Budget Cuts Explain No Report On Talib Wreck

March 19th, 2012

Fairly or unfairly, it seems it’s gotten to the point that troubled Bucs cornerback Aqib Talib makes more headlines off the field than on the field.

And those headlines are not exactly the type to boast about on your LinkedIn profile.

Recently, Talib was in the news for what sure smells to Joe like a shakedown, where a woman is claiming Talib threatened to “cap” her after a fender bender in which Talib allegedly rear-ended the alleged victim.

But there is no police report of the accident. Why? Budget cuts, so say the Tampa police, by way of Ray Reyes of the Tampa Tribune.

Before 2008, police would have investigated the crash and submitted a report. The department’s policy required officers to investigate every crash, no matter how minor, and write a report.

The policy was changed that year to be more in line with state regulations, a change that saved thousands of man-hours a year, said police spokeswoman Laura McElroy.

Under the revised policy, a police officer will write a ticket or a report if someone died or was hurt in the crash. Officers also will issue citations if a motorist shows signs of driving under the influence or if the incident is a hit-and-run.

Talib’s wreck involved no deaths, no injuries, no DUI and no hit-and-run, according to police.

This lawsuit screams “moneygrab,” if for no other reason than the alleged victim didn’t file a mysterious $15,000 lawsuit until more than a year later — after she learned Talib plays for the Bucs.

OOOOOKKKKKKKKK…….so you had to pull the scab off of that wound huh Joe?? And let the arguing begin……..

    Bobby:

It’s news. Joe’s about news, not about touchy-feely tripe.

  3. Pewter_Power Says:

So Joe, if we draft Morris Claiborne and Donde Barber comes back, what do you think the chances are that Aqib Talib comes back?

  4. Pewter_Power Says:

    *Ronde

  5. eric Says:

The point is had the lady told the cop about the “threat” there most definately would have been a police report. And perhaps an arrest.

Budget cuts or no budget cuts.

  6. Pete Dutcher Says:

Sounds to me like the cops screwed up, and they are pointing the finger at the state in order to “money grab” themselves.

What those comments do not say is that tickets do not have to be written…but REPORTS DO.

2012 is Talib’s contract runs out this season. If Goodell suspends Talib (very possible), the Bucs cannot cut him.

Joe is going to take a guess and suggest Talib will not be on the Bucs roster after this season.

  8. Pete Dutcher Says:

They will cut him after the draft…before a suspension is handed down. Mark my words.

  9. Phenom4498 Says:

Ya just gotta look at the positive in all of this…….atleast Talib wasnt driving drunk….gotta give him credit there for sho!!!!

  10. RustyRhino Says:

What a sad time to live in america, where budget cuts can cause people to have these type issues overlooked or have accusations to be left on ones record because it costs to much to process an expungment. What BS!

Where is the blind lady liberty justice scales here? Is it that we are at the mercy of those who have enough cash to pay to get justice? It is very scary to be poor in our country.

  11. thomas 2.2 Says:

    Sure guys.

a Disclosed 9-1-1 tape reveals that the grandmother tells the dispatcher that a man who just rear-ended me is outside screaming at me through the window – who later turns out to be serial offender Aqib Talib – is a “shakedown” against Talib.

How many false reports or “shakedowns have there been against Ronde Barber, or John Lynch, or Derrick Brooks, or Warrick Dunn or Davin Joseph?

Zero. Why? Because she isn’t making it up.
Grandmother alleged: rear-end accident – confirmed. 9-1-1 call – confirmed. Talib screaming at her – confirmed.

It is normal, not abnormal to intiate suit one year after the accident. The statute of limitations is 4 years for most auto-accidents. This gives you time to document the case before filing suit. Typically, accident-related treatment continues for months so the medical documentation isn’t complete for many months. Further, it frequently takes 6 months or more for a physician to determine if the patient will have any degree of permanent injury or impairment from the accident – or if the patient will fully heal without continuing problems.

Almost certainly, Talib has auto insurance which will cover him for injuries caused by rear-ending a faultless motorist – which means that Talib has little or no exposure at all and she isn’t shaking down Talib.

Please respect and consider not only the interests of the players on teams that you adore, but ordinary citizens who have done nothing wrong but lawfully preserve her rights. Talib has earned the presumption that he is an idiot, not this grandmother.

  12. Pete Dutcher Says:

Frankly, the woman could sue the police and get more money out of it ($100,000). Plus, it would force the state to raise the budget.

But this is not about the public good, is it? 😉

  13. eric Says:

Screaming at someone in a car is perhaps rude, but not actionable.

    Threatening to shoot someone is.

No report she made that allegation at the time, so the credibility is wanning.

That allegation only came to light when she decided to come up with the “threat” about putting a cap in her, likely from reading the public reports of Talib’s troubles in Texas and conveniently manufactured for $$$$$$$$$$$.

  14. jvato24 Says:

Mike Tolbert to the Panthers .. Good luck Bucs D

  15. Bobby Says:

Hmmmmmmm. All of this sounds so familiar. Almost like we’ve gone over this before…..

  16. Dave D. Says:

    Here’s how it went down:

Talib (screaming): Why’d you slam the brakes, bitch? C’mon G! Keep your slappy, sloppy granny ass in the car. Don’t come out here and look at me.

Woman (on phone with 911): I was hit from behind. I’m fine. The other driver is screaming at me in a mean voice.

Operator: Stay in the car while police arrive.

    Woman: OK.

Talib (screaming): Dumbass granny ho. Know I’m going to be late to Raheem’s. We were gonna sit around with our shirts off on his balcony.

  17. eric Says:

    @thomas

Auto policies don’t cover damages from threatening to shoot someone.

  18. eric Says:

    Niners want Josh Johnson.

    Probly win a SB there.

  19. Kujolw Says:

If it happen in 2008 and now its being brought up shakedown nothing will happen.

  20. thibs5599 Says:

Talib will be a Buc for at least one more season.

  21. Phenom4498 Says:

OH MY Thomas shut up!!! Youre still talking about this, give it up!!!

  22. Have A Nice Day Says:

She didn’t say he was screaming. She said “hollering” and “giving me a hard time”. A definition of holler is also ‘to complain’. If someone is “hollering/complaining” about another person’s role in an accident, I can see the other person saying “giving me a hard time”.

Someone else on here though is clearly trying to change the language and with it the definitions of the words to make is sound as if she said “screaming” and “threatening me”. But that is not what was said.

  23. ALSTOTTSMART! Says:

    Talib will strike (someone) again.

I wonder how many underage arrests he had, before the burglary conviction just before he went off the K-State.

I would bet at least 3.

  24. BucFan20 Says:

Great to see our Paralegal who knows ALL the FACTS is passing judgement again. We couldn’t care less what YOU think Thomass.

  25. Pete 422 Says:

I know “we are what we are” BUT Talib some how has to learn how to become a better person (It has been done). Considering his career is a risk (and maybe his freedom), Talib has to understand he needs to make some changes

  26. stevek Says:

    TRADE TALIB!

  27. Joe Says:

    stevek:

    TRADE TALIB!

Who the hell is going to give up anything to get him?

  28. Capt.Tim Says:

The only sad part of this , is that Taliban does his B.S. in Tampa. Where apparently we have grown a segment of the male population that is slurping Tofu, sipping wine coolers, getting in touch with their “feminine side”( cause their wife’s made them- right before she castrated ya!), and wearing maxi pads!!
If this were to happen in Polk county-
    A) granny would have been trained with her own gun, that she had in her purse.
    B) a real man or two would have stopped, and “assisted” the elder Woman, by telling that trash to shut up
    C) Polk County has the best Sherriff in the USA. He actually believes laws are to protect the Victims- not the criminals. Taliban would have been arrested. Thank God for Grady Judd!

Unfortunately , it seems that Tampa has imported a “San Francisco” type of “male”( I guess male), that just wants to whine and cry and make excuses for every piece of crap on the planet
    “steers” , my guys call’em
Funny breed , Steers! The cry for everyone, until somebody does something to them! Then nobody cries their eyeliner off quicker! They want to know how this could happen to them!!

    Just makes me laugh

  29. Capt.Tim Says:

Pete 422- ” now Talib- listen, it wrong to threaten to kill Grandmothers with guns! ”
    Christ dude!! Really!!
So- you think that’s all it’ll take!
“gee- thanks buddy! I didn’t know! I thought shooting old ladies was cool! Now I understand, and will be a changed man from now on!”

They say if you get yer arm blow off, you will still occasionally “feel” your missing arm

Just wondering- is that true about yer sack, also?

  30. RastaMon Says:

Get out of town AZZ Clown……so we can stop reading about you…

  31. Capt.Tim Says:

We are a better community, better franchise, better ownership, better people, than to be represented by this ass clown( nice one, friend Rastaman!) .

At any and all cost- dump him.

Then I will be proud to see my family cheer for this team. Talib is the only remaining dark cloud, since they dumped Stevens!

There are a few other guys that have made one bad personal choices, but they ate good guys, that made mistakes. They weren’t trying to hurt or threaten people- just partying to hard!

    I can surely forgive that.
Talibans actions don’t warrant forgiveness. They seethe act of violet idiot.
Last step to proving to this community that you are onboard.
Ya gotta take out the trash!

  32. Capt.Tim Says:

“are the actions of a violent Idiot!”

If he was a purple idiot, I’d have no issues at all- although a bright Purple would look horrible in the red jerseys

The violent part is the issue.
    Damn iPhone!! Again!

  33. Pete 422 Says:

@Capt. Tim: I’m disappointed, you have always seemed like the type of guy who has some class.

I didn’t say anybody had to “sit him down,” I said Talib himself has to make the changes.

People like Talib have the attitude that society has the problem & not them. Some serious anger management therapy is obviously in order. When he loses it, he doesn’t see “Granny”or a cabby or anybody. Consequences along with right & wrong become a non factor.

In my post, I never made excuses for him, I merely stated what is at stake, but apparently Talib seems to be the only one who doesn’t know.

Along with some really bad assumptions, & putting “words in my mouth”Your last statement makes no sense (obviously you don’t know me). BTW, It’s spelled “your” not “yer.”

  34. Capt.Tim Says:

Pete 422- “he doesn’t see Granny, or cabbies”
    Whaaa?
What do you think he sees?
And, how the hell do you know what he sees?
And more importantly- who cares what he we’d?
If ya run around slapping cabbies in the head- cause ya think it’s funny,
Or if ya threaten to shoot lil old grandmas,

    You Are. Trash!
And I don’t care what he thinks, or sees.
And he doesn’t deserve to be payed millions of dollars, to embarrass the community like that!
He needs to be released, so that he can move on to his real calling
    “prison inmate”

  35. SensibleBuc Says:

Talib is a sometimes great starter making $1.8 million this year. Everything else is white noise.

    He stays.

  36. Capt.Tim Says:

He sucks! He has already been called out by Schiano for quitting
He is being delayed here, from fulfilling his higher calling!

    Florida state Inmate!

  37. Capt.Tim Says:

Yawn! Steers not put up much of a fight tonight!

  38. Hawaiian Buc Says:

What did I say the other day Captain? Nothing like bringing up Talib to start up a good argument. I’m still so happy from our free agent signings that I’m just not going to get into it.

  39. Pete Dutcher Says:

    “eric Says:
    March 19th, 2012 at 12:00 pm

    Niners want Josh Johnson.”

Now that is weird…I just posted the other day that the 49ers should go after Josh Johnson.

  40. Capt.Tim Says:

Hawiian- lol! Yeah, I’m not diving in to it whole heartedly either. I’m trying to get excited, but just dragging tonight!

    Must be a Monday!

I’m more interested in seeing if the Bucs sign anymore FAs- like a LBer or RB

I’m sick of Taliban getting any press. I hope the NFL warden suspends that guy for the season.

With that much free time, he’ll screw up bad enough to end his sad excuse for a career.

And we will get a decent Cb, that will actually play, and not be an Azz clown!

  41. Hawaiian Buc Says:

We obviously disagree on Talib, in particular on the football field, but I will say this: he isn’t good enough for me to dedicate more energy talking about him. I don’t know if anyone on our team is that good.
