Redemption For Dekoda Watson

November 11th, 2012

Joe’s ecstatic for Dekoda Watson, who had earned a Sabby for his choke and personal foul on a missed punt block in Dallas earlier this season. That was an absolute killer in that game, and Greg Schiano was not happy about it, calling the play a 10-point swing in the six-point loss.

Today, Watson was a hero, getting a late first-half punt block that led to a scoop and score by Adam Hayward.

Watson made additional plays on special teams today and also made rockstar general manager Mark Dominik look a little wiser. It was Dominik who called Watson a “Pro Bowl-caliber special teams player” in September.

now that Quincy Black is down and out i really want to see this kid get his shot at the starting gig at strongside lb. he might turn out to be an all pro linebacker…who knows…

  2. Teddy Says:

    He “earned a Sabby”?

Joe, you completely busted me up with that comment. Nicely done!

  3. Josh Says:

Was it Watson who ran into the punter last week?

nice redemption for hayward also, after a personal foul trying to block a kick last week. when these coaches say they are going to fix something, they sure fix it

I would have liked to see Watson go in when Black went down as well. Also question Joe, with our pass rush struggling the way it is why do we keep doing stunts with our d linemen. I feel like every time it just leads to our guys getting clogged up and not ending up disrupting. I would like to see us let McCoy, Bennett, and Bowers do what they do best, put their horns back and go at the QB straight up. Too many times on 3rd and I see us twisting up front ending up getting no pressure.

Also what ever happened to Dakoda Watson as a situational pass rusher? Was that only a trick of Raheem Morris or does Schiano see the same qualities in Watson?

“The three (games) under his belt; he’s doing a good job.”

Are you certain he wasn’t talking about “three picks”, Joe?

    Wrong thread.

    @AqibSwagTalib

The stunt is how they got the second sack of the game. They straight rush they were doing wasn’t getting to the QB fast enough, and I don’t think they blitz is the way to go with this secondary.

Dakoda as a pass rusher was an experiment by Morris that this new coaching has abandoned. I sure they are feeling out the strengths of this team and might try Dekoda in the off season as a pass rusher. This off season is where you will see they coaching really set this team up.

Dekoda has came in on a few occassion as a pass rusher mostly in quarter defenses. We need to use him like von miller. I wish bennet would take his speed to the backside where its needed since AC is down. Bowers and Watson can share reps, they both show promise at the LE position. Bennett & Bowers are great stopping the run off the edge.

If i seen Roy miller covering TE’s last game give Watson a chance to shine. He is on his third year and we still don’t know what we have. Im wondering why he hasn’t got his shot?

I want to see David on the weakside Mason in the middle Watson on the strongside. Not Hayward… Dekoda
