“An Area Opponents Are Going To Attack”

August 30th, 2011

Candid Buccaneers radio analyst Dave Moore already has his eye on the Bucs’ linebackers come opening day, so Moore told local broadcast icon Rock Riley, via video on BHSN.com.

Moore says he expects gameplans to test the midde of the field against the Bucs.

“We saw the other night that Quincy Black, who was coming in as a third-down middle linebacker for [Mason] Foster, got beat for a big play up the middle that first series, which the next play led to a touchdown. And I really believe that’s an area opponents are going to attack.”

Moore went on to talk about how teams will try to “take advantage” of Black or Foster’s inexperience in pass coverage in the center of the Tampa 2.

Regarding attacking the linebackers through the air, it’ll be damn interesting to see if the Lions go there early. Though it’s hard for Joe to imagine a team not pounding the ball at the Bucs until they show they can stop the run. Last year, the Bucs turned little-known Lions running back Maurice Morris (15 carries, 109 yards in Tampa) into Mercury Morris for a day.

As for Thursday’s final preseason game in Washington, Moore said he’d like to see the Bucs put the starting offense on the field for a couple of series to establish the running attack, which the Bucs struggled with over the first three games. But don’t count on that happening.

Yes, I would run at the bucs and throw mid-range passes over the middle all day until they show they can handle it.

That said, I think the bucs have to realize it and I expect a cheating Safety to help middle-deep

  2. Chris FWC :) Says:

I know one thing for sure… DON’T RUN AT THE HAM IN THE MIDDLE!

  3. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Hmmm…and I thought we were going away from the Tampa 2 to Rah’s hybrid defense.

  4. WeNeedADefensiveCoordinator Says:

Perhaps we need a better defensive play caller?

It’s not the players stupid… it’s the DC.

Dave Moore is thinking that teams will attack our Linebackers? And Quincy gave up a big play? And our O-Line can’t Run block( or pass block? Wow! Who knew??

Dave Moore is a smart guy. But alot of people have been saying that for a while! The LBers were a train wreck last year, and now are even worse. Nothing against Mason Foster, who has shown to be a physical presence against the Run. But he’s lost in Pass coverage, and I think it will always be his weakness. Black and Hayes were just bad last year. Hayes looks better do far, black looks like a player off the field- doesn’t play like one one the field

Faine, Joseph , and Trueblood have NEVER got it done. Major underachievers. Larsen looked good last year- serious sophomore slump this year.

But we already knew this! This young team is so talented at sooo many positions, it just blows me away that these two areas- both major weak spots last year, are both probably worse this year! I am so optimistic on what the young talent can accomplish- but offense starts with the O- line, and ours is not good! And everyone worries about stopping the run- that’s what LBers DO! Yet ours never seem to be mentioned, as RB after RB blows past ours.

I know you don’t build Rome in a day, but I would have liked to see some kind of improvement of these weak spots. Freeman can’t scramble to safety every passing play. Blount can’t keep creating his own holes every single play.
There are 5 O- linemenplus the TE, on a running play, Vs. 4 D-linemen. If the D-line ties up the O-line- mission accomplished! The linebackes are supPosed to track down the RB like hungry wolves. If they don’t( like last year) you get long runs!

I still believe this team has enough talent to win! But we are making alot harder than it should have been. Still a fan, still drinking the Koolaide, just a lil pissed we didn’t adress these known problem areas.

Ok Raheem and Dominick- prove me wrong and make me look bad- I’ll be happy to see it, if the O-Line and LBers play well this year. I’ll be happy to look bad, and be a less opinionated fan from now on! Promise!

im still more concerned about our safety’s play… more than the linebacker corp..sean jones got beat twice in the pre season one for td…cody still not fast enough to cover the deep ball… u seen that on that brandon marshall play…he made one cut and cody couldn’t get to him…but cody grimm does play well in the box stepping up stopping the run…..cody has great instincts to make up for lack of speed but i still havent seen him stop a deep ball yet…..sean jones doesnt stop the run sean jones barely make plays…he played all year on defense with one splash play at the sefety spot……T-jax haven’t played in over a year…corey lynch is a special teams player at best….larry assante lacks experience…….Ahmad black is hurt and probably wont make the team but will most likely be picked up on the practice squad…..The last two years we gave up the most big plays…..that is still our area of concern…….quincy black will be fine and so will mason foster…..they can throw accross the middle if they want to…u see what happened to ocho cinco…..

How many times must you repeat yourself? Just because you change around the words doesn’t make the point any different. We got it, you don’t think he’s a good DC. Okay, point taken. Now move on.

  8. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    Capt. Tim,

Not calling you a hater, but I wish the haters on this team (cough cough Thomas, Eric) took the same approach as you. Neither of them have ever said “I hope I’m wrong” because neither wish to be wrong. I appreciate how you can express your displeasure, yet still remain a fan of the team and wish for their success. You definitely bring up valid concerns, but like you said, I hope you look foolish at the end of the year, lol.

  9. Macabee Says:

You see Capt. Tim, The zombies have mad love for you. lol. Me too. One doesn’t have to always agree with your rationale, but your thoughts are always rational. We need different, but constructive opinion.

  10. gotbbucs Says:

capt. tim, i completely share your thoughts about this o-line. our recievers are really going to have to be able to stretch the field to take the pressure off of blount this year.

  11. Jon L. Says:

Bucs need to definitely improve their defense before the season, but hey…it’s only preseason.

  12. Capt.Tim Says:

Thanks Guys! Believe me, I ALWAYS want the team to win! As a kid, I sat in the the big Sombero with my Dad, then later my friends- and watched some great players fight hard to win , on terrible teams! And always I hoped! I the ( wretched) Culverhouse years, you knew the team wasn’t given a fair chance to win. Still, many great players played their hearts out trying to overcome insurmountable odds. While sad, there was a cetain nobility in watching James Wilder, Paul Gruber, Ervin Randall, and many others fight the good fight every week. I actually think those men taught me a valuable life lesson back then. Always, Always I hoped.

It’s different now. This team has won. It’s was given the advantages to win. Right now, it is built to begin winning again, except for a couple of areas. In a way, that’s just as frustrating as back then!
But believe me, I’m still hoping !!

  13. Garv Says:

I think it’s pretty obvious that having a rookie MLB makes him a bit of a target. This is not big news and it’s up to the ENTIRE DEFENSE to play well.
That will cover for Foster until he catches up.
Considering he’s a rookie with no, NONE, off-season….? Is this really news?

  14. Patrick Says:

    @Capt. Tim

I agree man, it shouldn’t have to be this hard. Honestly, I don’t really feel we got better this offseason. Our offense got a little worse with Cadillac leaving and the fact that we don’t have anyone to complement Blount. And yes, I know we got Bowers and Clayborn, but we all know that rookie D lineman don’t do shit their rookie years. Our D line will be a little better next year, but I still think it’ll be in the bottom half of the league for sure. Plus Bowers knee is was a big question mark prior to the draft and it still is.

As for our linebacker corps, I totally agree with you. Maybe Foster will turn out to be a good LB, but we’ll be lucky if can even come close to Ruud’s production THIS year. Black and Hayes are OK, but they nothing great. They’re talented, but inconsistent. Here’s a question for ya’ll: Do you ever see Black and Hayes going to a pro bowl? The Bucs should’ve been more aggressive with the roster and brought in some free agents. And no, I don’t want hear about how “bad” and wrong free agency is. A good player is a good player. There were free agents who definitely would’ve been an upgrade to what we have and who fit the plan. We also need more experience. There’s a huge overload of kids on the roster.

As far as this year goes, I don’t think our team is any better. Guys, I’ll be frank with you, the Bucs were not THAT good of a team last year. They were good, don’t get me wrong, but they were nothing great. You can’t deny the fact that the easy schedule was a big reason for going 10-6. We couldn’t beat a good team until the Saints in week 17.

With the team not much improved and a much tougher schedule, I don’t feel that great about the Bucs chances this year. Do you really think that they can match to teams like the Colts? Teams of that caliber? If they win 9 or 10 games with the team they have and the season schedule, then I’ll be really impressed. However, don’t be surprised if they finish 7-9 or 8-8 this season.

Looking forward for these meaningless games to be over. Here is a meaningless stat looking at opening day. Preseason sacks—- Detroit (3) Tampa Bay (14). The funny things is all I hear all day long on BSPN about Suh and the Lions. We might have something for Stafford. GO BUCS!!!!

  18. SRQBucFan Says:

I still think it’s nice to see. in preseason alone (3games) we are only like 7 shy of sack total we had all of last year.

On a positive note. I think E.J. Biggers is doing well for him self. Brandon Marshall is one hell of a Receiver, who specializes in Yards after the catch. And besides 2 plays (one of which he made up for with a fumble) Marshal was quiet in the game. Meaning Biggers was on him more then not. And on the one BIG play Marshall had. Biggers was right there and had his hand in the basket. Marshall is just that good of a receiver to make the play. I don’t honestly think Talib would have done much better. I’ve seen Talib get burned because he gambles ALOT.

  19. SRQBucFan Says:

In the end i am just saying i think Biggers is going to be a very nice compliment to Talib when ever barber is done playing. What we really need is a very good 3rd. I have high hopes for Gaitor. Simply because he reminds me alot of Barber in his early years. To small and not super fast, But makes up for it with heart and effort.

I also agree Safety is a weak spot. I really hope T Jax can get back on the team and stay clean. Or hope to god Asante keeps making plays and taking over. I really was rooting for Amhad Black becoming a mini TJax for us. But with his quiet preseason and training camp/injury. I am a bit worried about him even making the team now.

We will soon see where Tampa is at, as far as building a team goes, on opening day.
I hope our O Line plays better then they have in preseason ? Blount has not even seen a hole to run through so far. After a 10 win season, Tampa changed the O Line Coach, and this may come back to bite us. I sure hope not.

The way our Rb situation looks. It looks to me like tiki barbers services could be needed o know he sat out a while but I’m sure he would be better than lumpkin and lorig.
