Vincent Jackson Will Eat Pineapple

January 15th, 2013

Calvin Johnson won’t play in the Pro Bowl, and Vincent Jackson will take his place.

Jackson made the big bucks and delivered everything Bucs fans could have hoped for this season, minus about 49 inches against the Saints in October. Among starting wide receivers, Jackson led the NFL in yards per catch (19.2) and is extraordinarily deserving of the honor.

Wow, two Bucs in a Pro Bowl. Joe might have to secure some frosty beverages and watch.

    Not bad for fools gold!

Now, lets learn form this and go after some more FA’s. They got plenty of money to spend.

  3. SteveK Says:

    Congrats to V-Jax!

I hope this time next year we are in the playoffs and our players need to send alternates to the pro bowl.

  4. Macabee Says:

Congrats to V-Jax! We’re going to have 3 Bucs in the Pro Bowl if I get my wish because I’m picking the 49ers over the Falcons. Doug Martin replaces Frank Gore. Go Bucs….errr 49ers!

  5. ShayneGoodfellow Says:

Joe you’re going to have to drink a lot of beer during the pro bowl. This game has really become a joke recently, Adrian Peterson said he was going to run hard though, hope he TRUCKS some players that are giving it 60-80 percent.

  6. Rich Says:

dude is for sure a beast.

@NJBucsFan, im a fan from NJ too

where are you from? im from Red Bank. i BARELY see Bucs fans anywhere i go… nice to know there are others around..

  7. patrickbucs Says:

Congrats V-Jack! It was great watching him this year; I was a big fan of his prior to signing here. I really think he was underutilized though, think he should be targeted much more next year. If we get a really big, atheltic TE they won’t be able to double him next year.

  8. bucfanjeff Says:

So if the 49ers beat the Falcons, Doug Martin will be going as well. Very nice.

  9. bucbucbuc Says:

Should have been named a Pro Bowl starter over Julio Jones. Really stretched defenses out and made it much easier on Martin

  10. Ian's Gay Lisp & Ron's Drinking Problem Says:

Ronde gets in too if 49ers win (according to my Pro Bowl Big Board) b/c both of their Safties made pro bowl

  11. Macabee Says:

    Ian,

Pro bowl alternates are elected to specific positions. Donte Whitner is a Strong Safety. Ronde Barber is a 2nd alternate at Free Safety.

  12. thegregwitul Says:

Congrats to V-Jax, who will be joining Gerald McCoy in Hawaii for some pineapple, well deserved. I’m puilling for a Harbaugh vs Harbaugh Super Bowl, so if that happens, Doug Martin will also be enjoying some of that pineapple. So, let’s see, stud rookie, stud free agent signing and high draft pick who played a full season all eating pineapple, very nice. Hopefully the trend continues next season and we add a QB to the list and are talkng about resting players for a deep playoff run. Fingers crossed.

Be safe in Hawaii, gents, no beach volleyball in the sand or pickup basketball PLEASE.

  13. Ian's Gay Lisp & Ron's Drinking Problem Says:

Woops….i though Safties were lumped together (i should know better…i voted 50 times)

  14. CA@eric Says:

Barber should be there as well…congrats to Vjax, Martin you have a phone call

  15. Gusjackson Says:

And if ATL can lose this weekend Dougie will join him. Congrats VJax!

  16. Gusjackson Says:

Lets hope none of our players go to the pro bowl next year! Hoping they will be too busy……

  17. blackmagic00 Says:

Pro bowl means were not good enough for Superbowl but still congratulations. Love our bucs.

  18. the_buc_realist Says:

wow, i did not know that VJ just turned 30 yesterday. This begs the question of long is the windows open for?

  19. Bucsallday Says:

Congrats to Jackson he’s definetely worth the money he received…soon to be 3 pro bowlers when Doug Martin makes it in after 49ers destroy the falcons….

@Rich I’m a Bucs fan in jersey…I live in Perth Amboy…I definetly don’t see Bucs fan around here so it’s good to kno their close….hmu at hmartinez187@gmail.com need more fans on my side rather than seeing all these giants/jets fans

  20. MadMax Says:

Im def thinking Martin will join him….so congrats to both. I dont think the Falcons have enough D for Colin or enough Offense for their D. I usually pull for the Falcons if they make it this far and we’re out, but I dont know this time. I want to see Harbaugh vs. Harbaugh. And Im pulling for the Ravens through it all anyway.

  21. bucrightoff Says:

Please cancel the Pro Bowl. The only time anyone has ever tries was last year’s AFC defense against Cam, and that was because Cam was an arrogant dbag all week and the AFC players wanted to stick it to him. What a waste of time for everyone involved.

  22. bucfanjeff Says:

Maybe the game will be better this year since there was such a stink about last year’s crappy effort. If not, Goodell will definitely shut it down.

  23. Hawaiian Buc Says:

It’s nice that you want the Pro Bowl to be cancelled. However, you don’t have any idea how big of a deal it is for Hawaii. First of all, it’s huge for our economy. Second, the entire week is a lot of fun. I can go to the beach and see Vincent Jackson hanging out with his family. I can go to Ohana Day and watch the team practice. There’s tons of events that take place that’s a lot of fun. Regardless of how hard they play, it’s a lot of fun to see all the best players on one field. I don’t want to see them tear each other’s heads off. The game is not supposed to be serious, it’s a laid back game in a laid back setting. If you don’t like it, good for you. I happen to really enjoy it, as do many people in Hawaii. There’s this thing called a remote control that can actually change the channel so you can watch something else.

  24. Justin Suttrich Says:

What are the chances that Tampa gets 2 of these 3 corners?

    Jonathon Banks

    Dee Milliner

    Xavier Rhodes

Some wheeling and dealing could make it possible which I would love to see happen.

  25. Sneedy16 Says:

    @the_buc_realist

I can see him going for another 2-3 years at a high level. He run great routes and his height and good hands helps. He was never a burner 4.6 coming out of college, but he just improved at route running which helps him get separation. Reggie Wayne is an example of a guy who is a great route runner and great hands and still playing at a high level at age 34.

  26. SeanyMac in SC Says:

    Joe,

VJax get an accolade from his peers and fans, (although this game is meaningless) and you toss in this negative nugget “minus about 49 inches against the Saints in October. ” You know he wanted to score. VJax had a 90 yard play, and then the Bucs can’t get a TD. That’s not on VJax.

    Congrats Vjax. You earned it.

  27. Oahubuc Says:

What Hawaiian Buc said. The game and the surrounding week is a great time. The tailgate party out front makes for an awesome day- flags and tents representing every team, and folks enjoying the perfect weather and NFL atmosphere. The league and players do great events for the community like Play 60 sessions. I look forward to seeing some Bucs around this year. Obviously the players enjoy themselves too, or I don’t reckon they would be here year after year.

  28. FloridaGirl Says:

    Good for VJac!

  29. ShayneGoodfellow Says:

    @Justin.S

Unlikely in my opinion, but I would LOVE if Dominik wheels and deals and is somehow able to draft Banks and Rhodes.

  30. Kryq Says:

I want Banks and Amerson !

  31. BigMacAttack Says:

    Pagan Fest coming to America!!

    Ensiferum!!! Woooo!!!

    I’m so wasted. I’m Superfly!

  32. hamilton Says:

    JACKSON BEST WR SINCE KEYSHAWN.

  33. Macabee Says:

    Shane,

Too early to put final grades on anybody. Still have the Senior Bowl and the Combine. But at this point, if the Bucs wanted both Banks and Rhodes, it is very likely they could get both if Dominik moves to the top of the 2nd round.

Banks, though slightly underweight at 184lbs will probably hold his 1st round grade as the Thorpe winner in 2012. Dane Brugler is the only analyst with a high grade on Rhodes. He’s a high 2nd round pick in most mocks – great size, a heavy hitter, but is not a cover corner, in fact has only played zone at FSU.

Amerson had a strong 2011, but faded in 2012. Most analyst think he might be a better safety than corner. He is a definite 2nd round pick.

Like I said, all of this could change between now and the Combine!

  34. Jonny 3.3 Says:

Jackson belongs to the group of elite 5, with the other four being Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Brandon Marshall and Percy Harvin.

There may be other WRs that may catch more balls, amass more yards than VJAX. But Jackson is one of the few receivers whose impact goes far beyond his stats. The reason our offense became so good is thanks to VJAX.

  35. NJBucsFan Says:

    @Rich

I’m in Cherry Hill….can only hope the Bucs play the Eagles so I could see them. Didn’t even get the NY/TB game cause the Eagles played the time.

  36. Piratic Says:

It’s hard for me to type this, but…I agree with everything that Jonny 3.3 just posted…scary.

  37. bucrightoff Says:

I’ll tell you what, with Eli now a Pro Bowler because of injuries/people not wanting to play, Freeman has got to be getting pretty close. Cancel it because if Freeman becomes a Pro Bowler, I mean what is there to say?

  38. BigMacAttack Says:

So Da Bears hired Trestman and Sulli is staying put I guess.

  39. OAR Says:

It doesn´t matter if the glass is half empty or half full. There is clearly room for more alcohol.

  40. PRBucFan Says:

If Freeman becomes a probowler this season i would LMAO and never pay a single ounce of mind to the ProBowl again.
