The Bucs Wouldn’t Sell Out A Super Bowl?

November 13th, 2012

Now Joe’s a fan of wiseguy superinsider Mike Florio, the creator, curator and overall guru at ProFootballTalk.com, and a NFL analyst for NBC Sports, but Florio really went overboard with his latest jab at the Bucs and their fans.

In his latest and popular Power Rankings, Florio ranks the Bucs among the upper half of the NFL but can’t resist a shot team attendance.

 14. Buccaneers:  If this team played in a Super Bowl hosted at Raymond James Stadium, the game still may not sell out.

C’mon, Mike. Are we still going there?

First, the Bucs sold out two night games last year, so the premise isn’t even accurate. And Florio knows ticket sales are a leaguewide issue, hardly just a Tampa thing. Team Glazer not gobbling up tickets, like they used to in order to get games televised, is the only reason the Bucs’ attendance shortcomings stand out.

Joe’s had his fill of Tampa Bay bashing for this year.

BS article Florio. Must have been bored…

  2. Buccfaninhawkeyecountry Says:

He put the vikings one spot ahead of the Buccs. Shows how much thought he puts into these Power Rankings.

  3. Nick Says:

Troll…his site is mainly gossip. Its the TMZ of the NFL

  4. Noleriff Says:

    @ JOE

Normally I be pissed too…but considering he had the Colts, Vikings, Seahawks and (No Defense) Ravens ranked ahead of us, it is clearly apparent that Mr. Florio was suffering from a concussion, and should not be allowed to write anything further about Tampa Bay until he has cleared all concussion protocols….just sayin..

  5. Have A Nice Day Says:

Heck, NFL.com is the TMZ of the NFL. They even use TMZ as a “reliable” source for “news”.

  6. Sneedy16 Says:

I read his power ranking. It’s kind of a joke.

  7. Tbuc Says:

The attendance will be a national joke until the Tampa Bay community steps up and supports this team.

If you live here and have the means go to the games or the snide comments will continue. Pretty simple.

  8. Ian's Gay Lisp & Ron's Drinking Problem Says:

I’m more concerned with who would win in a Hair-Pulling….Slap-Fight….Mike Florio or Mike Lupica? ????????

  9. ShutTheBucUp Says:

Seems the entire sports media loves to hate on the Bucs. Whether its Schiano’s method of coaching, “Kneelgate”, attendance, whatever. Let them say what they want and keep thinking that it matters to someone. As long as the Bucs keep playing hard and winning games.

  10. buccanay Says:

Its definitely a cheap shot, I’m AMAZED at the lack of support this area shows it pro sports franchises. There are no excuses anymore, BUT
I think the local sports media deserves a giant share of the blame. I’ve been in this area for about 15 years and have never seen such negative sports coverage in my entire life, which includes time spent in NY, NE(Ct), Denver, Minneapolis, and Dallas. This is by far the worst sports media in the civilized world. They seem to take every chance they can to denigrate the Bucs, and when called out on it, scream “objectivity”. They’re about as far from objective as one could get. They deserve alot of credit or criticism for the lack of a fanbase as anyone, IMO. I’m sure they’re hatin’ every minute of the moderate success the Bucs are experiencing and cant wait to pounce on the most insignificant negative aspect they can find. That’s what’s pathetic!

  11. mikeck Says:

Well, there is an excuse for lack of support…a very high percentage of people living in Tampa arent from there. They come from Chicago, New York, Wisconsin, Ohio, etc, etc. So even for a mid-sized city, there are two few home fans to support a team that isnt performing at a top level. 10 years ago, everyone wanted to go to teh games b/c they were consistemtly winning. There is just little margin for error when 50 of the NFL fans in a city dont root for the home team.

Other cities have teh fan base to support it when things arent going well, here, we dont. Too many immigrated Bears, Packers, Gaints amd minnesota fans who dont want to spend $200 to see Tampa play.

  12. Stanglassman Says:

Good points Mikeck. Here’s my opinion on ticket sales.

1.We division re-alinement hurt our tickets sales. When the Bucs were in black and blue division all the snow birds came down the 2nd half of the season to get out of the cold. It was a optional part of there ticket package to buy a bucs ticket. NFC South teams don’t travel as well as the NFC North did.

    2. Lots of local people got priced out. Tickets prices went up but local wages didn’t. I remember when 25-50% of the fans at the game lived right around the stadium and in the South Tampa area. It’s just not the case anymore. Not as many local businesses buy tickets for right a off and for perks for their employees.

    3. A mix of X-factors like the experience of watching a game at home improved with larger nicer TVS and advancement in technology in coverage. Keep in mind that the NFL does make much more money from television contracts. Fantasy football. So many blackouts that local kids grew up watching other teams that are on tv or where their parents grew up.

  13. southsider Says:

Nobody mentions all the time wasted that kills the flow of the game for these T.V. timeouts. Nothing like standing around doing nothing every five minutes. Id rather be at home with a custom cigar! If it was the old way …I’d rather be at the game!

It’s a cultural change. This isn’t the 1970s where going to a game was far superior to the standard-def, early-model color TV, few instant replay productions.

More and more people prefer the at-home experience than the all-day hassle of going to a game. Joe doesn’t understand why people can’t comprehend this.

  15. Greig Says:

Why even question is Mike Florio is “Still going there” when anyone that has been to his site knows he loves to beat a dead horse more than anyone else in the football media. It gets even worse when he has an agenda like the unions, all the articles we saw on how the replacement refs were a danger to the players after nobody got hurt but on a week where a handful of Bs were all blasted out of games, Ryan Clark, Chris Avril & our own Quincy Black were knocked out of games and yet there is nothing.
The guy is an agenda pushing, smartarse hypocrite.

  16. karl Says:

Florio is a A*#! I stopped going to his sight months ago.Got Tired of his bashing not only the Bucs but pretty much any team.I think he tries to piss people off to get a response. My response has been to avoid any of is opinions.

  17. fridgebob Says:

    Well put, Stanglassman.

  18. mikeck Says:

Sorry for the typos in my above post….stupid sausage fingers…..

What’s the matter with Florio? Is he a damn Yanky ?
