“It Hurts,” Says Roy Miller

August 23rd, 2011

Joe’s no doctor, and Joe didn’t stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. However, Joe’s not reaching when he diagnoses Roy Miller’s knee tear as worrisome.

Before news broke in the St. Pete Times about Miller’s minor MCL tear, Joe overheard Miller talk about the injury after the Patriots game and Miller was really downplaying the seriousness of it. (Miller didn’t know Joe was listening, so Joe didn’t run with it.) Miller wasn’t limping in his street clothes, either.

But now it seeems Miller might be feeling the knee more than he expected, so reports Woody Cummings of The Tampa Tribune.

Miller is unlikely to practice this week or play in the Bucs’ third exhibition game Saturday against the Dolphins, but is hopeful he’ll be back on the field next week for the final preseason game at Washington.

“I’ve been out there running and stuff,” Miller said. “It hurts, (the tear) is at the top of the (MCL) and it’s real painful at the top, but I’ve heard people say you can play (with) it.”

If Miller’s playing, Joe’s not seeing how Miller’s going to get healthy. Can the Bucs’ defensive line play really afford to have Miller lose a little burst? He’s hardly an All-Pro out there.

Joe’s going to keep a watchful eye on Frank Okam on Saturday. It’s almost a given the Bucs will lean on him to start opening day.

Sounds like McCargo may be sticking around a little longer.

    Go Okam!

This is the chance Okam has been waiting for since he came here. Millers guaranteed to miss some games bec of the injury, with price coming back slowly. Okams gonna have to play like a beast I believe hes ready and is gonna do big things this year. I think if okam can shore up our run d i think he can grab a hold of that starting spot because hell give our line a real run stopping presence with the outside rushers we have well be able to get to the qb. If they have to double the massive okam up to make plays and try and get him off the ball that leaves GMC, Bennet, Clayborn one on one.

Please, please, let’s sit our players until they’re healthy (this includes Price).

A tear will plague him all season, and hurts all the time. One of the reasons I respect these guys so much is Miller–and others–will play with it. I agree with the Okam chatter. This is his chance. If GMC really is that improved, and you know Okam will always get doubled…the rookie ends have a chance to shine.

McCoy and Okam and Price (maybe) and ?

I say have Miller get it fixed and stick him on the PUP. Like JOE said, he isn’t an all-pro, they can not afford to have him playing at anything less than 100%.

    okam okam okam

  8. Pete Dutcher Says:

Send the guy in to get it fixed. Otherwise it could get much worse later.

I’m all for Okam, and we could sign a vet for backup until Price comes back.

I like Okam and I know he had a great game against the Chiefs but Millers injury scares me. If we are willing to spend money when we have a huge need what about defensive tackle? Ok so we end up with McCargo? He was so obscure Rah admitted in his news conference he didn’t “follow his career.” How is that anything but a cheap move when you are talking about an area (tackle position and right up the gut) we have lacked since Warren Sapp left us? Now we are going with Roy Miller at 90% or whatever when he got gashed time and time again all last year? If Price cannot come back healthy we are in big trouble once again against the run and yet Dominick could have pulled the trigger on more than a stop gap with McCargo. I like your savviness Dom but its time to bring in some free agents with some sort of pedigree not just fill ins. We need help at defensive tackle, backup running back and number two or three receiver. At least one of those holes need to be filled. Open the wallet for one minute!! Please no more free agents that i never even knew played in the league. I know your a genius but eventually your luck will run outl.

I know the odds are against it, but I think McCargo may develop. He was listed as a 2nd round pick as a DT. But the Bills drafted him in the First round as a De. The played him only at DE, and he never seemed to develop playing in space. He may very well get a “second wind”, being back at his natural position. Hope so. Looks like he’ll be getting playing time.
