Schiano Didn’t Know What To Do

December 23rd, 2012

Once upon a time — actually seven afternoons ago — the leader of the New Schiano Order boldly told media, “I’ve been here before” and “I know what to do” about fixing the Bucs’ losing streak.

Well, Coach Schiano, you didn’t know what to do.

Your team didn’t respond.

Your team lost its fifth consecutive game and third straight at home.

Your team was punched in the face by an average Rams club.

Chucky lost four straight in December 2008 and got fired with years remaining on his contract. Raheem Morris failed completely a year ago and got canned.

Joe’s not saying Schiano is on a hot seat, but the Bucs are no longer responding. They’ve taken a huge step backward since halftime in Denver.

Before today’s dump against St. Louis, Rams coach Jeff Fisher told the Buccaneers Radio Network that snapping a losing streak like the Bucs’ is really about preparation during the week, not about performance on Sunday.

Joe suspects Schiano believed the same thing when he said, “I know what to do.” But the problem is Schiano didn’t deliver.

Now what, Coach?

  1. Patrick Says:

It’s not Schiano, it’s the remnants of the Raheem Morris era that are still on the roster.

  2. Joe Says:

So who gets cut, Patrick? Who are the weeds?

  3. blackmagic00 Says:

Agree with Patrick. And the injurys too.

  4. Sgt Mike Says:

All I know is this is crap football. What a let down this year and next season I will be in Afghanistan and not be able to watch any of the Bucs games. That sucks.

  5. PRBucFan Says:

Definitely not true, this horrible defense gave the ball back to Free what 6…7 times??? He couldn’t get us points.

Joe its pretty obvious who the weeds are

  6. bucfanlostiniowa Says:

He might be in over his head, we’ll know by the middle of next season for sure, but for now doesn’t look all that good

  7. Mr Lucky Says:

The weeds are growing wild on this Tampa Bay team and with Tanard Jackson gone there’s no one left to smoke ’em.

  8. Mr Lucky Says:

    At this point who care?

Did anyone else see how Romo led HIS team back from -14 to tie the game with 15 seconds on the clock?

  9. Eric Says:

Fourth year with the rock and this is what we get?

No playoffs, losing record three out of four years, good shot at last place 3 out of four.

    7, 10, 5 game losing streaks?

Until we get someone who knows how to put together a team, we’re doomed.

  10. Fan Says:

I think this all falls on the shoulders of MARK Dominic, how do you trade your best corner for a 4th rd pick and not bring in someone with some type of skills to replace him knowing that garbage Eric Wright was going to be suspended!!! WTH

  11. nick Says:

was out at a radio show in tampa the other night and spoke with some ex bucs that played on superbowl team, have know n them for years. They out right said Josh Freeman “sucks” he is a nasty person they said meaning he is not fan friendly and also ” the MFER can’t read a fING defense, he just sucks and if we resign he were Fcked” end qoute I happen to agree.

  12. Patrick Says:

Biggers, Lewis, Freeman…….anymore i didn’t mention? Those have been the weak links on the team.

  13. Miguel El Magnifico Says:

Unfortunately, Gosh is a coach killer. The reason he’s in a new scheme every year is because he murders his OC’s.

The Little General is so stubborn that he will never admit he is wrong. Now he’s got that deer in the headlights look as the Chip Kelly tractor trailer comes barreling down the NFL turnpike.

The thread got pretty nasty at the end. If the fans are that upset, I wonder what the Glazers are thinking? They might have to pay another HC for 4 more years of doing nothing. Oh my!

  14. Patrick Says:

@Nick………care to say which ex-Bucs players you spoke to ?

  15. Eric Says:

Additionally, we hired a guy from Rutgers as our head coach.

    Not gonna fly.

  16. FLBoyInDallas Says:

I stand firmly behind the Bucs.

With a steel-toe boot flying up their backside, that is.

  17. ShelbyBucsGurl Says:

Well, they officially packed it in after the Eagles debacle, anyone can see that now….they actually played hard against really good teams like Atlanta and Denver.

  18. Warrenfb12 Says:

“Not how you perform on sunday” wtf? lol

  19. nick Says:

Not Really it was a Dlineman who played for us for 3 years and played in SB

  20. SteveK Says:

    Schenanigans.

Schiano is not the problem, it is the moron throwing the ball. He lacks skills to be successful, mainly the speed (or lack there of) of mind to process the game.

C’mon Joe, you know all about % of blame, you gave Dom the “15%” of the blame because he had no say in the Raheem hire…. What about the “15%” logic to Schiano: Schiano had no say in his GM, or his “franchise” QB?

Get serious people, we don’t have a QB, we have a “Quincy Black” on offense now.

  21. nick Says:

    Then went to Seattle

  22. raphael Says:

lol @ the bandwagon fans….Coach gets more than one season to turn it around.Good grief …

  23. K_bassuka Says:

The NFL caught up with Schiano and that’s all, to some it take them longer than others. Don’t get me wrong I believe that Schiano it’s a great human being, but he is not ready for the NFL

  24. nick Says:

Joe wont call out Dom because he wants his lockerroom and sideline credentials, he doesnt want to lose them, Freeman has to go so does dom and we need a real coaching staff team has been a joke since canning chucky

  25. FLBoyInDallas Says:

    Hey Joe,

You think it’s possible that Schiano knew exactly what to do…but doesn’t have a QB capable of implementing it?

Our defense played well today. Martin ran decent.

The problem? It’s all about #5.

  26. raphael Says:

@ Nick…so which was it a “a buc d-line man” or was it “some ex- bucs” …lol

I met Josh his first day from KC and he is nothing like that…..I call Bullspit

  27. Reality Check Says:

At least we got to listen to Tony Dungy well wishes that our faith in football event will bring us closer to “our lord and savior Jesus Christ” and a commercial about the event every single break in the game. Sorry I don’t attend football games hoping a religious sermon breaks out. What a joke.

  28. Rajah Says:

It’s not the coach for sure. Its that porous QB that we have. Do you all see him today, I mean he was flat out rotten today, just like the trash he is.

He struggled to even make short completions. Wk 16 and STILL miscommunation issues no way, no how. Remedial QB’s have these problems and that what he is. I cringed every time this bum attempted a pass today.

    This is UNACCEPTABLE!

  29. SilenceTheCritics Says:

The Defense did not get punched in the mouth. They gave up a couple plays but they played hard as they have all year long. There isn’t much talent in the back 7 and clearly it needs some help.
This team is getting beat badly more so now than earlier in the season because the offense hasen’t be able to do much of anything. Freeman whether some want to admit it or not is struggleing beyond belief. His play is a major factor as to why our offense isnt performing very well. NOT the only factor but the main one.

  30. nick Says:

yeah ok Raphael Im lying I wasnt at a sportbar with local radio guy and 2 ex bucs who said Freeman sucks and he isnt a nice person, as a matter of fact the radio host off air said Freeman was the biggest”dick” he had ever met

  31. Eric Says:

Is Bruce Allen still an idiot?

  32. canadianbuc Says:

I don’t like schiano and I don’t think he is fit to be an NFL coach we took a risk with him and yes we played well at the beginning of season but that all disappears with this losing streak. I think that that quote “I know what to do” just backs up what I said before of that he is stubborn and a know it all who thinks he’s never wrong

  33. FLBoyInDallas Says:

If the Bucs front office isn’t seriously questioning Freeman as their QB of the future after this season, something is really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, seriously f-cking wrong with that organization.

    Really.

  34. Terrance from Philly Says:

At least Joe is firing Cannons today

  35. Miguel El Magnifico Says:

Gruden loses the last 4 when his beloved DC stabs him in the back and he gets fired. He actually won something with the Bucs, Schiano has never won anything anywhere.

Jon was in the 1st year of his contract also.

Maybe Greg can coach special teams somewhere. He’s got that crazy determined look like a ST coach needs to have.

  36. SteveK Says:

    Derek Shelton = mark dominick

    BJ Upton= josh freeman

You know it Tampa Bay fans. The Bucs have a new Coach who deserves more than 15 games.

What about the GM? 15% blame, NO EFFING WAY!!!! Be Gone Dom!

What about Freeman, it’s ok to suck this bad, “it must be the coach again”?

When is the Coach not the problem, when can it be the GM’s or the QB’s? When Joe? When? Please inform us all?

  37. RichBucsfan Says:

I grew up in Pittsburgh and remember Chuck Noll’s first season. It was awful at 1-13. He cut a lot of players and rebuilt with men who wanted to play. We’ll know how well Schiano does this off season and with the draft and FA signings. It’s pretty obvious some people need to go.

  38. SteveK Says:

    Joe,

How is this not on Dom and Freeman? Why Schiano? You are kidding me right? Our GM has done nothing good, and our QB is terrible. Let’s go man!

  39. FLBoyInDallas Says:

My biggest fear as a Bucs fan is that because Dominik is so tied to the Josh Freeman pick he will stick with him come what may. Just like Rex Ryan did with Mark Sanchez the past two seasons. I sincerely hope Dominik has enough integrity to do what’s best for the franchise rather than what’s best for his job security. Those two things aren’t always the same.

  40. Eric Says:

    There it is!!

    The first Chuck Noll comparison!

Was only a matter of time!

  41. Patrick Says:

@NICK……….the ex- Bucs player you were speaking to was Chartric Darby

  42. greg slother Says:

Freeman’s just plain stupid…the franchise moron not the franchise. But they are right it’s all about #5…which is bad news

  43. rrsrq Says:

How does a team go from having a dominant red zone offense to not being able to score to many times late in the season, beginning with the Saint’s debacle.

  44. Marlow Says:

Ouch… This mess can’t be sorted out in 1 season. Slow the madness. We had early success which has fooled many of you. We peaked early, and we will make the proper evaluations to ensure this does not happen next season. And yes… It will be with Freeman QB. Merry Christmas!

  45. SilenceTheCritics Says:

You all are crazy if you think you we should fire the coach after just 15 games. Has he been perfect? Absolutely not. He has made mistakes but they are rookie mistakes and are correctable. This team took a nose dive when Free did. He hasen’t played very well all season, but especially bad as of late. His stats are by far misleading. No matter what, he will most likely get next year to show he can turn this around but at this point I, and I think most have lost all faith in this guy. Extrodinarily hard worker and great guy but just doesn’t have what it takes to be a QB at this level.

I think we need a new D-coordinator for sure and take a hard look at our O coordinator before we get nuts and fire the coach.

  46. PRBucFan Says:

    To be completely honest guys
-Dom gave us one if the best and brightest drafts we have had here in a long time this year.
-Schiano automatically gets more than 1 season to show us what he’s made of.
    – If we are to weed out anything it’s what had proven consistently to not work.

  47. Miguel El Magnifico Says:

I think the problem with Sanchez is that they extended his contract.

“When Sanchez restructured his contract last year to provide cap relief to the team, the new contract language effectively tied the struggling passer to New York through next season. Sanchez would have to be paid $8.25 million within 30 days of his release, and if released would count about $17 million against the cap for a team already projected to be about $20 million over the cap. There are no offsets in the deal that would reduce that financial commitment or the cap hit, and there is no financial motivation for Sanchez to alter the contract in a way that would facilitate a trade or his release. If he is released he could pocket his Jets money and enhance his bank account via a new contract with another team. Additionally, New York’s cap situation makes it difficult for the team to be positioned to sign any sort of impact quarterback in 2013.”

The Bucs could easily trade Josh.

  48. raphael Says:

    Marlow …exactly …..epic post

  49. raphael Says:

btw … we improved our draft order…

  50. mark2001 Says:

We need to bring in a real QB to compete with Josh…not just a journeyman.

Primarily put the draft in the D Backfield, and a TE as planned and see how the QB situation plays out next year. Resign the winner of next years competition or look for the best FA on the market. Unless a QB is there that you think is too good to be true, the last thing we want to do is turn things over to a marginally talented rookie. It is bad enough to have a marginally average playing Vet as we do now.

  51. tim Says:

    @RRSRQ

Im not sure. Iv said it the past couple weeks. But i truly believe the offensive line is hurting us now. Our rush offense has not been very good the past 4-6 games overall. Just seems like the holes arent there as much. So i think it makes us a bit 1 dimensional. Also havent been a huge fan of the play calling in the red zone. Seems like we only use the sidelines. That fade to the back of the endzone is a tough play to make. Need to use the whole field. Try something in the middle in my opinion. Which is usually wrong haha

  52. PRBucFan Says:

You know what as exciting as this type of offense “can be” it’s clear that it does not play to Free’s strength. If he is ever to succeed we have to get rid of it and install an offense that is tailor made to Josh’s strength. Sure he had a string arm but this offense requires a high level of read an react on the go type play and its just hurting him.

  53. Jim Says:

Coach Schiano didn’t say he could fix it overnight. Let’s not run him out of town. Gotta give the guy more than one season. We’ll see what kind of moves are made this off season and in the draft.

  54. Architek Says:

Keep Schiano and out with the loser Freeman.

  55. SacBucs Says:

He really looks like leperchan on this picture..lmao

  56. bob Says:

josh needs to be pushed much more in pratice, no real backup is lame, and not tebow, also when you are in the third quater a feild goal keeps us in game going for the touchdowns put us out of game too early, schiano needs to learn to coach whole game not chase points. also josh, cant throw short when we need a td

  57. Yusef Says:

Joe is disagree with one point you made..

The team is no longer responding…

The defense played pretty well today opposed to the last 4 weeks…they were out there making some plays…that’s not a sign to me that they aren’t responding..

Josh needs to keep working hard, whether or not hes the answer, i think hes good, but yeah he has regressed quite a bit the last few weeks…he needs to be evaluated and challenged next season, bring in another qb to challenge him…again don’t get me wrong i like the guy…but i do have some concerns with him..but i’m not throwin in the towel..the other guys on offense are playing hard…Jackson still is impressing as well as Williams and Martin…..

    Not responding…..no that’s not it…

  58. nick Says:

    no it wasnt

  59. Yusef Says:

  60. BucSnob Says:

Freeman had another bad game, but I still believe in him. Freeman is our future. A lot of you don’t see it yet but he will lead us to the playoffs next season. #TeamFreeman

  61. Gackrider Says:

Hard to argue that Schiano didn’t know what to do… Freeman and the offense had tons of chances and blew them

  62. Capt. Tim Says:

Ahh, so sad. Again the rats blame the wrong guy for sinking the ship.
    Keep abandoning the ship

It’s what myself, Eric, and others discussed with the Shiano hiring. The team has tuned him out. He has never been a winner! anywhere! To have credibility here- he had to be successful. For a few games, he was.

Now, the NFl has figured out his offense and defense. They are out scheming this team with pathetic ease. Worse- Shiano seems to have no idea how to adjust.you think all of our offensive players suddenly forgot how to play? Really?? The other teams have figured out our system. They know what’s coming. That’s why Martin suddenly can’t gain yardage. It’s why Josh can’t complete a pass. It’s why are receivers are blanketed like a newborn!

And no adjustments are being made. And the players are losing faith.

Schiano was a .500 hundred guy at Rutgers. It’s a million miles from Coaching Rutgers against Cincinnati, to coaching Tampa bay against Atlanta.

    Probably too far

If he was winning- ok. But this team looks just like Raheem’s team at the end of last year!! And Schiano didn’t have a 10-6 year for some credibility.

He players might have put up with his control freak habbits, and extreme disciplinarian ways, if they thought he would make them a winner.

But Schiano has never built a winner. He NFL is outsmarting him, and he players are tuning him out faster than a Liberace marathon!

Now, look at today’s game again. Some of the mysteries make sense now

  63. Capt. Tim Says:

    And Dominick has failed us.

I’m not gonna talk about firing a man at Christmas.

    So I’ll wait til Wednesday

  64. PRBucFan Says:

Capt Tim Schiano’s only mistake will be keeping Freeman cause he will take him down with him.

  65. Freemanbomb5 Says:

I was never on board with hiring a .500 coach out of the Big East. Look how Pete Carrol and Jim Harbaugh led successful teams in USC and Stanford… Chip kelly would coach circles around Schiano and I called it from the get go, problem is that Schiano will blow Marcell Dumbinik and even call him the best GM in the game where as Chip Kelly probably wanted personnel decisions so his career wouldn’t be ruined by the inept Marcell Dumbinik

  66. djjustfrank Says:

And to think that Andy Reid is going to be available after this year…..

Terrible decision on Schiano. And even worse if they keep Freeman. Going to be a pretty bad 2-3 years in Tampa Bay.

  67. buckeyebob Says:

this guy is at best a low level college coach who is in over his head. the big boys in this league have indeed out coached this clown. lets blow up the victory formation stick out our chest and call myself ready for the bigs…what a joke of a coach.

  68. D Jackson Says:

I dont care how new you are as a coach, if you cant win a game in December in the NFL your done. We are about to close the year with 6 straight losses. Raheem had 10 straight losses and he was gone. Raheem stayed in 09 because he won December games. I dont know what NFL you guys watch but the one i watch is all about December and what you do down the stretch. On top of that we actually spent money this year. I guarentee we didnt drop all that cash to go 6 and 4 then loose 6 i a row. Maybe this time if we go the college rout we get somebody who actually won in a legit football confrence. This guy didnt even win in the Big East.
