Freeman Speaks Of Hungry Benn

October 19th, 2012

The forgotten man of the Bucs’ receiving corps, Arrelious Benn, seems to be spiraling to depths unwanted for a high second-round draft pick in 2010, arguably the deepest draft of the modern era.

Benn has four catches for 26 yards this season and his kick return days may by numbered. Tiquan Underwood clearly has leap-frogged him on the depth chart. Even the Benn’d around wasn’t called against the Chiefs.

But hold on, says Josh Freeman. Benn is a beast lurking under the broiling sun of the practice field.

“A guy that honestly I think is going to come on huge for us, Arrelious Benn, you know, they’ve been mixing him in a little bit, but I’d look for a, down the road, big things from that kid. He’s tearing it up. He’s hungry,” Freeman said last night on WDAE-AM 620.

Freeman was unprompted when talking about Benn, but Joe’s not seeing how Benn is going to get much action barring an injury in the receiving corps.

When you add up the Bucs’ many offensive weapons, Benn just doesn’t rank that high.

    This is a shame too, especially with an emphasis on downfield passing. Benn’s strength and few highlights that come to mind are deep bombs against Arizona and Washington from the last couple years.

    I can’t help but think that injury during training camp and the first couple weeks of the season really held Benn back from making an impression on the new coaching staff, and getting the necessary reps in the new offense. Without that time, he’s been left behind.

    Benn is a bust he was inconsistent in college i remember his sophomore year he tore it up next year his team won 3 games he blamed it on injures sound familiar .He on Twitter talking bout things take time its been 3 years .He is a bust

    Maybe Josh is cluing us in on the gameplan this week. More 4-5 wide receiver sets perhaps? I’m waiting for this offense to start exploding on people. We have a plethora of weapons.

    benn had a slow start in the previous offensive system also, tiquan underwood is a nice story and has come up big for us, but i think eventually he will be behind benn on the depth chart, or they will be swapping out based on the package. underwood may end up being a karl “the truth” williams type of player on this team, marginal but pretty clutch and well-liked by the fans.

    wow, looking back suxxxxxxx!!! 2010 draft we took Benn before Jimmy Graham, Rob Gronkowski, Arron Henandez, you may wonder why i chose these 3 TE over other players well ill tell ya. Winslow had a bad knee but Rah loved him so we missed out on 1 of 3 great TE because of the love affair between KW2 and Rah. man now i wish i wouldnt had looked at that excuse me while i go puke now. BUC IT IM OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!

    @TJ

    not a big Benn fan but do you remember what that offense and QB was like in college? Not good.

    Benn had a big bomb td reception last year at home against the Bucs if I do recall. He’s shown some flashes but overall he’s been dissapointing for sure.
