Another Fast Start

September 9th, 2012

That’s five in a row now if you count the preseason. The Bucs came out and played good football and jumped out to a lead.

Whaddya know, a play in the backfield by Mason Foster to get the defense out of the game followed by forcing a Carolina punt and a 13-play Bucs scoring drive with no penalties.

It wasn’t a coincidence that Raheem Morris could accomplish no such feat. And it’s not luck that the New Schiano Order has its team firing out of the opening whistle. That doesn’t mean the Bucs will win a pile of games, but it’s a damn good start.

Those “dreaded drills” really paid off.

The next 3 games will be refinement games. The team will face hard challenges and working through them will better prepare them for the rest of the season.

  2. The Dutcher Journal (Pete Dutcher) Says:

The bad news…the next 2 games are away games and if we lose either one the following home game won’t sell out.

  3. lurker Says:

the “housecleaning” really paid off too!

FUNDAMENTALS! It’s clear and easy to see why the D played so well. Players understood the scheme/game-plan and their role in it. That was NEVER the case under Rah. Look at the striking difference in the play of the LBs and DL. It’s a wonder we had to put up with Rah as coordinator (much less HC). The guy’s D was lacking fundamentals. Honestly, given the circumstances and where we were, you could arguably rank this as one of the best/most dominating defensive performances over the past decade…certainly since Carolina gutted us that puke-filled night on national TV or aka the “Monty Bailed” game.

There’s work to be done, for sure…but it feels good to look/play like a professional football team.

Jason laconfora tweeted that Blount is not injured he just wasn’t put back in the game.

I love a good win…. shuts up the whiners for a while. Solid performance, with room to improve. Every level on D looked improved… Line, backers, and DBs, impressive. Still not much room to run, no lanes to “run a truck through”, but plenty of “3 yards and a cloud of dust” type blocking and running. Pretty much every addition to the team contributed (VJax, Clark, Ware, Wright, Nicks, and rookies David, Barron and Martin). This team played a full game and it was good to watch. All those dogging on Dom for his drafts and acquisitions: GMC and Clayborn played great, Bennett and Miller were very good. Mike Williams scored, Blount wasn’t bad before the injury. Foster, and even Lorig, were productive. That’s not even mentioning this year’s “Schiano” acquisitions. Nice Job Bucs!!! Keep it rolling!

  7. BamBamBuc Says:

Stat of the day: Bucs hold the ball almost 15 MINUTES more than the Panthers. 37:27 to 22:33. I guess keeping the opposing offense off the field DOES make it harder for them to score…

  8. Mike J Says:

To me, Josh’s play was eerily similar to the 3rd ex. game, when he looked like an All Pro when ”grooved” on the initial drive, but was very, er, average after that. He wasn’t helped by Larsen’s hold or Jackson’s drop 2nd half, but I did not find Freeman’s play overall very encouraging. Two picks & a blocked punt, & all you get out of it is a FG??
Thank the Lord for the defense in this one.

  9. Mike J Says:

canadianbuc, it looked like a cramp to me at the time.

  10. rrsrq Says:

Lorig made Keuchly irrelevant…not complaining but if Blount was healthy would have love to see him close the game out, where martin was getting 3 yards, Blount has historically gotten 5+ in closing role. What happened to M. Williams after the TD catch?

  11. ClayBURN94 Says:

Hey Miguel and Eric, F*** YOU AND GO BUCS!!!

  12. Ian_620WDAE Says:

Blount not getting touches in the 2nd half just shows how much confidence Schiano had in Martin. He’s our bell cow, just dont run him into the ground like Chucky did with Caddy

  13. Patrick Says:

Martin was great today. Freeman made some nice passes, but he couldn’t push us down the field into the end zone on several opportunities. Should’ve scored at least two more touchdowns.

Gotta get better but I’m pleased with the victory 🙂

  14. bucfanjeff Says:

Panthers were playing 2 deep most of the game taking away VJax as well sliding the safety over. Freeman was taking what was there, going through progressions and was sharp. Some drops, and general growing pains, but played well. Great win. Now enough with all the Cam #!^* sucking. I told you he was coming back down to earth this year. Their big plays were mostly off our defensive errors.

Loving the win…build confidence in the coach and team.

  15. blackmagic00 Says:

Where in the H@#$ is Thomas 2.2?

  16. ClayBURN94 Says:

This for THOMASS 2.2 RICK STROUD:@NFLSTROUD: Bucs DT Gerald McCoy was disruptive all day. Finsihed with a sack, 2 tackles for loss, 2 QB hits, forced a minus 6-yard completion. #haters

  17. Miguel Grande Says:

    GMC had a career day

  18. Dano Says:

GMC was awsome today! Old man Ronde: 1 sack 1 int?? Love that guy!

  19. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Seriously Joe, you need to un-ban Thomas and put up about 50 GMC articles.

  20. Joe Says:

    Hawaiian:

Joe misses Thomas 2.2 as well but he crossed a line where there is no reprieve.

Joe is thinking about letting him out of jail after the season but Joe’s not leaning that way.

  21. BamBamBuc Says:

LOL, Hawaiian… but NO, I’d rather deal with Eric and Miguel than have Thomas back

  22. Mike J Says:

Dano, so how many of each is that for Ronde in his career?? I was thinking about that earlier.

  23. Tom Says:

That was great to see. A frigging TD on the first possession. I assume it was the first, I didn’t get to the show until a few minutes late. And the D didn’t give up a td or a fg on their first attempt. Man it was great to see that. The coaching really seems to be an incredible improvement.

  24. Mike J Says:

ClayBURN94 , I saw Gerald getting double-teamed a few times too. Very strong day for him.

  25. Drew Says:

    @Joe,

    I agree with Hawaiian.

  26. Ian_620WDAE Says:

    what did Thomas 2.2 do?

  27. Hawaiian Buc Says:

He was banned for being a jack arse. On second thought, even if you un-banned him, he would avoid this site like the plague after a big GMC game like today. Even he would have a hard time finding excuses.

  28. BucsFan007 Says:

High Praise to the Wind Sprints !

  29. BRoy3434 Says:

i will admit ive only been on this site since the schiano hire, due to lack of noticing it, but in the time i have i enjoy reading comments from everyone…..besides 2.2 and miguel, seriously who has the time to bash their own team on a website promoting it….and mccoy was truly everywhere, was an inch away from 2 sacks….overall good win and it really shows that when a coach asks for hard work and the team delivers…wins will be the result
