Davin Joseph Still Waiting

July 27th, 2011

Bucs stud right guard Davin Joseph wants to stay in Tampa Bay. That much is evident. But in recent hours, Joe is beginning to wonder whether the free agent will be wearing pewter and red this fall.

First, there was the flirtation with Dallass tackle Doug Free, who Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik got into a bidding war — if reports are to be believed — for yesterday before Jerry Jones won out and Free stayed in Dallass.

(Clarification: Joe has many new readers, as he can tell by recent traffic. Joe was in Dallas, the city, last February for Super Bowl media day and aside from freezing his arse off and scraping ice, Joe thought Dallas was a nice town. Now Dallass, as in the Cowboys, that’s another matter.)

Now there was this eyebrow-raising Twitter from Joseph himself just a short time ago.

@DavinJoseph75 I am still waiting on a contract offer from Tampa. The earliest I can sign a contract is on Friday. … My agent, Ben Dogra, is having talks with other teams but I don’t know about any offers yet. I’m just waiting like everyone else.

Joe is beginning to wonder if Dominik even wants Joseph back? Is Dominik thinking of saving some cash and putting Jeremy Zuttah at right guard? The few times Zuttah has played right guard, when Joseph has been injured, Zuttah has played admirably.

As Joseph wrote, the earliest he can sign a contract is Friday. Perhaps Dominik, in this hectic week, is just concentrating on other priorities knowing he doesn’t have to offer Joseph a deal for another two days?

Wow, the Bucs have built their team on the cheap for the last 2 and a half years, yet it sounds like Dominick might still be trying to “save” money. We need Joseph, Ruud, and all our other free agents back!!

i believe he’ll be offered. Dom said in his p.c. that he wants Davin “standing right here next to him” (at the podium). i dont think they let him go.

since we now know that Dom was going after doug free from dallas, but re-signed (agreed) with the boys, does the attention now turn to clabo? its pretty obvious dom wants a right tackle. taking a very good right tackle away from your division rival and adding him to your own squad seems to make a lot of sense to me. hope they do.

and also, do you think that doug free is definitely out of the picture? he agreed to terms with dallas but that doesnt necessarily mean its over. what if the bucs were to come back with a higher offer that dallas cant (wont) match? i wouldnt be surprised if some of these players that agreed to contracts arent still listening to other offers. it would be stupid not to. nothing is certain until the dotted line is signed. im not saying it will happen a lot, or even at all. but i am saying i wouldnt be surprised if it happens. negotiating doesnt stop just because a player has supposedly agreed to terms with a team. friday at 6:00 p.m. will tell the real stories.

The Bucs just posted an excellent video about Blount on there website. I can’t wait to see what he does this year.

As for Davin, I trust we will get the best available guard out there. Too bad we lost on the Free signing.

  4. Patrick Says:

That’s another question, how did Dallas re-sign Doug Free? I thought teams can’t re-sign or sign other players until Friday. The earliest Davin can sign a contract is Friday so I don’t understand.

DJ would just shop the offer right now to the other 4 teams .. I trust DOminik has a better understanding of this process than us.

  6. Tampa2 Says:

[Tampa2: Come on man, not only is this not related to the subject at hand, not only is this not a Bucs item, it’s not even football related. Worse: it’s months old. If you want Joe to read something unrelated to this site, feel free to email Joe. Hey, Joe appreciates you thinking of him but at least put this in “Morning Cup of Joe” thread. — Joe.]

    read my above post

@jvato – agreed! remember guys, “we’ve only just begun…………to Liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive” lol

  9. Mauha Deeb Says:

@Tampa2 Come on man! You know that is fake, right?

Joseph will be back(I am on the fence about his worth for the money he is about to accrue). Dominic will flash that big money if and when it is necessary.

Joe, I’m not sure this is an accurate opinion. If you go to Joseph’s twitter page and scroll down a few tweets, you’ll see this: http://twitter.com/#!/DavinJoseph75/status/96063880136101888.

“Tomorrow is the big dinner with Dominik and Morris. I’ll keep y’all posted.” which was written yesterday.

Dominik’s taking his players out to dinner, remember?

  11. Dave Says:

My guess is other priorities since Davin can’t sign until Friday.

Getting the rookies signed and going after other players that can be signed (like he did with Free) seem to be the sensible thing to do.

My guess is Joseph gets a contract offer from the Bucs by tomorrow sometime at the latest.

  12. Joe Says:

    Patrick:

    “Agreed to terms.”

  13. Brandon Says:

I hear Dom is diligently trying to re-sign Quincy Black though. I remember just a short time ago I got blasted by many on these forums of my belief of Black’s good performance at LB and how he should be re-signed and Ruud shouldn’t be. Looks like this will be going in the direction I always assumed it should.

Letting Joseph walk would be an awful, awful decision.
