Bucs Lead NFL In Field Goal Attempts From 40+

December 4th, 2012

Joe’s not a big stats guy, and Joe’s idea of fantasy football only involves Rachel Watson and assorted other cheerleading icons. However, Joe does consume statistical data is always happy to share something interesting.

Today, Joe learned that the Bucs lead the NFL this season in field goal attempts from 40 yards or longer. They’ve attempted 19 and kicker Connor Barth has nailed a stunning 90 percent from 40-49 yards, and a strong 67 percent (6-of-9) from 50+ yards.

So what the hell does this say about the Bucs’ offense and playcalling?

Well, that’s what makes the stat rather interesting. There is no clear answer and opinions can vary widly. The only sure take is that Barth is worth the fat contract the Bucs dropped on him this offseason.

I don’t know quite how I feel about this. Kinda like being in love with a woman that you can’t stand! I love the fact that Barth makes them, but I have mixed emotions about the fact that we are frequently in a position where we have to take them!

For what we pay this offense it will be unacceptable to get field goals next year. We need 7 not 3. I’ll give them a break this year it’s all new and getting put together, but next year no way!!!

It tells us it’s still the same problem we have had for years. 3 in stead of 6 causes us to lose games to many times. Sure it save us some times but more times not. We still need more offense to get it in not stall.

Barth is great and Kai Forbath who we had in Pre season is perfect for the Redskins.
Too bad we couldn’t have gotten something for him
Special teams, with the exception of Barth and Kanon have been a major weakness.
Kick and punt coverage has been as bad as I have seen from a Buc team in decades.
Our return game is near non existent.
Here’s a thought, load up with potential DBs next year and put them all on special teams.

    Joe,

Sorry in advance about changing subjects here, but I am hearing from some very credible sources that this weekends game is pretty much guaranteed to be on TV. Have you heard anything?

  6. Mr Lucky Says:

What this says is simple: Make sure you have Barth on your Fantasy Team!

Barth could be my favorite Buc… after all, his section is called “Barth Vaders.”
