2012 as 2011)…contributed to one of Vandy’s best offensive seasons ever. Plus its in his DNA (Aaron Rogers lil bro).

  34. Bucs Fan #238 Says:

Wouldn’t that be funny if we got both Revis and Tim Tebow?

  35. Bucs Fan #238 Says:

Tim Tebow… the next Mike Alstott short yardage back.

  36. Capt. Tim Says:

Didn’t Tebow find his way to the AFC Championship game?
That has to be an upgrade! What decade did the Bucs last participate in the NFC championships?

He got a less talented Bronco Team as far as the great Payton Manning! And for a lot less money! Lets sign him! He’d be Cheap, which means there is a chance for the ” bottom Basement Discount Bucs” to sign him.

  37. Blind Melon Says:

    Something is already done.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we found out today who the backup will be.

I also equally wouldn’t be surprised if TT is part of the Revis package.

  38. Oil Derrrick Brooks Says:

From Denver, every team in the league had the opportunity and Jax and NYJ were the only teams with any interest. Even now with teams desperate for QBs, and rehashing guys like Kevin Kolb, and still no one wants a QB who can’t pass effectively. Tebow has great heart, and I think would be a great h-back. But as a QB? No. Please no.

If we are going to get someone to push Freeman, how about we get…..an accurate QB? I know it’s a novel concept.

  39. Stevek Says:

    Preach it Cap’n Tim!

Last time I checked, Tebow won more games, awards, and an NFL playoff game. He would be welcome competition. If Josh sh!ts his pants for a 3-4 game stretch, then we can put in the “winner”.

  40. Oil Derrick Brooks Says:

If he’s such a winner, how come no one wants him? Not even his hometown team. He can’t throw consistently, struggles though his reads, and basically plays sandlot football every play. There is a reason he is in the position that he is in. He makes Freeman look accurate.

  41. Capt. Tim Says:

Oil- I can tell you why. Alot of the suits are all about measures bled. Period. That’s why we continue to so many flops in the drafts. They draft fast/strong/large athletes with no heart/brains/passion. You can’t measure those 3- yet THAT is what makes a football player!

Any doubts- see” heartless/ball less Myron Lewis” great numbers. No guts.

Tebow has won. In pee wee league. In Jr high. In high school. In college. In the pros. He is a born winner. He cannot accept losing.

I’m not a gator fan. I am a fan of the “Rockys” of the world.

The Broncos stunk. Tebow starts- AFC championship. No other changes.
They bring in the best QB in the league, and add talent. He doesn’t go one inch futher than Tebow

Hall of gamer Sunny Jurgenson had a horrible delivery. The ball frequently spun end to end. Into the hands of a Wr in the end zone.

You can’t measure Tebows greatest assets. Unless you look at the win/ loss column

  42. Oil Derrick Brooks Says:

We are just going to have to disagree. GM’s are so desperate to win that they rehash QB’s (Kolb), and coaches over and over again, even after they do poorly where they have been previously.

The reason that they don’t want to touch is that he struggles with offenses, struggles with reads, and is incredibly inaccurate.

Your argument would hold more weight with me if he had never been drafted or saw the field. The entire planet, including said suits, have seen what he could do on the field, and STILL do not want him.

On top of that, he SELLS tickets all on his own, even as a backup. So, you are trying to tell me that GM’s won’t sign a guy, who they have seen on the field winning games, who sells his own tickets, who sells his own jerseys, that they don’t want him because of measurables??

More like, OC’s don’t want him, because who wants to spend 80 hours a week, scheming a gameplan against your opponent, only for it all to go out the window when he starts sandlotting in on most of the plays.

I just don’t buy that argument. Sorry. I don’t want any QB who makes Freeman look accurate.

I would take him all day as an H-back. Guy is strong as an ox.
