Julian Vandervelde On His Way To Tampa Bay

September 1st, 2012

Last night Philadelphia Eagles guard Julian Vandervelde was a victim of roster cuts.

Today, he is heading to Tampa Bay to be a member of the Bucs, so he Twittered just a little while ago (unearthed by Rick Brown of the Lakeland Ledger).

@BirdNerdJV73: Philly, I love ya, but today this Eagle flies south to join Tampa Bay. Thanks for a great time.

Well, that takes a little bit off of Joe’s mind that an experienced (former college teammate of Adrian Clayborn) big ugly will try to plug the hole left by Davin Joseph’s injury.

I was looking at the Iggles cuts last night and thought Vandervelde would be an upgrade over Meredith. I guess even a broken clock is correct twice a day!

  2. SilenceTheCritics Says:

Not familiar with this guy but welcome to Tampa! I hope you can knock some guys on there asses for Josh.

  3. NJBucsFan Says:

Rotoworld has him as a C/G. Is it possible he’s going to be a “hidden center”?

  4. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

You rock Joe! I bet Tampa asked Clayborne how good this guy is.

  5. bucfever40 Says:

Hope you enjoy Tampa, but don’t EVEN ask for no. 63!

  6. patrickbucs Says:

really hope this guy is good, we need it badly. I’m not sure if they could have this guy start week 1 as a center. That’s not much time to work with Josh on snaps, calls, etc.

  7. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

Maybe he will sing the National Anthem for us!

  8. Robbie G Says:

Since I live in the Philly area, this guy fell out of favor with Reid. He has his “boys” and he did not fit in with the click. With the losses the Pigeons (oops) Eagles have on the O Line, this will bite them in the butt, good addition to the Bucs.

Great work Joe! Things happen so FAST these days…..

  12. MAC Says:

Hey BIG BOY! Welcome to Tampa…. I have read some nice things about you and I have high hopes that you will fullfill your destiny in Tampa as the replacement for Davin Joseph and a starter for the next ten years… Please stay injury free and put on 20 pounds of muscle…. Talk to Zuttah about the gaining muscle part (he will know who to talk too… wink…wink…)

  13. FlBoy84 Says:

Nice pickup. Was just reading scouting reports on him this morning. Curious who the DL addition might be. Dwan Edwards maybe?

  14. FlBoy84 Says:

Rick Stroud said the new players at practice were “a receiver wearing No. 15 and offensive lineman in jersey No. 61”. He also mentioned Vandervelde was on his way to Tampa. and that the team signed TE Drake Dunsmore and Saints C Brian Folkerts to the practice squad.

Any Hawkeye lineman is welcome here. Good stock despite being waiver fodder.

just watchd some videos of brian tyms the wide out he looks like a physical specimen he also came out in a mansion party at aldon smith quoting he is like chad johnson and hes got alot to say lol..

  17. REDDMAN Says:

Hope he’s a solid backup. Iowa puts out good OL. Would have liked someone a little bigger. 6-2″ 300 is a Ted Larsen clone.

  18. Crotch McGee Says:

Played in 1 NFL gm so far. Let’s not crown him just yet. Plus his old man choked away British Open in ’99, allegedly.

  19. Rob Says:

Julian is a great guy… very intelligent… excellent character..awesome pickup for the Bucs.

  20. Bobby Says:

I wonder if they plan on moving him to center and moving Zuttah out to guard? Probably keep Zuttah at Center initially. They may keep Julian at guard…have to wait and see. I’m sure they’re not done making moves.

  21. SilenceTheCritics Says:

    @ Crotch

What exactly does his old man have to do with anything he is going to do here? Ignorant comment. And nobody has crowned him anything… is it bad to hope a guy can do well for us?

  22. Miguel Grande Says:

Hope he packs his track shoes and liniment.

  23. UK_Buc Says:

    @ silence

Chill out son, he was just making a tongue in cheek comment about his (nearly) namesake Jean, and his famous meltdown

  24. Garv Says:

“Hope you enjoy Tampa, but don’t EVEN ask for no. 63!”

Thanks and a hat tip for a good laugh!

  25. The Dutcher Journal (Pete Dutcher) Says:

The only way I see him playing center is to experiment in the case that Zuttah struggles there, so lets hope the need does not arise.

    Welcome to Tampa!
