“Next Question”

October 21st, 2012

No issues for Vincent Jackson getting across the goal line on this play for the Bucs.

As one can imagine, nerves were raw in the Bucs locker room. Not many Bucs were willing to talk. Understandable. It was their worst game of the year, yet, despite all the powderburns on their feet, the Bucs thought they had tied the game up in the final seconds, only to be denied by the zebras (replacement refs, anyone?).

Vincent Jackson was among them. He may be the answer to a trivia question for decades to come, and not in a good way, “Who caught a 95-yard pass in the NFL without scoring?”

Jackson was a stand-up guy in the locker room, offering to field questions. That doesn’t mean he was in a great mood.

When someone — Joe isn’t sure who — asked Jackson point-blank if he “ran out of gas” on the 95-yard catch, Jackson quickly took a page out of the playbook of oily Drew Rosenhaus and said, “Next question,” while facing straight ahead, staring into the klieglights of TV crews.

Jackson had limited participation in practice late last week with a calf issue. When asked if that played a factor in getting caught from behind, and denied a dire needed seven points, Jackson said he “did the best I could.”

I am sure no one wanted a touchdown more than Jackson. Throwing it to him after that play would have been 6.

  2. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I will never criticize a player who ran for 95 yards and gets caught from behind, especially when they have over 200 yards receiving in a game. Tease him, yes. Criticizing him is stupid.

  3. Andrew Says:

Joe you gotta let this one go. Im sure he feels bad about it.

  4. FLBoyInDallas Says:

Lay off Jackson. He and Freeman were the brightest points on this Bucs team today, bar none. Joe usually gets things right but this focus on VJax today is way off base. When an offense gets four plays from the one-yard line and can’t do anything with it THAT’S the story…NOT THE GUY WHO MADE A 95-YARD PLAY.

You wanna get mad at someone? Get mad at the OL run blocking in the red zone. Get mad at Sheridan’s three-man DL fronts on crucial third-down plays. Get mad at our DBs looking like the keystone cops out there against Brees on most plays. Get mad at the continued stubborn tendency to run up the middle at the wrong time or too many times in a row. And most importantly of all GET MAD AT THOSE F-CKING REFS FOR STEALING POINTS AND/OR MOMENTUM FROM THE BUCS!

As for VJax we wouldn’t even be in this game if it weren’t for him (and Freeman). Get it straight.

Throwing it to him after that play would have been 6.

    Damn straight!

  6. JJ1977 Says:

The 4 games TB have lost is only by 7 points or less! They r jelling just wait, this is a first year system for everybody on this team! They look a lot better then last year..

  7. DCBUCSFAN Says:

That ref Mike Carey has a history for sucking the life out of the Bucs! (Redskins playoff game – the catch)

  8. Andrew Says:

    damn. Great post flyboy.

  9. Snook Says:

2 posts on Jackson not scoring on the 95 yard pass.

Nothing on the 3 plays in a row to Blount? Or why he’s so ineffective at the goal line?

  10. Josh Says:

Leave him alone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He broke the record for the best yardage by WR. I love the Bucs. They fought valiantly. The pass coverage needs help as does the whole team. Leave the man alone. Ask the defense what the were thinking in the first half, but not the injured WR who broke a franchise record. Disgusting question !!!!!!!!!!

  11. AtlBucsFan Says:

Jackson doesn’t play defense. It was the defense and the coaching calls that lost this game!

  12. AK Says:

So Jackson gets caught at the 2…so be it. It shouldn’t be a death knell for the offense to where they can’t get in the damn endzone with 1st and goal at the 2!!! I don’t know what the all time Bucs record is for receiving yards in a single season but it seems like Jackson is on his way to breaking it.

  13. Sam Says:

Joe…I know your ticked…..but your anger is misplaced. Be angry at the o line…..or Whomever decided to put Blount i. He obviously wasn’t into it today.

  14. BucFan20 Says:

    @ Sam
The other team gets paid too. The line moved nobody. No holes. Freeman called the 4th down bootleg. And as was said. Should have thrown it to VJ. That would have worked . Really? Never knew there was a sure thing. After all. Looked like a sure TD when VJ was running. After all. Barth is a sure score.
So VJ did not score. BIG DEAL. Look under the heading Bucs Blow 21 to 7 Lead.

  15. Sam Says:

    @bucfan20
I agree. It’s not on Jackson. I’m telling joe to lay off him. As an o lineman those 3 plays were disgusting but I’m much happier with the offense and freeman outperformed drew brees, stat-wise. Never thought I would utter those words
