Mark Barron And Lavonte David For Rookie Award

October 19th, 2012

Could it be possible for two rookies on the same team to share the same rookie award in the NFL?

If so, let’s just say that Charley Casserly would be upset. The former Redskins and Texans general manager and current NFL Network insider Casserly raved about the pair of Bucs defensive rookies and was insistent they should be up for some hardware after the seaso, while speaking with Tom Jones and Rick Stroud, co-hosts of “The Sports Page,” earlier this week on WDAE-AM 620.

“The two rookies, Mark Barron and Lavonte David, both of them have to get consideration for Defensive Rookie of the Year,” said Casserly, while discussing the Bucs defense.

And while the Bucs will face a stiff test facing Drew Brees and the offensive explosive Saints Sunday, Casserly didn’t think the Bucs will get lit up.

“With any quarterback, you will have to get some pressure on him,” Casserly said of battling Brees. “You have to get outside pressure to keep him inside and get a push inside. Gerald McCoy, who has had an excellent season, I think is a real key to get inside pressure on [Brees]. It’s a tough match-up, but not one [the Bucs] won’t be competitive in on defense.”

While limiting Brees is essential, Joe really believes it is on the shoulders of the Bucs offense to win this game. It’s going to be a shootout and to keep up with the Saints, the Bucs must put points on the board.

With Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams, the Bucs proved they can do this last week. And the Chiefs might be better defensively than the Saints.

If Barron and David are both in the mix for DROY at seasons end neither will win it.
Being on the same squad they will just take votes away from each other and someone else that might actually be worse than both of them could very well walk away with it.
Oh and since neither leads rookies in sacks they won’t be getting the award.
OROY = rookie QB that gets the most hype
DROY = rookie with the most sacks

    Great drafting this past year.

Letting the Cowboys take Mo Claibourne was the best move we could have made.

Barron, Martin, David are 3 studs.

Claibourne is a prima donna, and we dodged a huge bullet.

    Go Bucs.

  3. Have A Nice Day Says:

The Saints have one of the worst pass rushes in the league along with one of the worst pass coverage. The run defense is not much better. Just a horrible defense in all. Definitely bottom 3 in the league.

We should walk all over their defense, but you never know with division games.

PFF has the Bucs graded as the 13th highest offense overall and the 9th highest defense overall.

I should add that in spite of this, they have the Bucs ranked 24th in their most recent power rankings.

Barron and David are beast…can’t wait to see them put a hit on Jimmy Graham……BTW..wonder if Dq. Bowers will be activated this week ? what do you think Joe ?

  5. espo Says:

Why is everyone talking about a blowout Sunday? I’m expecting a blowout. We’ll be all over the Saints, dominating both sides of the ball.

  6. espo Says:

Sorry, I meant why is everyone expecting a shoot out? I’m expecting a blow out.

    Hope not.

  8. raphael Says:

@ joe, yeah i know what you mean…I am on the fence with it ,honestly

  9. espo Says:

I am not on the fence. I am 100% opposed. Especially this week. He just returned to practice. I doubt going against 300LB tackles is a good idea right now.

  10. Oahubuc Says:

Absolutely zero reason to activate DaQuan this week. Cost/Reward doesn’t add up. Our guys on the edge are doing a pretty nice job. Bennett, McCoy, Miller and the Kanaka Warrior will get after it.

  11. Ladyz Says:

Agree completely Oahubuc. From a nurse’s vuepoint now is not the time for him to get into a rough and tumble mix.

  12. Miguel El Magnifico Says:

Did Bowers run the Gauntlets yet?

  13. raphael Says:

I think the Bucs will activate Bowers, and use him on 3rd and long…they waived a DE on Thurs… so a roster spot is open…hmmm?
