Kevin Carter says bring back Talib

Everybody has an opinion on Aqib Talib. And from Joe’s research and polling data — how Zogby of Joe — public opinion of Talib is improving.

This week JoeBucsFan.com readers were polled and 22.5 percent said the Bucs should ditch Talib before the 2011 season. The exact same poll following Talib’s arrest in late March saw 33 percent say the Bucs should dump him before the season.

Joe’s not surprised Talib is winning the public opinion battleground. When you’re defending family from sleaze, people have a way of understanding, even if you’re out of control.

Speaking today on The King David Show with Shaun King and guest co-host Anwar Richardson of TBO.com on 1010 AM, former Bucs defensive lineman and very smooth-talker Kevin Carter weighed in on Talib.

Carter said Talib was a model teammate in Tampa Bay when it came to dedication to his craft.

“I’d see him and it was always, Hi, Mr. Carter. He was respectful,'” said Carter, adding that Talib put in long hours at One Buc Place. “He worked his butt off.”

Carter said the Bucs have invested so much in Talib they should keep him and “take your chances that he’ll grow up.”

Again, Joe just can’t believe the Bucs are going to cast aside Talib like Derrick Brooks a bug-infested sandwich, as the St. Pete Times told its readers Sunday. Surely, the Bucs will take what they can get in return, if they wash their hands of Talib at all.

Can we just wait and see what happens with Talib before cutting him? We need to be really careful, cause this is our star defensive player we’re talking about. The guy may have just been simply defending his family. Or maybe he is a piece of **** lowlife and just shot at a guy for no reason. Or he might not have touched a gun at all!! We don’t know! So let’s wait. He could be completely innocent for all we know.

  2. Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

Keep Talib in Tampa! Anyone who has ever had the misfortune to take a Cab in Tampa know sometimes, heads need to be smacked.

  3. Hunter Says:

I say give Talib 1 MORE CHANCE. This incident may be the defining moment in the life of Aqib Talib. We’ve invested a lot in him, and what good is it going to do for anyone if he’s released, besides the team that gets him?????????? If we are a family like we like to say, then let’s follow that. Families go through rough moments, and we have to be there for one another. We don’t just kick our own family down in times of trouble. We stand up for them, and when the lockout is over, the WHOLE TEAM needs to deliver this message to Talib and let him know that we need him to succeed and for him to get his head straight.

PLEASE DOMINIK…….DO NOT GET RID OF AQIB TALIB.

  4. Matthew levanduski Says:

Awesome reply Hunter, ever since the incident happened I have been defending Talib as much as anyone, it is finally nice to see others are starting to share the sentiment. Seriously the schedule of receivers we have this year, we need Talib. Talib probably dogged on scrubs that didn’t perform (Chris Hovan), as Hovan is the only player I have ever heard of mentioning Talib in such a negative light. Now that noone wants Hovan on their team, this is the only way he can get attention.

  5. Patrick Says:

Joe, you said that we were 4-1 last year without Talib. What games were those?

  6. Tom Says:

While we are at it can we bring back Kevin Carter too?

A 50 year old Kevin Carter is better than a 25 year old Kyle Moore any day. You might even get a sack out of him, which we sadly cannot say about the 4th round bust.

  7. Joe Says:

    Patrick:

What, the Bucs were supposed to forfeit those wins since the great Talib wasn’t in the game?

Or perhaps the Cincinnati win should be given back too since that was a fluke?

Just pointing out the team never collapsed without Talib. People think this guy is the greatest since sliced bread yet he has never been in a Pro Bowl. Just pointing out the franchise will not collapse without him.

As Raheem says, “Next man up.”

Besides, if the Bucs decide to keep him, Talib will be missing quite a few games this season healthy or not.

  8. Hunter Says:

@ Joe: We can afford him missing a few games, just not the whole season. And if the Pro Bowl was voted by only the players, he would’ve gone the past 2 seasons…

  9. Patrick Says:

Joe, I just asked you what games they were.

“Or perhaps the Cincinnati win should be given back too since that was a fluke?”

I never said the Cincinnati game was a fluke. Talib played in that game btw.

“People think this guy is the greatest since sliced bread yet he has never been in a Pro Bowl.”

No one said that he’s the greatest since sliced bread, but he’s a pretty damn good player. He’s had what…..like 5+ INT’s every year since 2008?

As for the part about saying he hasn’t been to the pro bowl, that’s not fair. The reason he hasn’t been to the pro bowl is because he plays for the Bucs. Like many other present and past players here. No one gives us any attention. Talib and Jackson are two players on our defense that have deserved to go to the pro bowl at least once already.

Wow!!! An intelligent thought, huge investment, dump it(him) or reap the benifits of your investement. What a concept!!! This is a business(NFL/Bucs), there business grows by WINNING FOOTBALL GAMES. Amazed by the “intelligence’ of most “Buc fans”. Talib is an asset, Tanard is an asset, you DO NOT GIVE AWAY assets without a ROI, or a “return on investment”.

  11. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I think this may be a critical detail as to whether or not we keep Talib. By all accounts, he is an incredibly hard worker, which means he will most likely continue to get better (as he has done every year of his career). It’s a whole lot easier to get rid of a “thug” if he is lazy. However, if he is a hard worker, that can in fact improve the rest of the team, as most teams tend to mimic the work ethic of their best players. Talib pushes the rest of the players around him, in particular our young WR’s. That’s a good thing.

  12. admin Says:

    Joe here

@Patrick – Bucs were without Talib against Cleveland, Washington, Detroit, Seattle and New Orleans — 4-1.

  13. PWNASAURUS Says:

How about that Detroit loss where Megatron single handedly kept the Bucs OUT of the playoffs. If the Bucs have Talib to cover Megatron, Bucs Prob win that game easy.

  14. BamBamBuc Says:

Yep, it was all Megatron that kept us out of the playoffs. Had nothing to do with the offensive pass interference call on Winslow in the end zone that the NFL actually called the team the next day and apologized for. Seriously, if that call had been accurate, we could have been 5-0 without Talib.

And for those talking about the WRs we’ll be facing this year and how we NEED Talib to cover these guys… if he’s suspended for just 4 games, we WON’T have Talib against Calvin Johnson, Sydney Rice/Percy Harvin, Roddy White, or Reggie Wayne and the Colts. If they suspend him for 6 games this year, you can add Crabtree and one of the Saints games (and Drew Brees) in there as well. So the argument that we need to keep him to cover those guys is meaningless unless he somehow slips past getting a suspension (unlike Ben Rothlisberger/charges dropped, PacMan Jones/never convicted, always near gunfire, etc.)

  15. HIRE GREG OLSON! Says:

    @BamBamBuc,

So since Talib will miss 4-6 games, it’s better not to have him at all?

    /faulty logic

All of the information regarding the latest problem is not in. Furthermore, I believe that the necessary information to project guilt will no be for some time. Before we tar and feather the man we should wait until the information is in. Before i would cast him aside I would have him meet with a psychologist to evaluate how he is likely to react to situations in the future.
