Report: Benn Out For Season, Replacement Signed

November 22nd, 2012

It seems Arrelious Benn will end his third consecutive season injured.

Per a USA Today report from Mike Garafolo late Wednesday, Benn has a knee issue, in addition to a previously announced shoulder injury, that will send him to injured reserve.

The Bucs have signed undrafted rookie David Douglas from the New York Giants’ practice squad, per the report. Douglas’ bio on the Giants’ website makes no mention of him returning kicks or punts in college at the University of Arizona.

What a bummer! I really thought Benn would be a great player for us. I thought last year was going to be his time to shine but it just didn’t happen. It seems he’s going to end up a bust. Sucks.

He seems to be a great guy too. I wish him the best but his time in Tampa may be over after this.

  2. Andrew Says:

I still say don’t give up on this guy as he is very talented, but i don’t expect to be back with us next season which sucks. please give him one more season to prove himself worthy of a roster spot. if he can get his act together he can dominate. plus i dont think he is a diva which is always a good thing.

  3. kh Says:

Douglas returned a punt 36 yards for the Giants in the preseason but it was called back by a penalty.

He returned a few punts at Zona in his sophomore and junior years, 3 for -1 in ’09, 6 for 32 in ’10, but none in his senior year.

  4. DallasBuc Says:

How unproductive can a skill player be on such a bad team, sans bend around?!! He actually can’t find the grass under either coach, good or bad. Shame. Huge talent. Not so huge I suppose. Sucks. Lost way more impactful players and won ball games. F the falcons. Lets go Tampa!!

    Time to move on.

  9. Ian's Gay Lisp & Ron's Drinking Problem Says:

this high draft pick was such a reach….that it wasn’t even funny. He came from a goofy offense in college. Has poor hands…tries to catch with his body….(maybe) cannot learn the plays. He should run track

    Arrelious Bust.

As many times as the Bennd around was attempted, he can’t say he wasn’t given a chance.

  12. tj Says:

I mean what did we expect he is wildly inconsistent he tore it up at Illinois his freshman and sophomore year but his jr year had 25 rec he blamed it on injury . He can’t play the slot and he ain’t going take Jackson or Williams jobs …. goodbye benn

  13. FLBoyInDallas Says:

Douglas has the same skill set Jordan Shipley had before his horrendous knee injury. Lots of upside in this kid. I wouldn’t be surprised if he sticks even after Gator gets activated in a couple weeks, and they end up releasing someone else instead of Douglas when that happens.

  14. Ian_620WDAE Says:

coming out of Illinois, Benn reminded me of Anquan Boldin and towards the end of his rookie year he was really starting to come on but injuries never allowed him to reach his potential.

I hope he gets a decent shot with another team next season but IMHO his days as a Buccaneer are probably over

We finally get to call someone Double D and it’s not even a cheerleader. This is a crime!

    PS –

Trade Benn for John Conner (FB). I want the terminator!

  16. Pete Dutcher Says:

Wait…John Conner was cut from the Jets wasn’t he?

  17. FLBoyInDallas Says:

We already have one of the best FBs in football and his name is Erik Lorig. You won’t see another FB drafted or signed as a free agent for anything more than camp fodder for years to come.
